So after going through my first pack of replacement heads and being very displeased with how shortly they lasted and how much they cost, I got some kanthal wire and wick. I have 30 gauge wire, 32 gauge wire, organic Japanese cotton, and some very think silica cord. I've tried making several coils with different gauge wire and materials and they end up producing barely any vapor. Just a tiny almost invisible puff comes out after a long drag.

Just like all of the CE5 tutorials I've seen, I make five wraps of 32 gauge wire around the wick. The wire obviously does not touch the walls because it does fire. In some of my coils a few of the wraps may have touched each other, is that okay? What am I doing wrong? Should the wraps be close, far, or touching each other? I know it's not an issue with the wick absorbing juice because I put a few drops on the coil before assembling and it still barely works.

Let see some photos of your build and we can go from there.

"A few of them touching" is a problem. Either they all touch each other, or none of them do. But agreed, it's hard to speculate what you are doing wrong without seeing what you are doing.

Update: I finally made a coil that works and produces a regular amount of vapor, but there is no flavor. I used organic cotton as a wick and about 5-6 wraps of 32 gauge kanthal. I tried all four voltage settings on my battery and there is still no flavor. I'm about to give up because I'm sick of paying so much for liquid and not even enjoying it. When I first got the vape pen (a CE5 and stick battery) it tasted amazing with all the different flavors for about two weeks. Then I got some replacement heads and it was never the same. No flavor in any of the factory replacement heads or my own coils. I know its not me because other people who try it say it tastes like nothing too. What is wrong here? I get all my liquids from MyFreedomSmokes and they were great for the first few weeks. I must have ten different flavors and its all the same now.

Is it time for a new tank?? Would a slightly more expensive tank like a Kanger or Vivi Nova change things? Keep in mind I do take apart everything including the post and wash the gunk out every other day. I need a solution soon because I'm slowly starting to smoke analogs again since my vape pen is no longer satisfying.

would go for different top since the ce5 is really just a starter pen. rebuilding them seems to be more of a pain then its worth just my opinion though.

At this point you might want to spend the coin and get an iStick 20watt and a Nautilus Mini with bottom vertical coils. That seems to be the most common setup that people coming from stick (ego) batteries go to. I've been vaping since 2011 and have gone through a lot of crap vaping products, but I do have an iStick and Nautilus mini and use it quite often when I'm out and about. I wouldn't go out and get a sub-tank setup for a while, get comfortable with the iStick and the mini Nautilus first. You will get all the flavor and vapor you want with that setup, plus it's reliable and the coils last a long time and are not too difficult to rebuild.

I totally understand your frustration. When I first started I was using a Smok winder, with single coil heads. I gave up multiple times as the flavor was non existent, and I felt I was throwing my cash in the toilet.

@Zamazam 's advice is solid. Either the istick 20, 30, or 50 is a great choice, as is the nautilus mini tank. The tank itself won't solve your problem of saving money on coils, you'll still be replacing them. But they last far longer than what you're using, and you should be remarkably pleased with the flavor.

This set up sealed the deal on my leaving smoking behind. And as I was getting accommodated to it, I kept reading advice on this forum, and watching building videos in order to get comfortable building. Even though now I have two rta's and one dripper in my rotation, I still use my istick and nautilus 50% of the time.

Hang in there bud. We're all there for you.

I rebuilt the ce5's, what a pain in the butt. good times. Picked up a kayfun clone at Fast tech and started to get some flavor. Then pick up.......

It's a bloody steep hill your going down and most never recover. Clouds and flavor chasing, the juice of the month, damm that reviewer and his new atty, it's a clicky button. DOWN YOU GO!!!!!!!!
