Fargo ended Season 2 with a bittersweet, thoughtful and sometimes unexpected reflection on the many characters and themes it introduced in Season 2.

Full spoilers for Fargo's Season 2 finale, "Palindrome," continue below.

Fargo isn't, and has never been, a true story. But as a montage of dead Gerhardts played out with Patrick Wilson narrating the FX series' opening declaration -- "This is a true story. At the request of the survivors, the names have been changed. Out of respect for the dead, the rest has been told exactly as it occurred" -- you could feel the way Fargo does reach for some ultimate truths.

That sense continued throughout the entirety of "Palindrome" as creator Noah Hawley wrapped up his sophomore season. There were surprisingly few deaths after the massacre that played out in "The Castle." But not every character had a happy ending, even if they got exactly what they'd been after all season.
