The Television Academy has unveiled the 2016 Emmy Award nominees, and the reigning Outstanding Drama Series returns with the year's highest number of nominations.
Game of Thrones has been nominated 23 times at the 2016 Emmys, including once again for Outstanding Drama, which it won last year when it accumulated 24 nominations. Limited Series nominees The People v O.J. Simpson and Fargo are close behind, earning 22 and 18 nominations respectively.
The drama side of the nominations also made room for several first-time nominees or category appearances, including Mr. Robot, which just kicked off its second season on July 13, and The Americans, which has received several nominations before but never for Outstanding Drama until now. These two shows will compete with Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Downton Abbey, Homeland, and Better Call Saul for Outstanding Drama Series.
