There always seemed like there was an important component missing from what we knew about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Yes, it is a new (now five-)film series written by J.K. Rowling. Yes, it shows a new side of the wizarding world with a new country and a new era. Yes, it has an array of suitably cool, adorable and quirky wizard and no-maj characters for us to fall in love with. But it still felt like there was something not gelling about the movie to give it the same depth as the tale of the Boy Who Lived fighting against He Who Must Not Be Named.
During a fan event teasing the upcoming release of the first Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film, that missing piece seems to have been revealed. There, Rowling confirmed that this series won't just be the story of Newt Scamander and his suitcase full of magical creatures that is set loose on New York City, but also explore the history of Gellert Grindelwald and Albus Dumbledore.
