I insist everyone try it in HIC's Creamy Strawberry Malt. It is OUT OF THIS WORLD. I've been vaping it for over a week and it's still thrilling. Plus, very interesting recipe.

just made this up .. had the oba oba but no meringue .. @wllmc took pity on me and pony express'd an emergency meringue my way.. as i was dogged & determined to make it with, even tho it said 'optional' :p - and after waiting like forever to mix this up... i'm so gonna wait and let it steep before I try it... at least a full 8 to 10 mins ;p

I know this might be an impossible ask without the addition of diacetyl and all the other nasties, but I'm really wanting a nice butter rum flavour using flavourart.

I had some freedom smoke butter rum years ago and it was lovely, right up my street. I just want to try and replicate this as I love butter rum recipes.

Hope you guys and gals can help me out here.

I'd be willing to bet that our mixing magician (lol!) @HeadInClouds could advise on a FA butter rum mixture. ;)

I'm waiting with baited breath!

Hic's always my go to for issues like this.

I'm well aware that he's mentioned before that butter is basically diacetyl. It's just a question of whether our fellow guru knows of a way around this issue.

I have Capella's butter flavoring, bought it for one recipe. Instead of using the dripper tip on the bottle, I took it off and used a glass dropper. It was covered inside and out with a greasy film. ...I haven't used it since.

Interesting. Maybe there's hope yet. I did a clone a long time ago now that used loranne butter rum and English toffee in huge quantities. It was a lovely recipe but expensive to make in big amounts.

That was before all the diacetyl info and all that that came out.

Did I harm you then? I don't understand the whole situation with the dyictal or whatever it is?

Nah never got harmed by it but nowadays I play safe. What's the point in moving away from harmful's to just move on to more.

What flavourart is doing for us all as a community is fantastic.

Saying that though I'm a sucker for capella custards.

There are a lot of things in life that won't harm you if you try it once, but long term use might be a whole 'nother story. If risk can be minimized/avoided, I'd just say "better safe than sorry." But do I still vape Pandoro? yep. :p Just not as often. Luckily, there are a lot of othe flavors out there that are "safe" and really good.

Yeah, I'm in that boat. I vape mixes knowing one way or the other, but don't ADV those that do. I've tried, but they make me cough, so that tells me enough right there. Being able to make the informed choice matters.
Exactly. I can enjoy dripping a little diacytle (sp?) laced flavors for a little while, but if I put it in a tank, it will make me nauseous before it's empty. I try to avoid it as much as possible.

Hi everyone. Some of you have probably already seen this, it's info in an email from Nude Nicotine that I received today. It has nothing to do with FA but thought its good info to pass, and kind of goes with what was just being discussed.

--Butyric acid is the common ingredient in these yogurt flavor, the major constituent imparting the rancid and creamy flavor of cultured yogurt. Cool chemistry to think about! And to-date, no journalistic evidence exists proving the butyric acid chemical to be harmful by inhalationby itself.

"BY ITSELF" being the operative words here. Recent rummaging around the interwebs and speaking with an old UCSD professor of mine has yielded an astounding piece of literature -

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18940962

TL;dr (science stuffs) = Butyric Acid is a modulator of diacetyl reductase, the emzyme that breaks down diketones of many forms (think diacetyl, acetion, acetyl propionyl, etc...). If butyric acid is present in solution, it will downregulate the activity of diacetyl reductase, effectively allowing the diketones to remain in your body for longer periods of time, leaving them to their naughty business for longer periods of time (not good).

Conclusion - Butyric acid in eLiquids should be safe for inhalation based upon the current literature, however its presence should be accompanied by NO DIKETONE CONTENT WHATSOEVER. This presents an increased health-risk if they are indeed present in solution.--

If you don't know, Butyric acid is what is being used to replace "custard notes" in some flavors.

out of curiosity, what are these "custard notes" I often see mentioned when talking about custards? Flavor?
Sometimes people talk about them as if they are good, other times people advertise a juice being without them.

