I have lost count. The toughest convert was my girlfriend, but after I bought her a purple mod, it started to take. She has quit the clearo now (Melo) and for Christmas, got a Lemo 2. She is building it now. : )
I smoked for 30 years, and took up vaping to ingest more nicotine cheaper, quitting smoking was just a happy accident. For most of my friends that now vape, when I asked them why they made the descision, they told me that I was the most hardcore smoker they knew, and that if in 1 week I quit, and actually enjoyed vaping, it was worth a "try". I have given away the majority of vape stuff I've bought, I imposed a 5 atty rule to keep the lid on my natural tendancy to collect. I won't buy a new atty, until I've found a home for one of the 5. Its like Sophies Choice sometimes.
I never mention the word quit to a smoker. It brings out either belligerance (like in me) or fear of failing to quit. I tell them I've found somthing cheaper and better. Flavor means little to a smoker from my personal experience, and what I've seen in others. Their taste buds are fucked at the beginning anyways. Flavor comes later. They mostly want tobacco flavors to start, or wretched strong tasting drink or fruit flavors. Whatever it takes.
I always try to keep a tank loaded with a strong desert or chocolate for my female targets. several have asked me to take them to the vape shop after 2 or three vapes. lol
My usual vape shop gave me a bottle of free juice when I sold the 10th Subtank mini starter kit for them, which they didn't have to do, but was appreciated. I'm not in it for the juice, the juice is my friends, who I care about living longer.
I also will go after targets of opportunity, like those shivering outside, because they are trying to get their fix between work and the bus. I just smile at them, have a vape and saying literly in passing "you gotta try this!" I always carry a spare disposable drip tip in a sealed bag for the curious ones that approach me and ask questions. The vape shop gives them out for free for sampleing juice. I'll never know if they quit the stinkys or not, but it can't hurt. I answer their questions until I see they are getting saturated, and write out vapingundergroung.com on a card for them, and tell them to get as much information as possible from here, before they decide what to do.
This forum carries a lot more weight than some scary looking guy with a shaved head walking a wolf, that they just met. Depending on the person, I may or may not give them the name of a youtube reviewer I think they might relate to.
The ones who still smoke, and there are some, or do both, I never preach to.them, just ask if they need any juice, and leave it at that.
Already, I have seen the "2nd generation" that is met friends of people I got into vaping, that were introduced to vaping by somebody I introduced to it.
I also have lost track of how many times I've made a house call, after somebody has encountered a problem with their gear, or is trying to build. While not always convienant, I consider it a "duty of care".
In a different thread, I mentioned seeing a guy, who had to be 80 if he was a day, pull out a big mod, with an Artic Subtank on it, blow a cloud and smile as he walked through a parking lot. What a cool thing to see.
