Hotcig DX200 (DNA 200) - Wow!

(V1 Vs V2) FWIW, when I got my hotcig, I got it from ecig.com and got the black buttons version (V2). Maybe, though, they had both mixed in their inventory?

Did some looking and couldn't find anyone with the charger in stock. The one that ecig.com was selling was the IMax RC B3 Pro charger, with a 3s extension cable for the hotcig battery. There's lots of people selling that charger on ebay, but you'd have to get the 4 pin extension cable separately if you wanted it. The battery can be plugged directly into the charger. I'm not sure which connection the extension cable would need (would have to measure the pin spacing)
Yep I will be ordering one from ebay. I would rather not charge with the mini usb but I will at least a few times to make sure it's working properly.
I contacted Hotcig about the 2*18650 battery case and the response was if I place an order for 500 of them they would re start production...meh.
Time to put in a product request at Fasttech. I'm hopeful they will see the benefit of being the only retailer with them in stock. Requesting the Black one since it will pretty much go with any of the other colors.

I threw a brick and it landed here

I would highly recommend getting a VT133 if you want a DNA200 chip using 2 x 18650. I have a few of them and also the DX200 with the 2 x 18650 battery compartment. The DX200 is quite a bit bigger and not comfortable at all to use in that configuration. Here's a couple pictures of them side by side. One last thing the DX200 doesn't have reverse battery protection when using the dual 18650's (well the fuse will blow so it does in a way):

I wasn't trying to say there is anything wrong with the DX200, I have one myself. I was just saying it's better/more comfortable to use in it's 3s Lipo configuration (imo). I was also trying to give you what I consider a great option for a DNA200 in dual 18650 mode.

Does the VT133 have reverse polarity battery protection?

That protection isn't provided on the DNA200 board (other than the fuse).

If I did not already have the VT133, I would be buying it as my only DNA. Now, seeing that I have others, the DX200 is a welcomed addition to the family BC it only cost me $55. The battery is NOT good unless you have access to USB charging. It charges really fast!

According to Hcigar it does. On the first page of that thread is a picture showing the reverse battery protection board. I haven't tested it yet though lol.

I got my DX 200 this afternoon! It is indeed the v2 with the black buttons and DX200 printed on the battery. It also was in the package separated from the control head. The battery was at around 50% charge and it is charging through USB right now. I have a balance charger and extender cable ordered and on the way.
Total for the Mod / spare 900mah battery and charger/cable is coming in at just under 85 bucks.
I really need to brush up on e scribe and that part of it now. I'm not the most computer literate person so wish me luck.

Anyone have any luck scoring a 1300mah in US? Apparently FastTech is unable to ship them stateside:(.

I have a DNA200 Releaux and I agree it is 100 times better than any other mod I own! Smoother hits, easy navigation, customizable screens, just an awesome chip! I mean I use some other mods in normal wattage mode, but there is nothing better for Temp Control than a DNA chip.

I could be mistaken but I am pretty sure the DNA133 is a DNA200 with a setting changed to allow it to run on 2 cells instead of 3. I do not believe it is any different than the DNA200 which would mean that it DOES NOT have reverse battery protection. I would be careful not to put the batteries in wrong, you might fry it. (Not sure though)

The VT133 has a daughter board that provides reverse polarity protection. It's the same DNA200 main board, it just also has a daughter board. It's pictured here.

What??? I've bought mods with Lipos from FT before and batteries. That seems really strange. I wonder when that happened?

Cheers,
Steve

Edit I just loaded it into my cart and I don't see any shipping option come up either. Did you open a ticket to ask them about it? If you haven't, I would.

It'll take about a month to get it, but gearbest has 'em and will ship 'em to the U.S. (via Europe) http://www.gearbest.com/accessories/pp_305899.html Red is $30.62 (for the next 4 1/2 hrs), white and black are $50 ea.
The downside to that battery (in case you, or anyone else, don't know) is that every time you switch between it and the 900mah, you have to go into escribe, change the battery config., and upload the change to your hotcig. Not a huge deal, but something to be aware of.

This seems to only apply to the batteries by themselves. Added a DNA lipo unit and it was fine. But a lipo battery all the US options stated that they can't ship battery cells through that option.

It's because of new(ish) U.S. rules regarding lithium batteries and air transit. You can still send batteries under a certain size through airmail, but it seems that pretty much any lithium battery airmail from china is a no-go.

Yeah. This a bummer. They said that will let me know when they are able to ship these batteries stateside. Definitely weird. They also happen to have the best price for these in white. The saga continues with the DX Steve. Great mod, but not worth using far from a power source with the 900mah batt .

Thanks for the tip, of I decide to go with the red, against my white DX I might just cave and buy it from GB.

It's now back up to $50. That sale price was last night. Sorry you didn't see it sooner

I went with red (my unit is black) so that way I wont get confused and will have a strong visual reminder that it's different and thus requires me to go into escribe. I got mine awhile back, so I paid the $50 :(

You really don't need to change settings. The only thing off would be your battery bar/meter. If your going from 3 cells to 2 then you have to make changes.

