Forgot OHM's Law

I was vaping a few years ago, and suddenly fell into hookahs. It took me a while to realize how bad they were health wise. Anyway..not about hookahs. I have a 150Watt mod and a tank with a .30 resistance. I am trying to dial in the wattage. Where should I be watt wise?

If it's a regulated mod... you can put the wattage where ever you want. The mod will stop you from going higher then the coil resistance can handle. Just be sure you are using batteries with a min of 20a.

Start too low and keep turning it up until it's obvious you've gone too high. Turn it back down to where you liked it best. Any specific setting that is suggested by anyone else is nothing more than a wild ass guess.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Its working very nicely. I'm gonna start back to my old ways of building my own coils. As I remember with 24ga kanthal with I believe 5 wraps I was coming in at .05 ohms. Serious clouds. Country..I do have 30amp high drain batteries. Thanks.

Here is what I can't figure out. I used to smoke (deep inhale) hookah tobacco (smoke not vapor) that is loaded with nicotine. I'm vaping at about 30 watts .35 ohm with 3mg of nicotine, and I'm coughing my head off. Puzzled??

You mention you vaped a few years ago, was this with more restrictive airflow?

You may find if you have just started vaping again, a really airy, direct to lung draw is not for you, and a mouth to lung tank might be better, with higher nicotine juice to start with, or you will experience this coughing.

Also, as mentioned, with a regulated device you can put the wattage wherever you want, your resistance doesn't matter in regards to amp load on your batteries, watts do, and at 30W you are drawing at a maximum just 4.68A before chip efficiency-once this comes into play somewhere around 5.2A is likely.
This is assuming you are using a series, dual 18650 device, as you mention it is a 150W mod.

You could try turning the watts down a little bit to see if this helps you with the coughing, but it is likely a MTL setup will be best to start with.

EDIT: I should add, I am calculating with a cutoff of 6.4V-if the mod cuts of at 6.2V it will be slightly higher, but still well within safe limits of a 30A cell, which you mention you have-but unless they are something like LG HB6's they are likely 20A cells, but still more than enough for your needs :).

I do have the Cuboid which has series batteries. I will try to turn down the power a bit. Also I tried many times before to do a MTL hit. I can't do it. Also, I have a TugBoat mech box mod. I made many of my own coils before. This time I used 24ga Kantha, 5 wraps around a 3mm drill bit. Came up with .38 ohms. Why is the tank spitting and popping. Burns my mouth. I never had these problems before?

I like the cuboid, I have one myself in the collection.

What tank is it you are using, as you mention you have tried to do a MTL hit, but without success? I would say this is likely due to too much airflow-for MTL you need a lot less airflow, it is more restrictive and allows you to do MTL hits. A nautilus mini is an old tank, but very popular for MTL use, or if you prefer an RTA the serpent Mini can be used for MTL with the airflow reduced, and is a very flavoursome tank.

Spitting and popping can be annoying, especially 'spit back' that burns your mouth. Sometimes this is unavoidable unfortunately, depending on the tank or RDA, you mention a Tugboat mech, is it only happening on that with the 24G 0.38 build?
If so, I would go back to the resistance you enjoyed before on the mech, especially if you found no issues of popping and spitting.

That build is the only one I have done so far. Still trying to get back to the way things were before. I seem to vaguely remember someone telling me that the juice would spit and pop because I had too much juice in the RDA, and it began to boil rather than vape. Not sure.

I have a general forum question. How do I reply with a quote from another member?
You can hit the little "reply" in the bottom left corner of their post or your highlight the section of their post you want to reply to and a 'Quote Me!' will pop up. click on that and you are good to go
