So I made my first 24g kanthal coil today. I did 7 wraps on a 3 mm ID at 0.7 ohms. Using Steam and vaping at similar temps to the 26g 1.2 (2.5 mm ID at 10 wraps) coil I normally use, the 24g seems hotter. Is this normal? Does it have to do with it having a larger ID or the wire being larger? It vapes nice. I definitely get more cloud. Flavor is similar but I do think the 26g is a little better, but not by much. I did not do dual coils with the 24g and have never done duals with the 26g.

I did this in preparation for the mechanical mod I bought.

The 24g is not dry hitting or spitting.

You're not trying these in some mod's TC mode are you?

You don't mention what wattages you're running. Take both build's specs back to Steam Engine and compare what the heat flux capability of each is, compared to what the heat generated is at whatever power you're using for each.

No TC. I used steam for watts to run them for similar temps. The 26g is 23 watts and the 24g is 28 watts. I am using a Sig 150 box mod. I used heat flux to adjust the watts on the Sig for temps. Isn't that what it is for? I thought I did that.

The 26g is 170 degrees. The 24g is 177 degrees. I tried 24g up 221 degrees. I have never gone higher than that. Is there a reason?

Not "degrees"... but it is "heat" as it were, the warmth of the vape, as you surmised.


Generally, I think many of us are shooting for 300 or so, higher sometimes even.
How are you discerning a difference between 170 and 177 mW/mm2? :p

That's good info.

It just felt different. I will try higher as long as the juice holds up.

At the beginning, it's try and error. In my RDAs, I mainly use dual coil 24g 7/6 wraps w/ 3mm ID which comes out at around 0.3 Ohm. However, that's my preference for using them on my mech mods. Most of my RBAs are 26g 2.5mm ID at 0.5 Ohm. On my Billow V2 though I'll go with a 24g dual coil like in my RDAs. Currently I'm using the factory build coils, which are 0.3 Ohm.

Why 24g on the billow? Is it strictly for vapor production?

You use a 3mm on the Billow? How many wraps for the 24g. Pretty tight in there.

Got it. You use 24g on a 2.5 mm at 0.3. I have to redo mine. I may try that. I have 2.5 26g at 0.6. It is okay, Wicking an issue. I may work on that first then try the 24g.

Yes, the wicking is slightly tricky, but way easier than on the Goblin.