So only the meter would be off, but it'd still allow the longer use? Good to know. Thanks. I figured they were tied to one another and thus it'd end shutting down the 1300mah early.

For those that might want/need it - here's chart that comes with the various spare batteries

What kind of battery life does the 900mah give?

It seems like even the 1300mah would be brutally short..

I get a day's useage out of mine. I, too, thought the same thing since a 900mah eGo battery doesn't last very long at all. I'm not chain vaping, though, since I'm using a really high nic level (16mg - 20mg). I guess since it's 11.1V, it offsets the low mah?

Yes it goes by the Soft Cell Cutoff or Evolv's Hard Cell Cutoff (whichever is higher). I believe the Hard Cell Cutoff is 2.8v. I wouldn't set my soft-cell cutoff lower than the 3.09v it comes at using a 3s Lipo though. With 18650's I don't see a problem lowering it. I have my VT133 set to 2.9c and I'm thinking about lowering it to 2.8v.

Cheers,
Steve

Edit I wanted to add the voltmeter would be off but I believe it works with discharge curve in conjunction with the watt hours. What I'm saying is when it's at rest at some point the chip looks at the cells voltage and then looks at the curve and adjusts your battery bar.

Good to know. Thanks. Since I tend to not pay much attention to the meter (except when I'm getting ready to leave the house) I guess I won't worry about loading up the software when swapping batteries. Appreciate it

Yes and no on the 11.1. If you have the VT133 with 2 VTC5's. You don't have a 5000mah device. You have a 2500mah device at 7.4v. All the DNA 200 Lipos are 3 cell batteries, each basically 900mah at 3.7v. Mah is the single best unit of measurement for similar batteries with similar voltages. But since the number is measured at max voltage a battery measured at 3.7 volts is always going to look better than one at 11.1.

Wh is probably the best measure of a devices power when viewing dissimilar batteries. A 900 Mah 3c LiPo is probably going to compare well to single 18650 mod with an HG2 in it at low wattages, but instead of being capped at ~80w and that for only a small portion of the batteries discharge the LiPo is good for 200 till it is cut off. I have a 2000mah LiPo device coming in, that is going to be like have 3 VTC4's in it.

All of my other DNA's are a bit on the nicer side. So I saw a decent deal on what looked like a tank (the Panzer oddly looks like a toy) that wasn't too large with a multi-day battery that I could use as anywhere device. Like if I was going camping (I mean I wouldn't, but in theory a multiday lipo DNA200 device would be perfect for that).

I could see it being the perfect all day device. Put a Boreas completely topped off on top of it. Not only would it look pretty good (no overhang) but it could last all day.

Indeed. I'm in the same boat. I need just one All Day DNA that I would not be concerned about wear! Loving what I've seen so far about the Modcrate. Debating about whether to strip the guts of this DX200 and get a enclosure, add a huge LiPo or just get a full Modcrate. The latter does not resolve my problem with DX though

Ha ha Steve...that's because you have 30 of them :) . It's a weird phenomenon and admittedly psychological but I have just one VT133 and although it's not pampered, there are some trips that I would prefer to take a mod that I care a bit less about damaging. I vape at or slightly above 50W, I don't get a true full day out of the 133 when I am not rotating devices. Plus, I've got this issue with the DX...might as well make the biggest baddest DNA possible since I can't score a reasonably priced/capacity batt for it.

That's my thinking/ more like rationale around it

First off I'm
SmileyROFLMAO.gif

at the "That's because I have 30 of them" quote. Secondly, I totally understand what your saying. Before getting them my DX200 with the dual 18650 battery compartment was my take outside, beater (for lack of a better term) mod. Once I got the VT133's I just don't want to grab the DX200 in that configuration (just to big and boxy). I guess if I thought it was really going to get beat up I'd take it (maybe fishing trip on the Great Lakes lol).

Cheers,
Steve

Edit Just to be clear, I don't consider the VT133's beater mods. It's just that they last a lot longer than my 3s Lipo 900mah mods with 2 x LG HG2's in them. They also are very solid. Just hard not to grab one of them, basically most of the time.

Ha Ha.. i knew you would get a kick out of that....but really You have like 20, right? I am only kidding.

I can picture ya now on the lake with one of your 20 DNA's. If one got hurt or fell off into the lake, you could just rest in knowing that you have another 19 to go :)

I was thinking about buying one but I really like the size of the mod with the 900mAh so going to go with what I have.
If a dual 18650 battery sled shows up for sale anywhere...let me know! Thanks.

They're still available at fastech as well, list price is $50, but coupon code MAP gets 27% off, so it's $36.78 after discount. No idea how many they have.....

Will fast tech ship those to the US? Last week people noticed that any batteries not already in a mod couldn't be shipped through them.

Nice to see the 1300 back down to $30 again.

I was at ecig.com (they have the noisy cricket for $5

and noticed that they have both the black and the white 900mah batteries for $19.99. Not a bad price, especially if don't want to wait a month for the $30 1300mah battery from gearbest.
