Well, there isn't anything we can do until the China holiday is over on the 7th. I think we've all got enough pm's in to her that she can't ignore it.
I really do not want a Gear Best gift card- No more surprise shipping fee for me!

If you let them take their time and do China or Netherlands post, you'll be fine. It's just when you request that they process your order/item faster or for example this contest. She wanted to be sure we received them in due time. Sending them FedEx was a mistake. I'm not making excuses for June, but that's the only reasoning I have for what happened. I just put in a fairly large order with them.

Speaking of GB, I want to order 3 sets of batteries. They wouldn't let me include them with any other item so I paid for everything else in 2 transactions. When I went to check out the batteries they wanted me to pay $27 for shipping of $24 worth of batteries. Safer to stick with US for batteries. Jeesh!

She wanted winners to receive their prizes quickly hoping they would post pics/reviews of their loot ASAP.

They just introduced some crazy battery shipping option through some terror supporting country's crap-hole airline (UAE or something like that). The pricing is out to lunch. Hope they sort out battery shipping methods soon.

OK so a manager finally called me back and seemed to know what she was talking about. It's a fed ex fee for basically doing paperwork for the FDA, so the money does go into Fed Ex's pockets.

That's what I thought. Thanks for following up and reporting back, Sir Richard. Good to know ... we can eliminate FedEx as a carrier!

I received my $21.00 credit but PayPal took over $1.00 out of it. We're a few cents short, but she meant well. I'm fine with that. Thanks June!

So usps only? Cause only a federal agency would be lazy enough to not enforce regulations from another government agency lol

Probably more like they still fill out the paperwork but they don't charge for it b/c the USPS is a much MUCH larger operation that deals with all kinds of paperwork for a plethora of different types of shipments, so having this paperwork to process isn't going to stand out as easily. USPS workers would take it in stride.... whereas FedEx workers would likely complain to mngmt that they have this "new stuff to fill out" and .... so it comes to Admin's attn and they decide to make money off it by charging a fee. May be a little off, but that's my guess. Private carriers will be more likely to charge, federal carriers more likely to see it as part of the job.

There was a post on Reddit a few days ago about someone winning a Estoc tank thru Heavens Gifts- seemed like everyone that got their prize, but him and tracked his prize and it was being held up by DHL- I wrote to him an told him of the Prize we won thru GearBest, shipped by FedEx, only to get a bill 10 days later yadda yadda, but to be careful of this FDA Admin charge! He writes back a day later and sure enough- DHL would only release the package for $32.00 fee. He thanked me, I told him to contact the contest host- and he was going to refuse the "free Prize". He told me he would let me know what Heavens Gifts were going to do about this mess. Seems like at least 9 people got their prize no problems, but him. Don't know if it is random, China only, Fed Ex and DHL ? I receive orders all the time from USPS and have only used US vendors, I have never had a problem until my China, Fed EX win here!
I just wonder how long before this happens to everyone, since these are considered tobacco products? I know in NY where I live- Face to Face sales only of tobacco products, I used to be able to get cartons of smokes shipped to me and then these face to face sales laws went into effect- no more shipped cartons!

It is my understanding that FedEx charges, period. DHL is random but it also depends on the size of the parcel and what items are listed on the custom's label.

However, I received this USPS/EMS China Post, white padded envelope which FastTech and GearBest are infamous for, that was opened and checked. GearBest has already updated their Terms & Conditions stating that once it leaves their facility any fees are the burden of the buyer.

I was in a conversation with Mods and Admin about this. They agreed that the vendor should post something if there will be charges associated by transport and how/what the vendor intended to do about it. I'll see if I can find out anything more.

You will not, it is in our hands now, if the other members have issues that is up to THEM to contact vendors and staff if needed, your issues were dealt with and addressed, other member issues are theirs to look into , not yours.

You made yourself perfectly clear in your very strong worded PM yesterday. I feel another reminder in this public OP thread at 3:22am as a reminder truly was not necessary. Unless you feel public humiliation will make you feel better. I fully understood your PM far before you wrote this one. If you have an issue with me trying to assist members in a situation that "I" am also involved in, I should be able to speak up about how I feel about it.

Should you have an issue with 'what' I say or 'how' I say it, please, PM me. Thank you.

Small update on my Winning/Refused Item...

Friday, in the mail was a bill from FedEx...$20.42... I called them...the gal was nice on the other end...gave them the invoice number...Asked her if she could explain the bill...She said it was a tax for the shipment I received from China... I told her, I didn't receive the item...she then responded, I see, you refused it...I continued, Yes, I was aware before the item arrived that FedEx was charging people for items shipped in regards to the change in FDA regs, I was just curious since this is a tax, what percentage taxation is that? Since the item I was to get was only $16 to be charged $20.42...there was a pause, and I chimed in...greed tax I am sure...she laughed it off and said, the charge has been removed.

lol

Greedy fucks I swear.

LOL! Nice job. Too bad you didn't get your prize though. If you've contacted the vendor perhaps they will figure out a way to get it to you without a fee and/or reimburse you if resent?

Kind of curious - Does anyone know what (if any) kind of action/repercussion can occur if someone doesn't pay this tax?

If this is what your asking

Accept the item and refuse to pay = Collection Agency after your ass!

Possible. But also comes down to a question of 'At the time of delivery/acceptance, did they make notification of the additional fee/tax?'
Think of it like making a purchase at Walmart (for any item) and then a few days later they send you a bill saying you have to pay this additional tax or the thingy you bought.
Bad enough that they're throwing this tax at it but to wait until after delivery to hit you with it is wrong - needs to be up front at delivery time.
