Hey guys so I have been vaping for a while now and I have been fully infected with the mod bug rda bug etc etc, so now you guessed it I'm ready to DIY juices!!

First off I do my research again and again and again, but as usual we all have questions.

I'm getting mixed reviews on PG VG based nicotine, some say they use PG only some say VG only whats the deal here? From what I have been reading PG seems to be the norm but.....

Safety first I know and will embrace it to the fullest of course:)

I was also looking at supplies needed and I have a couple sites bookmarked with some kits BUT do I really need all this stuff? I mean I'm going to start small and see where it takes me after I have some more experience with the DIY.

I'm not looking for a complete tutorial with this thread maybe just a couple tips and tricks for just starting out??

Of course I'm going to search until my heart is content and find everything I need cause the underground rocks but I guess this will be my starting out thread and progress with flavors and such.

Anywhoo can't wait to order some stuff and get going I'm getting excited:)

Thanks in advance,

Disco.

Theres different ratios folks use of both...for example 70Vg/30Pg, 50/50, some are all VG and so on, everyone is different on what vapes for them the way they like it.
Great to have you here at VU, welcome to the forum.

vg will bring clouds and has a little sweetness but it is very thick and it mutes the flavor a but. PG is thinner and wicks easier. Some people have reactions to PG. Pg is a little harsher and brings a little throat hit. Finding the balance of what you like is personal. I prefer 50/50 and 60vg/40 pg but im a flavor chaser and care about big clouds.

Welcome
Your pg vg % determines your need
I vape 70 pg 30 vg e-liquid, I buy my nicotine in pg because of this. Yours may be different.
I see no concerns using either base for your nicotine.
Go slow and have fun.

I was looking at the sites to order from and I have the option to order PG based or VG based nic in the dropdown that was what I was confused about, I seem to be liking 70/30 but 50/50 seems fine also. I think 50/50 from what I have been reading is easier for measurement when first starting.

^^^^^thank you, posted while I was replying:)

As you can see I have gone a little wacky with juices, well and everything else...this is the reason I'm looking to start doing my own:) But I'm not smoking so I really don't mind getting this bug.

Thanks man:) Started with one shelf and it has multiplied from there....I have my garage kinda converted into our living room heated and cooled but man its so great to be able to vape and geek out without having to go outside to smoke. My lady thinks I'm nuts but she has since started vaping and building with me so it's a wonderful win win now:)

I generally order pg based nic, but again, I vape 50/50 or 60vg/40 pg. but for me, it makes it easier. I always know exactly how much vg i need. so if im making a 10ml bottle, then I need 5ml vg and the other 5ml is my pg and flavors.

Depending on what nic level youre vaping, buy either 100mg or 36mg base. 100mg is cheaper in the long run because you use very little on each recipe., but take even more precautions when handling 100mg base.

My receipts for anything vape-related are in their own file in my filing cabinet - atties, batteries, mods, tanks, flavors, fluids, etc. - I'm afraid to add them all up for the grand total of what an addict I've truly become....lol!
Does it really matter? No. Will I stop? Heh heh....no. Am I totally obsessed and lovin' it?
YEAH BABY!!!! :D:D:D

I started to DIY because I was sensitive to PG, and there isn't a juice company that really caters to us that are PG sensitive...high VG juices are tailored to cloud chasers..I only vape gennys...and am a flavor chaser.....so I started DIY to tailor a juice to my tastes and sensitivity, also because there are so so so many hack motherf**kers out there who are just looking to make a buck off vaping, and have the palatte and gastrinomical exposure of a chucky cheese customers.....coming up with cool labels, ridiculous names for their juice and ......high price tags.
Just tailor a juice to your needs, and tastes.....jump in and get wet.

Been all over this section of the forums all day, learning a lot:) I think I want to start to duplicate my go to's at this time so I can quit buying at the vape shop, then I will get into more complex different flavors and mess around...thanks for all the info so far everyone!!!!!

Man the more I get into it the more I don't go to the shop, I love the guys at the local shop but man could they charge us anymore for this stuff!!!! You look at the cost of stuff and compare it to the netz its fricken robbery in my book. But you pay for convenience these days and I guess if I need something its always 5 minutes up the street:)

And just a quick question to throw in here, so my new favorite juice is from the cyber juice line called vader, I don't know if any of you guys have vaped it but man this stuff is so good I ration it like it was crack.

from the site:

Vader is a cookie dough concoction with a vanilla custard base with hints of milk, maple and hazelnut. This is so good it will make you want to go to the darkside.

this is a 60vg 40 pg mixture.

As I was saying earlier I want to try to duplicate my go to's first, any idea of where to start on this flavor??

I'd have to think that Capella's Vanilla Custard would be in that. Bull City Vapor carries Caps, as does ecigexpress and EliquidMart.

