Flavor taste changes

So I know that your taste buds can change. Mine have over the past year and a half. But most of the time it has been a slow process. One day a flavor didn't taste "right". The next day it taste normal, but not as enjoyable, until the day that it just tastes bad to you. You take a break from it and eventually it begins to taste good again.

That's what I am hoping will happen to me with one of my favorite DIY recipes. I have been vaping jacksters cereal killa for a few weeks, and I love it. But today that all changed. And in an instant too. I was on my way to a job interview, and the flair was just a fresh as the day I first made it. I spent 2 hours in the interview. And when I came out, the flavor was absolutely unbearable.

It went from dry fruit loops to a lemony citrusy almost soda taste. I can't explain why it would have happened all of a sudden. It wast like it was a new batch or anything. It was the same rank that was still screwed into be same mod as when I went into the interview.

I tried the same juice in a different tank at home, and I can say for sure it is the juice, not my equipment.

Has anyone ever noticed their taste buds changing so drastically so quickly?

My understanding is that our taste buds fluctuate constantly. I'm not going to pretend that I completely understand why (in fact I don't understand why at all).

I get the same effect too. One minute a juice tastes one way... Later in the day of tastes different. I get the same effect with food and drink too! I recently had a cold and the effect was amplified 10 fold!

I think it's fairly normal.

Hope you get the job! :)

Thanks. I do too. Been out of work for a little while now. Part of the reason I started DIY. Switching to vaping helped save cig money. DIY helped save even more.

Glad to hear it's not just me. I was starting to think it was something wrong with my juice

That is one reason a lot of us use multiple flavors. Flavor fatigue. I keep 6-8 flavors going, switch between them all day. Keeps my taste buds fresh, they don't get used to just one flavor.

That's part of what's weird. I use anywhere from 4-6 flavors a day. I have 6 tanks in rotation at any given time. I vape cereal and fruity flavors in the morning, and more cakey, pastry flavors in the afternoon. I never vape one flavor for more than a few hours each day. In the past, I've been able to use store bought flavors for months before my taste buds became fatigued. Just a few weeks of using this one seems like a really short period of time, considering how limited my use was

Taste can sure be a odd thing. Up, down and all over. I would also say that the stress of the interview could have effected your mental ability I'm enjoying the vape.

I call it the angry vape vs happy vape. Some days you need a strong flavoring because your stressed and some days that lightly delicate flavor is just right.

Today my strawberry mix is just not right. Uggg. It so bugs me....but I dropped in my orange in your face mix and it's great...and I'm about ready to try out my tobacco vanilla caramel vape that has been steeping for 5 weeks.

I got to thinking about this; could there have been some type of constant air-freshener thing going on in the place where you interviewed? There are some chemicals that will totally skew (and screw) your sense of smell, and taste is probably 80% smell. If your sense of smell got used to the scent in the place you interviewed, and it contained one or more of those chemicals, then yeah, definitely it could seem to change your tastebuds immediately.

Just a thought.

That's true about taste being affected by smell. But it doesn't explain why my other 5 flavors taste the exact same as the always did. And some of them use the same ingredients, so it's not a specific flavor being affected.

While some chemicals can do a lot to change you sens of smell, this was a glp lab, so everything is handled with care in fume hoods. My interview was away from any lab equipement

Hmm, that's a real head scratcher. Have you tried making a fresh mix of that juice? Maybe something happened to what was in that particular tank or atty.

My tastes have gone thru weird phases; the Virginia I used at first because it tasted so much like Virginia Slims, now tastes like soured laundry to me, that icky smell you get when you forget something you laundered in the washing machine overnight, or towels that have been wadded up rather than hung up to dry. I used to be a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE fan of italian sausage on pizza, and now can't tolerate it whatsoever, it just tastes... I dunno, gamy or something.

I just got slammed with really bad allergies yesterday. Worse than normal. The day of my interview, I was fine, but if my allergies stared affecting my smell and taste first, that could explain it all. I'll give it a few more days till my nose and throat clear up. Maybe I'll be back to normal soon
