My NF Organic Ginger finally arrived the other day so I immediately mixed this up. Unbelievable stuff. Let it sit overnight and can't put it down. I was afraid it'd be too "spiced" but it is really well balanced. I'm going to make a 100ml batch this weekend.

Thanks a ton! New ADV for sure :D

You're very welcome!

That's such a tasty ginger that I used it in lots of recipes. Did you get the big bottle directly from NF?

It may not do a body good to eat a whole jar, but it sure does keep your tongue happy.

What exactly did you order? The extract, coffee and tea flavoring, or regular flavoring?

I seriously have 2 jars of the Biscoff in the cupboard right now and ordered flavors with the intention to replicate it. Sadly, after seeing this just now, I'm lacking several lol.

Is their another ginger that you could recommend,I can not find the nf in Canada

Since it uses just 0.25% NF Ginger, you can cheat your way around it. You can sub 0.25% FA Cardamom, which tastes more like Lotus brand's biscoff. Or if you have Flavor West Ginger, you can use that at 0.5%. It's not near as good a ginger flavor, but it tastes okay as a minor ingredient.

Here is a source for NF Ginger that says they ship internationally: http://ejuice4u.com/ginger-natures-flavors/ Their US shipping is not cheap; I don't know what it might cost to Canada.

It's really disappointing that this excellent NF flavor isn't more widely available!

Which of NF Organic Flavors are more suitable for diy liquids? Extract or Concentrate? Or both maybe? Thanks for helping. Flavors are on the line :)

Thanks for the link, but it didn't answer my question :p i like to avoid Acetyl Propionyl and/or Acetoin in the flavors as far as possible. What's the lvl in your ginger flavor?

To avoid all possibility of any trace of diketones, do not vape any ginger flavoring by any company. FA Cardamom is a no-diketone option that works fine and gives authentic flavor in this recipe. Plenty of European bakers use it in speculoos.

NF has no-diacetyl ginger. They will not disclose any ingredient information about it.
Flavor West claims theirs has no acetyl propionyl, no diacetyl, no acetoin. Their history doesn't inspire confidence in their claims.

The rest of this is entirely my opinion, so feel free to ignore it all. In my opinion, there's - at most - very low levels of diketones in all of the ginger flavors I've mentioned. None of them is buttery-creamy-rich. (one I tried from ecigexpress, called 'ginger by flavors express' was a tobacco ginger that does seem to have a load of it, but it's a disgusting flavor anyway.) Used at 0.5% in a recipe, I'm pretty confident any diketones would be below the minimum detection levels in current use. But again - FA Cardamom to avoid all possibility!

Wow, thanks for your detailed info and the Cardamom tip.. As far as the dose is small it is not more harmful than the stuff you would inhale from the outside area. Would you recommend using NF Organic Flavor Extract/Concentrate (which one might wanna dilute in PG) without Diacetyl for DIY Juice in general? Also interesting would be none organic Flavor Extract/Concentrates.

In general I personally don't care if it's organic, but I believe that's the only one I've ever used. I used to get it at ecigexpress, but once it got popular, they quit carrying it and added that horrible Flavor Express version instead. So now I get it from Mamaj's. I don't mix for crowds and could never go through the 4 oz size that NF sells. I've tried quite a few NF flavors and don't like many of them, but their ginger is a gem.

Well, I never would have thought to mix this up. Why? I saw all the caramel and butterscotch and shy away from them as well as Brown sugar extra most of the time. I usually find them too sweet.

Darn good thing I have awesome friends here at Vaping Underground! @Teresa P sent me 30 ml. of this because she is awesome. We like to make use of our pretty pink MamaJ's envelopes from @wllmc and re-use them so we randomly send items to one another.

Holy Cow this is some seriously good vaping! Not too sweet & a nice pleasant spiciness. It is truly buttery creamy smoothness. This is wonderful HIC! If anyone likes this, check out Hic's Dulce de Leche Churros at his store.

For personal non-commercial use only.
Please do not repost this outside of vapingunderground.com.

HIC's Speculoos Cookie Butter recipe: Trader Joe's insanely popular cookie butter is modeled on the original Belgian version, Lotus Biscoff Spread. (which is better? Read here.) It starts with caramelized butter spice cookies (my vape version is here), which are dissolved with extra butter and sugar, then blended to spreadable consistency. Like real cookie butter, this vape is caramel-buttery rich (but has no diacetyl/sub ingredients), sweet, spicy, and addictive - definitely worth the required measuring!

