Harsh burn everytime I refill my eVTC mini

I am new to vaping. I have been using my Joyetech eVTC mini for about 2 months. I have used stainless steel coils and titanium. Suddenly, everytime I refill my tank, I get a harsh burn in my throat with minimal cloud production. Sorry if my terms arent correct. I usually use Brood juice, and am now using Vaping Birdy. Vaping Birdy is 80VG/20PG, not sure about Brood.
I am making sure my wicks are primed. and this is occuring even if I dont allow the juice in the tank to go really low.
Since I switched back to stainless steel coils, my mod keeps defaulting back to Power mode even though I select Temp SS as soon as I fire it.
Im kind of lost. Im really enjoying vaping, but I keep having to get through these harsh burn periods lately. Any ideas what Im doing wrong. It has happened with new coils as well.
Thank you

Here is an update. After letting the unit sit for about 30 minutes without firing it, its smoothe now when I use it. Does this mean the wicks are not getting saturated with juice or they are drying out during refill? I am priming the wick ports when I change coils, and they appear saturated when I refill the tank. Thanks,

Couple of things can do it. Wattage set to high happens frequently. Some high VG juices don't do well in tanks, the thickness prevents the juice from getting through to the coil and keeping it saturated. Other times it is just a bad coil, but you said you had already tried that.

What Firmware Version is your mod using?
What tank are you using?

Which sub-ohm tank are you using? The tank that comes with the eVic VTC Mini is either the eGo One or the Tron, I am not aware that stainless steel coils are available for either one of those tanks.

I have updated the firmware to 1.2.
I use the stock eGo tank.
I am considering either upgrading to the CLR rebuildable heads or buying a new tank. The tanks m considering based on reviews and online input I have found are: Billow Nano2, Crown Uwell and Kanger subtank.
Im still getting harsh tastes immediately after refilling the tank and early in the morning after it has sat all night. Really the only nice burn is in the middle of the tank and its fleeting. Im still very new to this and learning a lot.
What is bugging me the most is this did not seem to happen when I first got the device, but after a month or so and after changing the coils a couple times. Maybe my taste is changing. I dropped back down to 3mg nicotine and the same results as at 6mg, so its not the nicotine.
Thank you.

What is the resistance (ohms) of the coils and what is the wattage your running them at? A pic would help too..

I use 0.5 resistance coils.
I use to run 18W, but when I went to my independent vape shop, he was running it up around 25-27W. This was better for a while, but now tonight Im getting bad flavors again.
My juice is fresh. Im thinking I might need to change coils again. I go through about 30ml every 10 days, so I dont know how often I should expect to change coils.
I did notice if I hit the trigger and wait for a quick 0.2sec unti lI hear the burn really kick in it is a better taste, so maybe the juice isnt coming through the smaller cotton holes as well. I switched to a lower VG consistency with the exact same results.

Hmmm..
I run the Crown .5 coil around 45-50w
I like the .25 around 65-70w..
These stainless Crown coils like the higher wattages to really shine..they use Japanese cotton that produces a clean flavorful vape ..I prime a new coil and start low and bump up the power to my sweet spot..coils last a long time too..Don't know much about the other tanks you use..
But the Uwell Crown is a great tank when fired with enough power

Wish I could've helped more, good luck

Thank you. I searched for "tanks to use with my VTC mini" and found several people commenting on using those tanks WITH the VTC mini. But Im thinking about starting with the CLR coils as that was one persons feedback. Thanks again. I will likely upgrade to something like what youre using eventually.

Your welcome! Glad to have helped..
But the Crown actually sits on the shelf since upgrading to the Griffin RTA..
Don't get me wrong, the Crown is a awesome tank, but the Griffin produces more vaper and flavor with a easy to build velocity style dual coil deck..

And I don't have to buy those expensive replacement coils anymore..nice chatting with you!

I don't think they make an SS coil for that tank. The 0.5 coil is probably Nich or kanthal that's why it's jumping out of temp mode.
I don't have that tank but I find with high VG liquid I need to back off on the power so the wick can keep up and I need to let it sit for awhile before vaping.
The fact that after it sits for a time it works that's the tank telling you something. Maybe you do need a better tank if you like high VG liquids.

Thanks. It actually still tastes harsh after sitting for long periods, like overnight. I have had the same results with lower VG concentration liquids, Im sure there is a user error element here, and Im just trying to figure out what Im doing wrong...lol. Thanks again.

i have read that some of those premade coils like to have a pin hole poked through a juice port(s) to wick better. the only tank i have that uses coils is an atlantis and i didnt have to do that. i did, however, notice some of those coils had very short lifespans (days) while others would last a couple weeks. i took one apart to see what was inside and the wick was burnt. i re-wicked it with cotton bacon and it never did that again, lasted longer and tasted better than the stock ones. i re-wicked the same coils over and over and never saw a burnt one again.

awesome, I will try that. Im just getting comfortable with all the components enough to try that. Thank you.
