Genshin Impact creator MiHoYo has said that it plans to add the game's four remaining unreleased locations over the next four years.

MiHoYo CEO Haoyu Cai offered an update on the development process for the open-world action role-playing game during a talk at the all-digital 2021 Game Developers Conference (GDC talks require payment upon registration in order to access them fully).

"Although Genshin Impact has been online [since 2020], we are still developing future content. We just finished the three nations [out of] seven, and the third one, Inazuma hasn't been updated yet. It will take us another four years to finish all the seven nations in Teyvat." said Cai.

Genshin Impact's recent 2.0 update increased the number of playable regions in the world of Teyvat with the addition of Inazuma. Players can explore the new region as well as previously released locations Mondstadt and Liyue. Each region is paired with its own element, archon, ideal and governing body to give it a uniqueness within the Teyvat. Each city has its own progression-based reputation system to encourage players to fully immerse themselves in the Genshin Impact experience.

We recently delved into Genshin Impact's 2.0 update to bring you everything electro-centric Inazuma has to offer, including new characters like Ayaka, Sayu, Yoimiya, and Beidou, farming, the return of Theater Mechanicus: Stage of Wonders, and the Thunder Sojourn event.

Elsewhere in the talk, Cai said, "We built a world composed of seven nations from the start of the project, and the world will be updated on the long-term, based on an annual agenda." Of those seven nations, four still remain unreleased: Sumeru, Fontaine, Natlan, and Snezhnaya.

In addition to the release of Genshin Impact's 2.0 update, MiHoYo has also been working in partnership with Guerrilla Games. MiHoYo recently announced that Aloy, the lead character in Horizon Zero Dawn and the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West, will join the world of Teyvat for a limited time. We said that an "incredible open-world and addictive exploration make Genshin Impact anime-zing adventure" in our 9/10 review.
