The ending of X-Men: Days of Future Past was not always how it was shown on screen. During my visit to the set of X-Men: Apocalypse with a small group of press, director/writer Bryan Singer revealed that James Cameron had a small yet significant impact on the final resolution.

At the end of the movie, Wolverine wakes up in present day to see a “happy ending” where everything is back to normal at the X-mansion and characters we saw die like Jean Grey and Cyclops are alive and well.
Because the movie deals with time travel, Singer sought Cameron out for advice because his experience with time travel in the Terminator movies. Singer sent Cameron a rough cut of the movie and received one key note in response.
