Omg .... I guess anything can go a way that someone doesn't like, but what exactly does that have to do with competition in health insurance?
I don't care what country my carrier is based out of, provided I can afford to get the healthcare I need.
My chair was made in Sweden, I'm not complaining. Thankfully I have metric tools from vapegear.

The corporate way.
Buy up a competing company. then sell it off later at a price that guarantees that the purchaser cannot undercut your price.

Again, if it lends itself to lower prices to me, than great!
I'm not to proud to bug fruit of the loom from Walmart.

And that is why America has passed it's peak.
You're right, some of us don't want to more for health insurance than we do for rent or mortgage

I already pay more for my HC ins than my mortgage.
Thats good for some, maybe. However since I have 2 kids and a fiance, to pay over 1200a month in insurance is a bit more than I can stomach.

If I can find more for less, I'll gladly buy it.

No, I was not at work.
I was on my way to work and my personal vehicle broke down. I was walking and an uninsured distracted driver doing 65mph hit me.
I got nothing but a fancy chair out the deal. Which is why I went back to school. My wife at the time filed for divorce while I was in a coma(thank God)
Overall though, I am the luckiest man alive. My folks are still around so I could crash there while going back. I came a long way since then though. Nothing a little hard work and determination can't help.you accomplish.

Thank you, to be honest I try to just share it when it's pertinent to conversation. (Like why i have a certain perspective on things, why my mods are always beat up or when someone says they 'cant' do something). Truthfully I guess it flows out sometimes though because of public speaking.

About $600 thru Obama care for me and the wife.
I got a quote, if I had to buy it outright without employer or anything, I would pay 750$ a month for just me alone.
And that's for catastrophic coverage only.

Same here no employer or anything.
Just checked and it is $649 for medical and dental with presc coverage.
For me and the wife thru Obamacare.

This is why I don't care what the corporation does, where the outsource or how they have to lower the cost.
I stand by my opinion, competition breeds lower cost to the consumer.
I would gladly pay less; especially in a day and age where healthcare coverage is a necessity. I just don't see where Obamacare will ever be able to accomplish that.

You mean like Ford and Chevy?
Or Dell, gateway and HP
Or Delta and united
Or gulf oil and exxon
Eventually true competition let's things level out.
The only problem with this analogy is that most of these companies do not have a captive audience. There are always companies willing to sell you more for less. Not so with pharma. Often that means less for less but it still works.

When you need medication to live you can't just not buy it. This is why these guys are gouging prices. There are no market forces to balance this out because of ridiculous patents on the drugs. I understand the company that makes the drugs should make their R&D costs back. But, they shouldn't be treating these medications like they are a Mercedes Benz. Lives are at stake.

Go to other countries and you will see how much cheaper the same medications are. In some cases you can blame the FDA, but medications like those for things like HIV are so out of wack with cost it's sickening. Then it takes some government program or charitable organization to provide these to those that can't afford them. This model will never lower the costs. I hate regulations bit they are sometimes needed. Big Corp can not be trusted with people's lives.

Not to mention that doctors over prescribe for personal gain.

Agreed, hence my thought at removing some of the regulation.

Your right prescriptions are insane I needed a inhaler for a problem . My co pay was 500 . I called the dr and told him forget it . It would be a car payment every month ! It's fucked up when my parents on fixed incomes can't afford medicine . It forces you to do without and there is something wrong with that if we are a first world country !

Amen there!!!!

When I moved from Nola to Ohio I had to change insurance providers.
In Louisiana one drug was a 10$ copay.
In Ohio it's not covered and would be 600$.
Guess what drug I no longer take?

Another one went from 8$ copay to 25$ copay.

How does any of this make sense? All that changed was my zip code.

i thought this was common knowledge.... none the less, look into it. Medical insurance is not allowed to compete state to state.
I had Blue cross Blue shield when I was injured, but it was BlueCross of Louisiana. If I waned to go get a policy through the Mississippi office I could not, I had an address in Mississippi, but worked for a company based in baton rouge, therefore I had to use the Louisiana office and pay Louisiana rates; which were 75$ a month more for the same plan.

the way things are structured prohibits competition across state lines. its just a nice way to hinder lowering the cost of insurance, and really makes blood want to shoot out of my eyes when I see another bureaucracy created in the name of lowering cost. Rather get out of the way and let the free market dictate the lower price, they choose to create another government entity, with more people to pay, more taxes to pay for those people and then say they will magically lower the price for "more care and more services." when in history has increasing expenses, services and manpower equated to a lower cost?

That has next to nothing to do with it. Private insurance companies are subject to individual State insurance regulations. It is impossible to build a "universal" private policy that would cover individual regulations in just two States while allowing for specific limits and exclusions, let alone in 50 States.

Of course is you are in favor of eliminating States rights on this one have at it. I think that's called "single payor."

Negative
I'm in favor of removing the state and federal regulations on health insurance companies they prohibit interstate commerce on this one product alone.
Not single payer, not one insurance company. Letting all of the companies cross state lines in whatever way they choose. The market will sort out who wants what

I think his point is state laws take precedence over federal currently due to states rights. This is why different states participate differently in the ACA.

Medicare for everyone.
Providers would just have to deal with one insurance company so a drop in their overhead.
Insurance companys profits would be removed from the equation.

IMHO health care should be like and education and largely be socialized.

(CNN)A new letter from the leading Democrat on the House oversight committee, Rep. Elijah Cummings, reveals new information about former national security adviser Michael Flynn and what he told investigators about his ties to foreign governments when he was interviewed about his security clearance.

According to the Report of Investigation, which Cummings refers to in his letter to committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, Flynn made false statements to investigators about who funded his foreign trips, including a 2015 trip to Russia where Flynn was paid roughly $45,000 to speak at an event in Moscow. According to the letter released Monday by Democrats on the committee, Flynn claimed that his trips were funded by "US companies."
The report stated that Flynn said he "had not received any benefit from a foreign country."

Just compare the non socialized medicine in several of the 2.5 - 3rd world countries such as VZ to the private care in the USA.

I am sure that private care in Zambia is just as good as ours by some illogic.

I had a client who was a dentist in Mexico. I saw his office, and that was enough for me.

That said, I know of several sci patients who went to India for stem cell treatments. All have had glowing reviews of the treatment they received at a fraction of the cost here.

India's per capita income (nominal) was $1,570 in 2013, ranked at 112th out of 164 countries by the World Bank, while its per capita income on purchasing power parity (PPP) basis was US$5,350, and ranked 106th.

So we just need to offshore our healthcare?

I had wondered why so many Indian doctors over here.

That or go through rapid deflation. Lol

Personally, I would rather fix the insurance system and the pharmacology issues. I kind of like having advancements in care and treatment. I just don't like the fact that it rivals my other living expenses.
