How the meaning of words have changed.

On another thread the question was asked about the meaning of a word:
"Please forgive an old man. Does "hack" mean acquire the means to change a device, or simply change it's parameters of use?" (The discussion was about how to modify the sx330 v3 chip to go up to 100watts)

And so as I sought to answer the polite question I thought about how the meaning of words have changed over the years. I jokingly said we should start a thread and get folks to add to it.

SO.. I will start with a couple...

I once heard an old guy describing an embarrassing mistake he made. He said and I quote, "Boy I sure pulled a boner!" (I about fell out and wet myself.)

"Bad" used to be bad. Now it is good.

"Sick" used to be unhealthy, now it is actually awesome

Fat (actually Phat) doesn't mean overweight.

I guess the elephant in the room would be the word "gay". No offence to our alternative life style friends here, but the word had the original meaning of being happy and joyful prior to referring to...... well, you get the point.

Well, the misuse of the word "literally" just kills me inside. Then a buncha dictionaries went and edited the definition to basically say that misuse is ok.

I will literally never be ok with that word being used incorrectly. I don't care if that makes me a grumpy old lady. You can figuratively stay off my lawn.

Alright Celtic Foggy Brain! That's enough, damn it! A FORUM is a place for the entertainment of watching others argue! Do I have to correct you on every thread? (People get your popcorn out!) Hehe....Brahhahahah...snort...hehe

Do you smoke? Used to mean Do you smoke cigarettes.
In a LOT of places on the East Coast Do you smoke? Either means smoke weed or crack depending on who is asking you and where you are while being asked.

That's just kind of goofy if you ask me.

P.S. I'm the one that made the 'hack' comment to help start this thread. :p
I should have asked "I wonder when someone will crack this thing to make it go up to 100watts? But 99 out of 100 people would have thought I wanted to break my mod!:)

BTW Check out the new SX330 V2.5 60watt chip: http://www.yihiecigar.com/products_info/YiHiEcigar-SX330-V2-S-60W-277372.html

I need a fag means something entirely different in the uk

Honestly the wannabe gangster losers in my old neighborhood in Baltimore used the term 'fag' for cigarette too.
I always thought it was kind of strange because it was only that one group of teens and they all just had to hang out at the house directly in front of mine.
It sounded more like 'fug' or 'fog' when they said it though.

Well I deliberately don't use the word fag on here bc it'll probably be misinterpreted. But it's as commonly used in the uk as cigs or ciggy or puff
