how many wraps of 26g kanthal can you fit on a 22 millimeter rda

I just got a velocity v2 and I was wondering how many wraps I could fit in the rda and what the resistance of the wraps would be thanks!

As far as "how many will fit", I judge the maximum number of wraps that will fit by measuring from the center of one post to the other (or right edge of one post to right edge of the other)

Wrap the coil until it looks to be that size and put the coil-side (rather than the leg side) up to the posts. If it is bigger than this, it will likely cause shorting problems and also just not sit right. Smaller than this is absolutely no problem, however.

Do you have an ohm meter? Should have one to build, but becomes even more important if you are trying to cram the atty with the maximum amount of wire that will fit. Check for shorts after the atty is built and fully assembled.

As far as resistance, steam-engine.org as suggested by @Valkyrie above.

Why would you want the maximum amount of wraps? That would just lead to a slow response coil.
I agree...

If you want higher resistance you will get better performance with smaller wire.

I find builds work best when built between 5 and 10 wraps. Anytime I'm less than 5 wraps I look to thicker wire or para/twisted. Above 10 wraps I go smaller on the wire. Of course the flavor might be better on the big slow build.. but you would have to toss a lot of extra wattage at it to get the performance.

I'm under the assumption that this is not intended for a high wattage build.

Thick/thin wire, simple/complex build keeping within 5-10 will give the best results.

I like doing 5 to 6 wraps with my Mage GTA and my Griffin RTA. It takes one puff before it heats up enough for a good hit but that's all. I'm using 24ga/30ga Clapton wire at 2.5 mm ID.

Another factor to consider is what inside diameter you're wrapping on. The bigger you go with this the less room you'll have in finished coil length.

As has been said already, Steam Engine will give you a very accurate estimate of coil resistance. Generally the higher the resistance the thinner your wire wants to be. Also, keep in mind that with dual coils the final resistance is half of each coil.

As for how much you can physically fit, @BKTOAD pretty much covered that.

Finally, I've never gone higher than around 8 or 9 wraps, though people have gone way higher successfully. These days I'm typically between 4 - 7.

Good luck with it.
