I personally goto smoking areas in theme parks and at work and anywhere smoking is prohibited. This is due to my want to keep vaping as being something people don't hate because arrogant vapers blow clouds everywhere. It also gives me an opportunity to socialize with smokers.
I am somewhat charismatic and enjoy telling people about vaping. Sometimes I come off a little preachy but that is due to my enthusiasm which I try to curtail.
Most times I wait for them to ask about my setup or ask them if it bothers them (wind blows their way and even smokers panic because of fear mongering). I explain what it is, what's in the liquid, and how to get started. I typically carry egos for that reason. Small rechargeable ego vv one with a good menthol and one with a good tobacco both I make. I ask them what they smoke or notice what they are smoking and ask if they want to try it. If they say yes I hand them their preference and explain the device in depth. They typically take a puff or so and say that's not bad taste better than a cigarette. I then say if you want to switch keep it and hand them a bottle of the liquid and the charger. If they accept I show them how to fill it tell them that having another battery is a good idea and more clearomizers for other flavors and just in case this one dies. Most are greatful and extinguish their cigarette which was just burning away anyway.
Most times once one sees it the others kind of come in for a closer look. Smokers tend to trust other smokers and not vapers(even tho I am an ex smoker).
I bought 200 ego blister packs a few years ago 2011 maybe 2012. In hopes to sell them to friends and family at cost $1.15 and not have a smoke shop charge $40 for them. Smoke shops and gas stations are the only places that sold them then. Since then I have given about half away.
Typically carrying 3 menthol and 3 tobacco when I go to a place like an amusement park. I make the liquid and for 15mls it's maybe $.50 so it's not a big deal to give them an ego and some 12mg/ml liquid. I tell them that if the find themselves chain vaping to purchase liquid with a higher strength. If they get a nicotine buzz similar to smoking a cigarette really fast then buy lower. Some people have asked for me to make them liquid and they would buy it because it tastes better than others they tried. I don't sell because I am afraid to with liability and taxes but I do offer to show them how to make it.
Alot of times I am answering emails and phone calls about how to get more vapor or should I buy a new device or I went back to smoking how do I quit again. I typically answer as fast as possible and try to be there for them.
Recently alot of people I tell that I do this think I'm crazy but I honestly think that I am doing a good thing. I guess I open myself up for liability by giving juice away but I don't think it's that big of a risk and most people move away from the ego in 6 months so they don't burn up or blow up. I do warn them to make sure they never charge them from a laptop or car. Use a standard wall adapter and not a fast charger.
What do you guys think? Am I opening myself up? How do you get smokers converted? How do you talk to smokers?
