Ordered these from eBay, they look legit except the battery rap has started rip slightly (very small but fear will get worse. Also some of the battery serial codes are the same? Contacted seller he is willing to give me 2 new ones but the red flags are he listed them as "genuine LG".

Are the insulaters matte white and rough textured or are the shiny white and smooth. They should be matte and rough. There is a whole thread on fake LG hg2 in the battery section of these forums. Check it out.

When buying batteries from ebay you should expect fakes.
He listed them as "genuine LG" since nobody is going to buy batteries listed as "fake LG".
I got my money refunded, seller explained that the supplier is within china, they go through standard quality checks to insure they're okay but sometimes they slip up and it's impossible to keep a tab on every single battery which means potentially they can mix legit and fakes together.
He also mentioned the latest batch he has received he has had lot of customers complaining and facing same issue and it's damaging his business.

In other words they are fakes. Back a while ago the most counterfeited battery was the AW, then the MNKE, then the Sony VTC's, then the Samsung Blue 25R's.

The only battery I've had go bad and start to vent on me was a counterfeit AW 18490. That taught me a lesson on making sure the batts I buy are from someone I know who tests every batch they get.

Already seen that

Nice. Well, it seems you didn't have to return those batts for your refund. So if you have them kicking around... it's time to tear off those brown wrappers and take pics of the bare metal.

That is, if you're OK with uninsulated fireworks sitting next to each other.

I typed that out and realized I have unwrapped 18650s to recycle, but nothing to put them in. Luckily, I had just chucked 8 of those individual 18650 boxes in the waste paper bin. Dug them out.
