Cube or rectangular block magnets probably would have looked better, but these 9/16" x 3/16" disc magnets were all I could get at Lowe's (didn't want to wait for shipping).

The key is finding the right thickness - 3/16" does the trick. Otherwise, you'd end up stacking magnets, or there would be too much of a gap between the cover and the body if the magnets were too thick.

I'll pop the cherry on your post. Looks good @moecat. Gotta stress - it makes all the difference in the world having a magnet fitted back cover rather than screws. I've seen a lot of modboxes recently and they're all screwed. What is someone supposed to do if their battery goes into thermal runaway or something goes wrong inside and you gotta get the battery out fast!?

From what I understand, the upcoming Cloupor T6 and T8 will have magnets in their back covers, not screws.

The Sigelei 50w has a rotating/sliding cover where there are magnets at the bottom. However, these for some reason are weak, and the cover actually can open too easily.

Saw the vaping Greek's sigelie 50w box review. I Couldn't see a magnet on the sliding cover

@Hobby Kid - Right. Mine started smoking and I wasn't sure whether it was the battery or the board, so I just took the whole thing and brought it outside. After the smoking stopped, that's when I took a screwdriver to carefully open it up - turned out to be the board, but it would have been a whole lot easier and safer it there were magnets instead of screws.

theres a common issue with the cloned dna's firing system. Members in the past have suggested it's the fire button. But it's the board. On the board it has a build in fire button. If you use that if you're having issues with the tactile button eventually the onboard button outputs the same related issues. If you listen carefully you'll hear the board make a sound that resembles a click. I think that's an electric sounding click. It's a cheap cloned dna isn't it. Fasttech do an authentic Vamo v5 board up to 15watt max output 5amps for $11. It fits and is a reliable and cheap replacement which a few friends of mine have used (with better buttons too) and revived their blown redundant canas.

How well does it fit?

I ordered one of those boards a while back, thinking I'd like to do a simple wood box mod. It's still in the package.

Maybe it's time to order one of those aluminum shells...

It fits, just. I sent some vamo modules to a UK modder who's just learning and he sent this pic back a week later (that's a 16mm anti-vandal switch btw). the screen and button connections will be on the other side

Lol. Damn, that switch looks HUGE in that shell.

That's cool though, good to know it fits. I'm not sure why I'd spend another $20+ in order to stuff a $12 vamo module into a box like that, but sometimes I just don't need a good reason. :)

Thanks for the info!

he used a fasttech cana box which had a blown dna.
yeah those buttons are way too big. got some nice 12mm one's on the way the same as those switches. it's a bit hard to say for sure what the ratings of those buttons are as they rate them in AC but that 16mm is 25amp so i'm guessing the 12mm's are pushing 15amps

I think I'd still prefer some kind of thumbscrews so that i'm not sticking magnets in there, but it may be hard to find at that small screw size. May just end up following your lead.
