got my first mech...won a 4 Nine and need advice

I recently won a 4 Nine and a kayfun lt. blk from Artemus and they're still sitting on the counter in the box. I've been vaping for almost a yr. and a half and my main devices are 2 provaris and an mvp 2, with carto tanks and protank 2's and various other BC tanks. It's been a mostly satisfying experience but I'm ready to move on to mechs. I have done rebuilding of simple atomizers but that's it. Some of the things I've read about the four 9 firing easily have me a little nervous. I'm just wanting some suggestions on good sources for tutorials and any advice on whether this is a good device for me to start on. I'm a pretty quick study so once I'm through the learning curve I'm sure it will be ok. TIA for any help.

Biggest thing to remember is that the 4nine is a hybrid mod. Whatever atty you attach to it better have a 510 pin that sticks down below the threading of the connector screw or it WILL short out on you. That is not a fun thing to have happen either.

The 4Nine isn't a good starter mechanical in my opinion. Way to finicky with atty center pin lengths and slight battery length differences. As RoofMonkey pointed out, they can be downright dangerous.

I'll second that opinion. Not suggesting to get rid of it though. It's a nice little mech indeed, but not the best for a first mech mod.

Don't use any of those BC style tanks like Kanger/Aspire/Smoktech etc on the 4nine. The 510 pin on those heads can get pushed in due to the force from the battery/magnet always pushing up and will cause a short for sure. That being said, i have two authentic 4nines and one clone and have used them without issue. Just have to make sure you know what you are doing.

The items you have won is exactly what I primarily vape on now :) Assuming both items are authentic, the Kayfun pin is long enough to work safely with the 4Nine. Here is a pic of mine in 18350 mode:

However, I would strongly recommend you first get the coil building and wicking down before using it on the 4Nine. Your MVP2 would be perfect to learn with. I personally found the sweet spot for the Kayfun off a mechanical to be at 1.25ohms, but anything within the range of 1.1-1.4 will do just fine.

@KKen has excellent advice. I agree with all he said about the mvp, and also think kayfuns are best at 1.2-1.5ohms. Just start on the mvp, I built a successful coil my first try on a kayfun, the most difficult aspect is wicking.

I've played with a 4nine a bit, and they are nice. I think you'll be ok, but it definitely isn't an ideal first mech IMO. I don't own one, it's just the hybrid connector aspect, as has been mentioned.

Thanks everyone. Mine is a clone which I believe Artemus improves upon before he sends it out. In any case, I think I'll stash the mod and practice my builds on the Kay fun lt., then use it on the mvp 2 as suggested. Makes sense to me for now.:)

Here is a link to a review that I did for two 4nine clones .. even if you are not ready to use it yet, the info contained therein will be helpful to you.
