When delving into dungeons in games, I often have to ask “Who is the one tending to all the torches and candles that light my path in these forgotten tombs?” In Ashen, however, the answer to that question is simply: No one. And if you aren’t managing what little illumination you bring with you - you’ll be dead before you know what hit you.
In the demo I played, I moved from the muted and overcast woodlands teeming with bandits to a large stone door where a companion awaited me. Finding a friend you can trust in these wilds is a key factor of Ashen. Without the two of us working together, that door would not be opening. Inside were claustrophobic tunnels leading deeper underground, and it was there I quickly learned that teamwork was not only helpful - it was essential.
