Thread seems kinda slow. But I'm gonna post here anyway, since it seems like the most relevant place for this,
Mrs. qg (the little lady) is a big fan of Ego style batteries. She likes the size and weight (Vision Spinner 2 1600mAh for example), and has settled on Anyvape Davide glassomizers as her favorite tank. I like those because they are so dismantleable, making them a piece of cake to clean.
The Davides started out using the Kanger/Evod Protank coil, and then developed a model which would also use Aspire BVC and BDC coils, but would convert back to the K/E Ps. The Aspires didn't work out very well (at least not for us). Replacement coils were often unusable (nasty, burny taste. Wouldn't go away. Acrid to the point of throat stripping.) Also, they are too much trouble to try and rebuild. All of our Davides are now running the K/E Ps.
I can, however, rebuild the Kanger/Evod Protank coils, and rebuild them so that they are better than new. Also with more dependable quality. 6 turns of 30ga. Kanthal on a 1.5mm core, with organic cotton. Comes out at ~1.5 ohms. Vapes great.
This is the lowest resistance I trust running Ego stye batteries at, not to mention that they balk at anything much lower, whether I wanted to or not.
Might need to add she isn't looking to chase clouds, we both vape for flavor. My own preferred rig is a Pioneer4You iPV5 with an Augvape (Thanks, Roxie!) Merlin. Even though I can bump that puppy up to 200 watts and run coils so low it needs extra decimal points I keep a 0.80 ohm coil (7 turns of Kanthal on a 3.0mm core) at around a measly 13 watts. Lower resistance just doesn't give the same flavor. (Neither does fancier wire. I've tried Clapton etc., and they don't seem to make much difference aside from tasting burny more quickly.) I don't need clouds and this seems to max out the flavor.
Which finally gets around to my question. Are there any Ego style batteries out there which are rated/designed for lower resistances. I'm not looking for super sub-ohm, but. down to 1.0 ohm would be nice (0.5 would be better but I'm not going to ask for the Moon.). I'd like to run RBA's with coils in that range for her and she doesn't really like box mods because of the size.
I can rebuild the K/E Ps to lower resistances if I had batteries that would take them. I've done it and put them in the Davides, and tried them out on box mods which can handle the resistance, and it works great. A 1.0 build on a K/E P coil in a Davide makes a really nice vape.
I have gotten little whiffs of possibilities, like the Vision Spinner Plus, but when I go to try and find one actually for sale I strike out.
Has progress on the Ego style batteries just stopped, now that so much of the vaping world has gone to heavily sub-ohm box mods?