If your getting a custard, don't you want it to taste like custard?

diacetyl, acetion, and/or acetyl propionyl are used in flavoring to achieve the buttery, creamy, gooey cake taste in custards, some creams, bakery flavors, and some fruits. There is evidence that these are dangerous to inhale, especially diacetyl. so far there aren't any alternatives that can make those flavors as well.

Can I multiply this recipe by two ? (or some notes will be off ?).
Just, btw, made a variation where I (gluttonously) tried adding extra fa strawberry and tfa strawberry and it didn't make it ANY better or more flavorful. In fact, it may have made it less delicious.

hahaha I just found a use for old TFA flavors: nephews polished off the milk and didn't leave any for my morning coffee. Reached into my box for TFA Sweet Cream - 20 drops and I'm good to go! :D
Lol! I do recall reading a post from HIC saying he used his Capella flavorings in his coffee....;)

So I read Sully's sweet berry mash recipe and decided to give it a go. Problem is, all I have is the strawberry and forest fruit.. So I just went with 2.5% of each. Definitely a nice mix and plenty sweet enough for me :). I'll be ordering the rest soon enough so I can properly taste it. :D

I was intrigued by FA Violet flavor, anyone have a recipe this works in?

Anyone remember Violet Gum?
Wondering if you could use one of the gum base flavors and this to recreate it..

Thoughts?

Did I ever mention I like Vienna Cream? lol
In a lot of recipes, you could use Catalan Cream in its place. If a little extra vanilla, a touch of citrus (it's not much, but it's there), a little caramel, and a hint of cinnamon (that some can taste and some can't) - if those would not be out of place with the other ingredients, use Catalan instead. Same percentage. It would sure work in a vanilla chai latte, for example.

I LOVE butter rum, too (well, anything butter LOL), and was crushed when I found that butter flavors had the nasty stuff in them. I found HIC's Butterscotch Rum recipe, which may give you a good place to start. I'm not a super taster, so I doubled the recipe. It's good!

FA Butterscotch 1%
FA Vienna Cream 1%
FA Rum .5%
Acetyl Pyrazine .5%

Here's another Butter Rum recipe from Heabob here on VU:

FA Rum 3%
FA Butterscotch .5%
FA Caramel .5%
FA Coconut .5%

Finally, I believe HIC came up with this recipe for butter flavor. I haven't played around with it, but may try adding it to the recipes above. Extra butter, please! :D

FA Vienna Cream 1%
FA Caramel .25%
FA Coconut .25%
FA Hazelnut .25%
Acetyl Pyrazine .25%

I hope this helps!

I did those? I don't remember that, but they look like something I'd use in a recipe. If I were to use that last mini-recipe, I'd probably use Walnut or Nut Mix now (instead of Hazelnut), and I'd try to work around using plain acetyl pyrazine in general, by using flavorings that contain it.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure those are yours. If I remember right, you didn't post them as recipes, but they came from a discussion either here on VU or in the other place. I remember writing everything down so I wouldn't lose it LOL. Do you remember a post about a Butter Rum pudding? I'm thinking that's where it came from because I wrote that down, too. Will put your Walnut and Nut Mix suggestions in my notes!

@Smokachino , you're an impressive historian. Yes, that rings a bell, and I think it evolved into a whiskey-caramel thing.

Well, thanks, but I usually forget stuff I'm supposed to remember :D I am pretty good at using the Search function, though . . . those posts are numbers 1093 and 1106 in this thread (back in July, 2014). I'll have to look harder for the butter one, though

I think it will be great!! The think I hate most about mixing is the clean up. Having to clean all the syringes after mixing. I normally try to do large patches when I am mixing so I don't have to go through all the cleaning as often. I also think I will be playing with mixing more once the scale comes in so I am really excited. Just mixed up another 400 mls of GOC and I need to order more GOC. (HINT HINT 55 gallon drum :D)