I've never had that juice, so it's hard to say which manufacturer the flavorings are. I can tell you that FA (FlavourArt) carries a great, true Maple flavor, and a really good Hazelnut, too. Many people like the FW (Flavor West) Hazelnut. TFA has a milk flavor, maybe they call it dairy? I can't recall.. FA carries "Fresh Cream", which is really good, too. FA Cookie!! I love that flavor, but it tastes like a baked cookie, not dough. Awesome cookie flavor. Love it.

Sounds like a good vape.

Do a search here in diy recipes. Lots of good mixers. I prefer HIC recipes. Most of them use exclusively flavourart flavors. I like that flavoring the best and you don't need much of it either. HIC has a great pallet and I haven't tried one bad recipe

There is a loud POP and YardByrd suddenly appears, levitating in mid air, wings spread, the platinum medallion around his neck is glowing green. You hear a deep, smooth, male, Latin, voice translating all his utterances except his greeting and farewell:

CAW! "Greetings Discobob! Salutations from across the Realms to you and my Realm traveling brethren. I pop in, tonight, to offer a little feedback on your OP! If you want the largest range of PG/VG ratios and nicotine levels, in case you mix for anyone else or just want the variety, a pre-mix can limit those choices. I, personally, get all my Nic in PG; I like the idea of Nic in VG but it can be harder to handle. I suggest you get higher quality, USP, Kosher VG instead of buying from a drugstore or big box store.

I see no mention of finding a good E-Liquid Calculator program and suggest you get one or look into it if you haven't. I record EVERYTHING. I have a hard copy of each recipe, after making sure it computes in my E-liquid calculator, before I mix. Each recipe is recorded in a text file. If you are going to start small you won't be using a scale. I suggest several syringes in varying sizes and mixing by %. I learned the hard way; do not mix using bottle dropper drops unless you are doing so by weight on a good digital scale. I have those hard copies of my mixing session recipes close at hand when I mix so I can record any changes. Remember if you don't have good notes and happen to create your end all, special, mix and haven't recorded it recreating may be daunting. I could go on but I feel these points are enough to give you food for thought!" CAW!

There is another pronounced POP and YardByrd vanishes.

Lots of good advice so far. Two videos I liked to show the difference between mixing by weight or volume.

For weight:

For Volume:

I think if you are going to mix a lot of juice or don't like cleaning up - weight might be the way to go - but check it out for yourself.
Cheers

That was pretty good man, I did start hearing the deep Latin voice......lmfao:)

I do have a couple calculators saved I have been toying with today, I have a tinge of OCD so the most precise measuring will be my route, I would imagine there is a million ways to do it wrong and 1 way to do it right just like anything.

Just going through sites right now and seeing what will be a kinda one stop shop to limit shipping costs and such, but that's all part of the fun is learning!!

The distant sound of waves caressing a shore is heard and YardByrd suddenly materializes seated on his faithful Realm traveling perch; it is brown and plain wood with a bevel cut on 1/4 of the "T" and is seated on the floor of the "I'm new I don't know what to do:)" thread with YardByrd atop it. The platinum YB medallion around his neck is glowing amber and you hear a deep, smooth, Male, Latin voice translating for him:

CAW! Salutations from across the Realms! I'm ba-aack! :D I realized that a recent post I made, in another thread, may help you. I have a post, with links, as the next to the last one. There are a lot of good links re: DIY suppliers, and sound advice (IMHBO), in a short space here. I hope this further assists you." CAW!

The sound of old dry leaves being wind blown over grass, and the laughter of small children is heard, and as it fades away so does YardByrd and his faithful Realm traveling perch.

Ecigexpress had vg,pg and flavors. I highly suggest FLavourart.

You can get bottles from them or if you want glass, I get mine on Amazon and pay about $6 for 12. I prefer glass because it's easier to clean them and mix and entirely new flavor without having to worry about left over smell and taste

Someone may have said this already, but its the most important part of finding the pg/vg ratio for you.
If you use certain tanks, you are absolutely tied to using a thinner juice. If you are dripping its easy, personal preference.
In a kayfun, anything much higher than 50/50 will not wick well. Small juice channels need thin juice to work properly.
Something like an orchid with 4 big juice channels will work with much thicker juices.
For my Lemo2, I find that 60vg/40pg works best. It has two juice channels like the kayfun, but they are a bit bigger.
Im pretty sure most sub ohm tanks like a subtank or atlantis will work with thick high vg juices when using their pre build coil heads.
I make three different thicknesses for the different tanks I use.

