Energizing VS lethargic E-Juicethis

Hey everyone,

I've recently gotten into making my own E-Juice and I was wondering if anyone had information on e-liquids that make you energized VS e-liquids that knock you out.

I'm assuming that the amount of nicotine, type of flavoring, and other non-base ingredients can cause someone to feel really awake or really tired. I'm trying to make an e-juice that can provide some energy to the vapor.

If you guys have any suggestions on additives or any information on this, please help me out.

Thank you!

Nicotine is a stimulant. Flavors are just flavors. I've heard of people adding caffeine or Guarana to liquid but I've never heard of it having any discernable effect.

As OBDave says, the only thing that will make a difference is the amount of nicotine you use!

OK, background. I was a licensed chemical forensic analyst (aka I can run a breathylizer and testify in court on it as an expert witness). My base knowledge stems from learning about alcohol metabolism and dosage but there are parallels.

Nicotine doesn't really work that way aside from how the dose is administered. In how the dose is administered is what affects the perception of relaxation or stimulation. A quick high dose tends to relax the brain (deep drags off a cigarette vs short puffs) where as a long slow dose tends to stimulate. Because of the nature of vapor (the size of droplets of vapor is substantially larger than smoke particles from a cigarette) the nicotine takes longer to reach the brain and the dose "peaks" lower. Also there are other chemicals in tobacco smoke that act like MAOI's and affect serotonin uptake in the brain that are absent in vape, unless you are into WTA (whole tobacco alkaloyd).

This entire process is adjusted by the user via the amount and timeing of how the person vapes. Smokers and vapers "self titrate" their nicotine levels. Vape too much, feel slightly nic sick, vape less. Body metabolizes nicotine. . . feeling goes away.

With cigarettes if you want to "relax", take lots of big deep mouth to lung hits. Want to perk up, take short frequent mouth to lung drags... alot of the "relaxing" perception is just the feedback of the addiction mechanism of nicotine too. No nic, get grouchy. Get nic, get less grouchy.

Whole thing works differently with vape due to speed of uptake etc due to droplet size and % of nic levels etc. Nic hit in vaping mimics smokeless tobacco (Skoal/snuss/Copenhagen etc.) uptake.

More on nic in link below.

The other ingredients (flavoring, PG & VG) don't work that way at all as they are aromatic molecules in the case of flavors or a simple sugar alcohol in the case of VG. PG is a very simple molecule as well.

I heard of a place called DrGoodwins.com (I think that's it) that's supposed to be making them, but the website doesn't show anything yet.

Heh - I read this with a totally different viewpoint. To me, some flavors are energizing (brisk mints, crisp citrus) and some are relaxing (warm vanilla, many bakery-type mixes).

That's how I read it as well, although I found Tcar's post both interesting and informative! Thanks for that, seriously. In my opinion one of the best "energizing" or "pick me up" flavors I've made is Mt Baker's Candy Cane.

I have a mix of INW Natural Mint, Menthol, & Koolada I call "Icy Death" for stuffed up nose time. It's certainly "invigorating". . . I find Violet Candy to be a relaxing mellow sort of vape as well as Lavender. Both of them are very strong florals and will take over a mix in a heartbeat.
