Evic VT getting hot

So I've had my Evic VT for a few weeks now and last week I got a Velocity RDA. I know this dripper is known for getting hot, but it's making my mod pretty warm... not too hot to hold, mind you, but it's making me nervous.

I got a Herakles today and maybe 5 hits in 15 minutes is making it hot too. I'm only running it at 350-380 with the Herakles.

Anyone else experiencing this??

Had my evic about 3-4 weeks and never noticed it getting hot at all, but my topper isn't getting hot either though, I guess if your topper is getting really hot, then the heat could be transferring over to it, but is just the top of the evic getting hot or the whole thing?

I just can't seem to dial in a great vape from this thing. It's getting really frustrating.

That's strange, mine has been awesome in kanthal mode and this weekend did my 1st nickel build and been using it Ni mode for 2 days with no problems, but have heard of others having problems with the TC on it, guess I must be lucky lol

I'm just trying to figure out if I have a defective mod. It says in the manual that if the mod gets hotter than 70 C, it will automatically shut off. With the lipos in there, the heat just makes me nervous

Definitely less warm at the bottom. I was already thinking I might need a Heat sink adapter, but the Herakles has the fins already... I'll give my Derringer a shot and see what happens

Yup, the top of the mod is getting really warm. This whole thing is really odd.

It don't recall it doing this a few weeks ago, but to get a decently warm vape, even with the airflow closed quite a bit on my RDAs, I need tone up near 470-500 degrees.

I saw Phil Busardo's video on the VT and he said that in temp control mode, that set at 500 degrees, the mod only got the coils up to 400.

What ohm build are you running on it?

I got a 0.09ohm nickel build on mine now, running 450F @ 30 watts with my subtank, and got a warmish vape, but no heat at all from the mod itself.

I did a twisted kanthal/nickel build on the Velocity that ohms out to .09. I ran that at 480 with a limit of 45 watts.

The Herakles is a .2 nickel coil and I was running that at 350 at a limit of 35 watts.

That doesn't sound excessive, might want to contact the vendor you got it from, as your the 1st I heard of saying the mod itself getting warm.

get it hot as fuck and go to the hardware store and use a temp gun and see what temp the mod itself is at... ive seen a few come back to the shop but theyre all from nervous drippers and tbh as long as its not like too hot to touch its allright... i had a t8 that used to get hot but it wasn't too big of a problem

I just my Herakles at .18 after it sat unattached for two hours. It read a 2.5 when I installed it fresh out of the package. Now I'm worried.

well i mean its pretty normal for a device to read a half a point ohm off in either direction... try putting it on a reader.. could be the coil too.

I subohm all the time on my Sig100 at .2 and my mod never got this warm. But thanks for the helpful comment.

bahahahaha funny guy....maybe try .5 and go again. Lots of people using their evic no problem. . but you do what you want..maybe your coil is messed up, maybe your mod is busted, or maybe its you...but now that you finally gave up this valuable info...me thinks you trying to go too low...what do i know I have only wrapped a few dozen coils on this and had it for a bit longer then you have. Take it for what its worth...or not...funny guy

It's .2 with a nickel coil in temp control mode. You actually missed the "valuable info." I would go .5 if I was using kanthal in VW mode. Have you tried to build a .5 ohm coil with nickel? Good luck.

If you were actually trying to help you'd read the whole thread, troll.

Using a 0.09ohm nickel build and mine is getting warm at all, just sayin I don't think his is low at all for a nickel coil.

There is no other Ni200 coil for the Herakles. The ohm reading here is irrelevant... the Evic VT is DESIGNED to use nickel coils down to .06 in temp control.

It uses the base reading of room temp nickel coil to read the increase in resistance as power is put through it. As resistance rises in a nickel coil, the temperature rises at a similar rate. That's how it knows the temp of the coil. DNA40 chips work the same way.

0.2 NI or Ti is fine for this mod and works perfectly. Pretty impossible to build it higher in Ni unless you have a huge deck - and in any event the mod works fine with .05 ohm coils (Ni of course).

It shouldn't get hot. I've chain vaped mine (and by that I don't mean a few hits an hour) and it's not hot. I do have the little cover on it, so I wouldn't feel it as much, but keep an eye on it. If you bought it in the US it'll be easier to exchange I would think.

Just a thought - did you try a different coil? (Sorry if you already said this). I know this is a premade, but the VT is pretty sensitive to good builds, and maybe it's a bad coil?

It could be, but I'll have to give it a shot in VW mode because I only had the Ni coil it came with.

I also try my Velocity RDA which has a rock solid twisted kanthal/ nickel build and got the same results. Same with my Derringer.

I'll try something in VW mode and see if it does the same thing.

Doesn't sound too promising...where did you buy it?

I just tested mine with a Ti 26 gauge build at 0.26 in a subtank RBA. 5 hits in a few minutes - not even warm. (at 520F and 40 watts). Not even the subtank is warm.

I got it at Eciggity. I've already emailed them about it. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate getting someone else's perspective.

Does your Subtank get hot??

Only with Kanthal, but not with Ni or TI. Probably because I can't tootie puff in those modes, so I actually have to take lung hits and put it down (for at least a few minutes) LOL I don't use metal drip tips, because they can get burning hot the way I vape.

From what I've heard Eciggity will take care of you.

My Herakles is getting pretty damn hot. I'm running it at about 420.

I've heard good things about Eciggity's customer service, so I'm hopeful. Glad I didn't buy at GearBest like I planned on originally!

Thanks for advice, but based on my contact with Eciggity, it's the mod that's the issue. Good looking out, but even with the nickel coils in my Herakles the Evic was still getting too hot.

That all being said, I've been rebuilding for quite some time and have a pretty good idea of what I'm doing. But again, good looking out regardless.

The thing that would make me most nervous, is that in the event of serious heat issues, you can not rip out the batteries. My thought is that since the VT is so small, and I would guess that the batteries take up most of the internal space, there is not enough space to dissipate heat. Devices like the Sigelei's and IPV's have bigger boxes with more area to soak up the heat from the RDA.

I'm pretty well convinced that mine was defective. Although, the manual says the Evic will shut down if the temp of the mod gets to 70C. Just seems like that's way too hot for a mod with lipo's to run.

Also, if you turn the Evic off and click the fire button 10 times, it will display the temp of the mod. Cool feature.

Mine gets pretty hot using the Smok TCT but it's heat transfer from the tank base to the metal housing of the mod. It's not scorching or anything but I run out to the car to chain vape when I work. Corporate "smoking and nicotine free workplace" bullshit. I cloud the car out for 10 or so minutes and it's noticeably warm but dissipates quickly.

Glad to hear you're being taken care of. I have a lot of gear like most of us here but I LOVE the Evic. The features at the price point are really great. Best on the go setup imo. I've also been happy at how the finish has been holding up with daily use.

It took about three weeks from my ordering with GB to getting my refund. Had to go with a Paypal dispute to get them to even to respond. Never again for me as well. ESPECIALLY when it was advertised as being "In Stock"

My replacement from Eciggity was mailed today. It can't come soon enough. I absolutely love this mod as well!