So here I am again and Hovering over the place order tab at vaperstek, I usually drip and have sub ohm tanks so I have not had an issue with 70vg30 pg or 60/40 so this is where I think I will stay, so safe to order in VG based nic?? even if I do a 50 50 will this still be ok?? I do not see myself going under a 50/50 mix it will be that or higher with the VG...

so the other question I have is what exactly makes premium LIQUIDS premium? House LIQUIDS from my vape shop just seem to be less smooth but this might be me being weird. Reason I'm asking is I was going to order 1 liter of vg 18.00 one liter of pg 18.00 and I might as well order the 450 ml of nic all from vaperstek, I know the nic will outlast the pg vg but I see vg pg for a bit less on other sites but will I notice a difference?? Is this what makes premiums better or have I been brainwashed in the premium scene:)

I've gotten good results with PG and VG from Vaperstek and Bull City Vapor. I'm told that they both use Essential Depot brand. I've had PG from ECX and I don't recall any major issues, also from RTS (VG). Wizard Labs.... didn't care for theirs. Harsh stuff when I used it. Didn't buy more.

There is no oil....unless your vaping an illegal substance....the key to great cooking is ingredents the best and freshest you can get...quality makes a huge diffrence...or course a lousy cook can ruin the best ingredents.but quality matters IMHO.

Welcome. I agree with most of what has been said above. You might want to skim through the Flavour arts club if you have the time. It is a great resource of info on DIYing. It is Flavour Arts oriented, but most of the info on mixing discussed in detail.

FYI, . I don't care much about clouds, just flavor and use 50/50 pg/vg. I make a 6mg nic base and add that to my flavors. My flavors are all kept in a standardized bottle and nipple that measures to 33 drops per ml. This makes things simple. For larger quantities I use graduated cylinders.

You're going to enjoy this and be able to vape what you want.

450ml of nic base? What mg strength are you looking to make and what strength is the nic base?

You might want to look into a smaller amount to start. 100 ml of 100mg nic base will make over 1600ml of juice at 6mg strength

Alright just ordered some nic pg and vg now it's on to the flavors and supplies oh booooy!!!:)

Looking at some cylinders, funnels, bottles etc and the flaves I'm just trying to compile which ones I need to get started should put in those orders tonight unless I get a shy trigger finger like I did yesterday...

personally, I just mix in my bottles. I prefer glass bottles because they are easier to clean and change flavors. just rinse them out, put them in a pot of simmering water and they're all sterilized and ready for the next batch. You can get them pretty cheap on amazon, just make sure you buy ones that have glass droppers (they're only about $1 more per dozen. Then all you need is some syringes to add flavors, pg,vg and vg. get some 1ml syringes (you can get 100 for $8 on amazon), a few 2.5ml and some 10ml and 25ml ones. If you are trying complex recipes that you find from good mixers on here, you can make a batch of flavor for a recipe and then just add it to vg/pg/nic. for example. my favorite recipe is HIC lemon meringue pie. It has 8 flavor ingredients and 4 of them are at .5%. to make 15ml of this juice requires such precise measurements that make it almost impossible to be accurate. So what I do is make a 5-10ml concentrate batch of just the flavors. then write on the bottle (lemon Meringue pie, use 7%) Then, when I want to make a 10ml bottle, I know I need .7ml of flavor and 9.3 ml of my vg/pg/nic.

Hope I made sense.

Best suggestion I can give you is try recipes some of the good mixers have posted before you start your own complex recipies. This will give you a good starting point for mixing and you begin to realize about how much of flavors you need. As I said, I like Flavourart flavors. HIC (head in clouds) has lots of recipes posted on this forum for FA flavors

Oh yea my lady is gonna make me up a sweet spreadsheet for all the ingredients of testers, gonna start out slow but I figured I'm all in at this point so I wanted a plethora of options and I think I got them.....I hope. I'm a dessert sweet kinda guy so I got a lot for that but I also got some fruits to try with the cremes.. I probably got some stuff I shouldn't have but you can always try it, bull city shipped already waiting for tracking on vaperstek and Amazon nothing yet as most were from different suppliers. I think bull city is a concrete thing after reading on some members that have ordered from them but I will be looking at more of a 1 stop shop as I go but ordering from 2 or 3 good suppliers isn't bad I'm just thinking of shipping....

Got some stuff yesterday yay......but fricken amazon is killing me!!! remind me to never order from amazon again, I knew I would be held up by amazon and there stupid shipping from multiple places holdups, aggravating to say the least if you don't have prime or don't pay for two day shipping it's drag feet time a week and a half later....anyway that's my rant just waiting for all my supplies to start mixin it up:)

its killing me though I almost just want to start improvising but I will not, I'm gonna wait and get everything dialed in:)

Anyway that's all I got for now, thanks for all the help so far guys!!! Have a good weekend.

Bottles, cylinders, syringes most everything I think I need you know probably some stuff I don't need:) I'm tempted to take some crappy juices I have and ditch them for bottles and start playing around with some stuff but you know its a first time thing I guess I like having ducks in a row....I guess. After I ordered from amazon I realized I could have got most all I needed from bull city I think but this was after the fact, I was in a rush and I shouldn't have been..

I saved up a bunch of vendor bottles, washed 'em and re-used 'em. Yep. When I make sample mixes, I use drops for flavoring, but you do wanna measure your nic properly, so... yeah, I suppose you need to wait for your syringes.
