getting back into mech's.. please help

i started vaping a few years ago and one of my first mods was the very first original AR mod, I switched to regulated box's not to long after because of convenience and, at the time, believed I could do so much more with regulated. I've been looking at getting back into the mechs because of simplicity of the mods and imho they look so much better than boxes. I really miss my tube mod so that's what I'm looking at getting.
now for the "please help" part of the post..
since I've been away from this part of the world of vaping for so long the rules have changed from when I was around it. I'm looking for a good tube (I know copper is best because of conductivity) and a good rda or rta that can work well on tube (griffin perhaps?). now the coils have changed and become so much more complex and intricate than the standard 24 ga 5 wrap from back in the day, what would be a good target build with gauge and thickness of wrap and amount of wraps, i'll be using the vtc4's for power source. I know the ohms law and guides are out there but my current location and circumstances of being away make it hard to look up any of that information due to bandwidth issues. any help and advice is appreciated thank you

If you do not know ohm's law and how it works you do not need to be using an unregulated device. Unregulated is nice, but I would recommend you just spending that money on a new regulated mod.

I'm sorry if my post was confusing, I have the basic safety knowledge of ohms law. What I'm asking for is advice on type of coil, type of wire, and recommendations on mods (authentic/clone). The reason I ask for advice on those is because everything has changed including on what type of metal is preferred for flavor.

Steam-Engine calculator, but for your phone, and doesn't require internet (has ohms law calc, coil wrapper, battery guides, converters, etc.)

The Griffin is great if you want the best of both worlds (build your own coils, but still have a tank). But if you want to be switching flavors frequently, you'd be better off with an RDA. That will be up to you to decide, how you vape will determine what you want.

As for a tube mod, Stingrays and Nemesis (both very similar in design and feel) are good tube mechs.
  • They have 510 and hybrid tops (Hybrid should only be for when you're experienced enough to use one safely, just stick with the 510 top).
  • They have magnetic fire buttons (but can be fitted with springs too)
  • They have a locking ring (generally safer than a recessed button)
  • They are multi-tubed (can be used with a 18350/18500/18650)
  • They come in an assortment of colors and finishes
  • They are Copper tubes, and come either in bare copper, or with a finish (carbon, powder-coat, glossed finish, polished metal finishes, etc)
  • They are machined well and easy to clean (smooth threads, and easy disassembly)
  • They are affordable ($30 in a B&M, and even cheaper online)
As for builds, that's entirely up to you and your vaping style. Just peruse around the coil building threads and see what's what. Since there are alot of factors to coil building, we can't really suggest builds without knowing what it's going into or on (how many coils, what Mod/Tank/RDA, what your vaping style is, what your coil building skill level is, etc).

BUT, before any of that, make sure you KNOW Ohms Law and Battery Safety, and should invest in an Ohm Meter for your own safety. Get that Vape Tool App so you always have Steam-Engine by your side.
You say you're going to use VTC4s, which is great (assuming they are authentic), but good batteries are not the only factor to being safe. Even though VTC4s are rated to 30A, I wouldn't recommend pushing them to that extent. A 0.15ohm coil will draw 28A, which should be the lowest you should ever go on a single cell mech, and even that's still pretty low.
I don't know your experience level, or the depth of your knowledge, so I won't berate you or anything, but I know alot of people who have built for Reggys for years, have gotten accustomed to the ease of building on them, and then expect the same level of ease when getting into mechs. It just doesn't work that way. With a Mech, you work for the mod, the mod doesn't work for you.
I fully encourage people to learn to build on mechs, because if you can build on a mech safely, you can build on anything.
Just please be safe and study up before you dive back down into mechs.
And good luck with your transition back to mechs :)
