How to know when battery is flat?

Hi people, bit new to mods.

On my sigelei, it shows the battery as mostly full, till I take a hit, it then shows empty, till I finish the hit, then it shows near full again.

I am a bit confused, does the battery need charging now, or when it is showing flat in standby?

No, it's showing battery rebound. When you use the battery, the battery will supply the needed current, and then rebound. The mod will tell you "low batt" or some message like that in the user manual when it needs to be charged. The mod monitors the battery voltage and current and shows it real time in the display, battery rebound and all.

If it's sagging all the way down to almost empty every time you hit the button though it sounds like the battery is either underpowered for the task or having other issues.

I agree with Stonedpenguin. Are you using at least a 20amp battery. I would suggest grabbing some samsung 25r batteries they are $5 or 6 each and great batteries.

FYI - when you ask questions, it is a good idea to include a little more information to figure out what is going on.
Tell us battery specs, what mod output is set for, and the load (ohms of coil).
From that we can crunch numbers.

But I'll give you an analogy.
Sitting in your car, if you put on your headlights, fan on high, and then go start your car, the bulbs dim because of the amp load of the starter.
If the car doesn't start, and you're not using the starter, the load is gone, the bulbs brighten back up.
If they don't come back, you know you have an issue with the battery.

Recall that you are running off of a battery. A chemical reaction produces the current.
The energy is not instantly available. There will be lag in the conversion.
Some batteries will have more energy available than others.
That's what the amp rating on a battery is.
It is going to behave differently than an appliance plugged into the wall.

If you didnt charge the battery fully after receiving it, this is more than likely your issue..Batteries are not sent fully charged as its not good for the battery while sitting in stock..Fully charge it and try it again..I have the same sigelei mini 30 and when fully charged it will not show the battery bar dropping to empty untill its almost halfway dead which is more than likely the case with yours.

Charge every new battery you receive before using it.

Just reread your post and it said mostly full. Do you mean like 3/4. If that's the case it is normal for it under a load to drop. It's also the time I charge my batteries.

How did you notice this was happening? I can't see my screen without looking in the mirror while vaping. Looks like mine drops to around 25% during a toke. Or would that be 75% since mirror images are backwards LOL

The lower the battery bar shows battery life while NOT firing ,the lower you will notice it drop when you fire it...there will be a point where it still shows battery life full but does start to drop (when firing)...on a freshly charged battery you wont even see a drop to be honest untill voltage starts dropping....Then it drops a little and a little more and more etc...

My sig will say my batteries are at 30% but when i go to take a hit at say 60 watts, the voltage will drop low enough to trigger the low battery notice. These are 25r from lightning vapes that arent more than 5 months old...

Charge them. I never go below 50%. Don't like to strain the batteries.

I go just under 50 percent on the gauge before swapping in a new battery.

50% is like 3.7v or so. You're not going to damage batteries by discharging them to their nominal charge, and any half decent device will cut out far before it hits the minimum discharge limit for modern batteries.

I am using a samsung 25R. We was talking around 3/4 to half full. My device tells me low battery when its low, so was just a newbie question that I now know the answer too .