1.25% FA Caramel
1% FA Cookie
1% FA Vienna Cream
0.75% FA Cinnamon Ceylon
0.5% TFA acetyl pyrazine (available here)
0.25% TFA Brown Sugar Extra
0.25% TFA Holiday Spice
0.25% FA Clove
0.25% Nature's Flavors Organic Ginger or FA Cardamom *
0.25% FA Vanilla Classic
0.25% FA Marzipan
0.25% FA Butterscotch

This really must sit at least overnight! (okay...sneak a taste, but it'll be richer the next day.)

* If you like Trader Joe's cookie butter, use NF Ginger if possible. Don't fret if you just have Cardamom - it tastes almost the same, just slightly "cooler" with cardamom. If you have neither - the other spice flavors will carry it - no need to increase anything else.

Non-vapers and hungry pets will follow this vapor trail anywhere!
I don't have Fa Clove & my TFA Brown Sugar is not the extra. But I will have every other ingredient. Can I still make this?

The name of TFA Brown Sugar Extra was changed to just Brown Sugar, so you DO have that one!
There's not really a replacement for Clove, but it will be plenty tasty without it. :) If you make it and like it, add Clove to some future shopping list.

I finally got around to around to making this but had nervous twitch and put double the amount of tfa spice. Luckily it mellowed. That is some strong stuff. It is delicious. I can't wait to make it with the correct amounts.

Not sure how I missed this thread, but thanks to @Huckleberried I'm here now!
I'm short a couple of flavors, and have FW Butterscotch, any recommendation on the percentage using it, or would it not be a suitable sub for the FA Butterscotch?

Since I don't DIY yet, someone should make this and send it to me. :D:D:D:D
I'm not going to say DIY is easy, but it is well worth the effort! You can make a 30ml bottle for a dollar or less! The startup costs can be somewhat challenging, but once you have the basics (pg, vg, nic, flavors) it gets cheaper. Find three or four recipes that sound good to you and just buy the flavors to make those to keep the initial cost down. This recipe is complex and not one I would start out with.

Lots of folks here to help you on your way. Ask questions, we'll help you out.

Thanks. I may try DIY somewhere down the road. I've bookmarked a calculator that @AndriaD recommended to me. But yeah, the startup costs are a bit intimidating and my husband is already bitching about how much I've spent on vape stuff. :teehee: So it'll likely be some time before I can get started.

Yeah, some "stuff" does need to be acquired, first, but none of that stuff is very expensive, and can be acquired piecemeal -- that's exactly how I started; a few flavors here, a few bottles there, a few different sized syringes, a qt of PG, a pint of VG, 120ml of nicotine. But you should point out to him that whatever you're currently spending on ejuice, you'll spend 1/10th of that, or even less, once you start making your own. It's an investment in money-savings -- and self-pleasing. :)

And NONE of this is the price of a carton of cigarettes... except maybe a decent-sized bottle of pre-made ejuice.

;)

That's kind of what I planned on doing. Researching what I'll need, getting a few things here and there. Maybe for Mother's Day, instead of something frivolous, getting some supplies. :)

I'd use twice as much FW Butterscotch as a first guess. There are so many other flavors here, I'm sure it'd work just fine.

I mixed this yesterday afternoon and will give it a try after church today. United Airlines gives out Speculoos on morning flights. I don't know how authentic they are, but they are quite tasty. Hint, if you fly on United, unwrap the Speculoos and place it on top of your coffee to warm it up. It's perfectly sized so it won't fall in. Yum!

Ok, I'm gonna mix this up tonight. I ordered FA Cardamom and FLV Ginger. I think I'll try a small batch with each one and see which I like best.

I'm really curious about FLV Ginger given the relative difficulty in obtaining NF Ginger.

Please keep us posted on your impressions.

I recently got Flavorah Ginger. I'm always looking for alternatives to Nature's Flavors Ginger because so few vendors stock it.
Flavorah Ginger is somewhat floral (perfume-like), not an accurate representation of either fresh or dried/powdered spice. IMO it's no replacement for NF Ginger.

I know what a hassle it is to place small orders for flavorings - I really DO - but I promise you NF Ginger is worth it.

Best alternative to NF Ginger that I've found is still Flavor West Ginger, which takes 1.5 - 2x as much, but works pretty well if a recipe just needs a little & especially with other spice flavors present to cover for it.

Well crap, I guess I'm glad I made the cardamom version of this last night. Sounds like I might have wasted my money on the FLV Ginger. Who knows, maybe I'll find a use for it in something.

Hey, HIC. This recipe is quite old now, and maybe TFA didn't release the info back then, but TFA Brown Sugar contains Acetoin and Acetyl Propionyl. You seem fairly conscious about using 'safe' flavourings, I'm just wondering if you still use it now, or if you substitute it what do you use instead? DX Brown Sugar? Jamaican Rum FA (I used this myself for your cocoa cookie recipe, which is delicious btw thanks)?
