Frist time mixing with FA

Hi everyone.
I hope i posted my topic in the appropiate section :)
Been following your advices regarding vape gear for months now but newly tried my luck with DIY juice. Now to my question :)

For 2 weeks ago i bought my diy gear. Tried with an aroma manufactory Called "german flavours". Tried 1 flavor standalone and one time with 2 flavors. Turned out perfect. Mixed this in 100ml bottles with 20% flavor, and 80 ml vg. So an easy 80/20 mixing.

Recently i wanted something more than just standalone flavors and something with more flavor. So i ordered some FA flavors, the flavors i like plus some i read about here on the forum. (Fresh cream, custard, forest mix, cold pressed lime, lemon sicily, vienna cream and cookie).
First of i Tried mixing something just out of my mind: 5% forest mix, 1% custard and 1% vienna cream. I read that FA flavors Are very strong so only use a small amount and let steep of course. I mixed a few diffrent bottles at 90/10 vg/pg. All under 10% flavoring, but everything tasted awful!!! Taste nothing close to What the flavor smells like :(

As i Said i Tried some diffrent recipes all about same amount of flavor and vg.
Just to clear some stuff up.
I vape around 80-110 watt, 0.15 ohm.
I got tfv8 cloud beast tank.
Tasted my vg and it taste great!
All the flavors Smell really good and i shake em really Well before using.

What did i do wrong? Too much vg? (I know it takes long for flavor to become good in a 90/10 mix. But steeped for a week, gotta taste something Right?)
More steeping?

Any advice for new diy guy and maybe idea for recipe with these flavors? :)

In my experience, Flavour Art's custard can take a while to reach it's full potential. I remember one recipe (Kiwi custard mixture) took almost a month. We would need more examples of what you're mixing to tell you what's wrong. I know plenty of people that mix Forest Fruit at 5% but maybe bring that down to 2-3% and see if that makes a difference. The other two flavor percentages look fine.

When I first started DIY I ordered a lot of flavours from FA. Most of the flavours I mixed from FA either tasted really bad or was completely flavourless while other concentrates (TFA for example) tasted good. I realized a few days later that the calculator I was using did not convert ml to grams properly. This "small" detail made a huge difference and when I thought I was mixing a flavour at a certain percentage I was actually off by .5 - 1% or even more in some cases. That's how I found out that I had to use a proper calculator but most importantly that most FA flavours have a really small margin for error.

Another mistake I made when I started my journey was buying flavours and thinking I could create my own recipes. Don't try to run before you can walk. That's exactly what I did and failed. Find popular recipes that appeal to you and order what you need to mix them. You'll start knowing your flavours and knowing what works for you and what doesn't. You might start tweaking recipes, adding flavours, removing others. And then you can start making your own recipes with more success.

Thought I'd share my experience and I hope it helps! Don't give up on FlavourArt concentrates, I almost did and that would've been a huge mistake. Their products are great!

Thank You for the replies! I Will try to stick to FA. The flavours i ordered Are good for a couple of recipes. I checked out "HIC"s fruit scones and lemon lime creamy goodness. So i knew i could make something good for sure. However i havent make anything taste like the description yet.
It could be my calculator as You Said @chipp. I use "e-juice me up". Is that a bad choice? ;)

No, there isn't anything wrong with that calculator at all but you do have to set it properly. For example, if you are mixing by drops, the default setting for drops per ml is 20 which is most likely, way off. That setting should be at least 33 and probably closer to 40 if you are using needle tipped flavoring bottles.

Yea i see, that sounds right. I will keep that in minds. However only using ml syringes :)

If your mixing with FA or anything else for that matter, I would mix by weight. Some FA recipes call for flavourings at 1% or even .5%. That's a small amount to get right even when making a batch of 100ml....what happens if you don't like it? that's a lot of wasted juice. Mixing by weight you can accurately make 10 or 20ml and it's no biggy if you have to use it as drain cleaner!

You need to and more flavor to your mix check your calculations.

Seconding mingerz, if you're new to DIY mixing 100 ml batches is a gamble. I usually go for 10-20 ml when trying new stuff. FA flavors are generally considered to be among the best but all manufacturers have some flavors that are harder to work with or not so good. FA Pineapple is one such. Many hate it, some love it. Try googling your flavors to see what people say about them and how they're generally used.
