Finally got my mod set up over the other day

So I finally got all my stuff in for a super cheap mod build up. It consist of my 9$ Cov 200w 3 18650 tempest. Using cheap off ebay 25R batteries, and a cheap 13$ Wotofo Troll RTA. I am currently using the coils and cotton they sent inside of the RTA box, but i will be replacing those soon with some kind of other cotton and my own coils or getting some pre-mades.

I am still learning this mod since I am new to vaping. Used a SMOK Vape Pen 22 for 3 weeks it was one of those where you put the coil head in and just fire it and go.

This one takes some getting used to where the juice doesnt get a burnt taste by too much wattage, but i get good flavor without going too low. Right now on the juice I am on, I seem to be good at 53 watts on a .29 ohm reading for the dual coils...any higher and the juice starts to kind of get a cooked taste and a harsh hit. 53 watts on that seems to be somewhere around 3.9-4 volts.

So far I am liking it...I just have to get used to this whole adjusting the airflow and power to the juice etc. I welcome any and all tips.

Pro Tip: Don't buy "cheap" 25R's on eBay. 25R's are cheap from trusted vendors already.

Still playing around with it. I def like the mod. I feel like I get better flavor with the Vape Pen 22 at the moment though.

An RTA will beat out any sub-ohm tank. Especially the troll, which I hear is a good one.

While you are learning.. Try to remember as well:

1. single-coil can often trump dual-coil (flavor certainly)
2. smaller is not necessarily a bad thing (chambers and diameter)
3. the "draw" has a LOT to do with flavor vs clouds/waste
4. Kanthal and SS316L are your friends (simple round wire is still a mainstay)
5. Nuttin' wrong with some of the older style RTAs ;-)
6. Start the watts low and work up (in particular with a new build - and those like priming-puffs, too)

I want to offer a different opinion on single coils. When I was new to vaping and rebuilding I was buying single coil RTAs and RDAs because I heard people saying that single coil vaping is better for flavor. I soon found that was not the case for how I like to vape.

If you are using an MTL device or something with a small chamber and tight draw then single coil can be the way to go for good flavor. In my experience though I get better flavor from a dual coil build. With dual coils you can vaporize more juice. More juice being vaporized means a denser cloud. A denser cloud means a stronger more saturated flavor. Vaping like this will cause you to go through juice faster than a single coil though.

It really comes down to how you like to vape though. If you don't care about making massive clouds and you like a tight MTL type draw, then you will probably want to gravitate towards single coil setups. If you need a big dense cloud to satisfy the itch that cigarettes scratched, then you will probably prefer 2 or more coils.

I just wanted to let you know that it isn't as simple as the sentiment that single coil builds are better for flavor.

I'd love to agree, but I simply can't - it might be because I refuse to accept vaping at 50+ watts.. *sigh* I just rigged the griffin-25 again last night and it sure chucks clouds, but - just no flavor. I suspect my issue here is that wattage. It always strikes me as a waste.

That said, YMMV and all that - I don't like all the fruity flavors either - it's all subjective ;-)
