The SS mode in the IPV5 is the 304 and i think the SS in the herakles is 316? does that matter? Also, to confirm..you can run TC on SS coils?

I want to say you can but, I'm not 100% for sure. Maybe someone else can field this one. I haven't ventured out of Ni200 building coils just yet.

hey bud, so starting to play around with tc on the 5 and I have to admit I have no idea what to set my joules at... I am gonna start by using the .15ni coil for the crown. Any insight? Also is there a way to lock the coil resistance? Again, the user manual is not all that helpful... :(

Once you have the coil mounted, try pressing the "+" and "-" buttons at the same time. See if that works.

that goes into set resistance. I put it at .15 as that's what the coil is supposed to be...although it has read at .16-7 on my other mods... I am assuming that setting it there is locking it, but not for certain.

You can set custom TCR values on the IPV5 but I haven't really gotten into it, the TCR value of 316 is .00092 and 304 is .00105 so there is a difference. I just normally lower the temperature when running a 316 coil on my IPV5 which is set up for 304. I like a cooler vape but fast ramp up so for my Herk Plus I normally run 450 degrees at about 45 to 50 watts on the Stout in it's SS316 setting. With the IPV5 with the same tank and coil I think it's around 300 degrees at 50 watts to compensate for the differences in TCR value. Hopefully someone who is more versed in the differences between the TCR values can chime in, I just fiddle until I get what I like.

The best thing about SS coils is you can use them for both power and TC settings, can't do that with Ni or Ti, those 2 are TC only.

thanks, i just ordered the herakles plus and maybe ill pick up a TFV4 for the fuck of it since its only 21.99

For the price it is a no brainer to get a TFV4 unless your on a limited juice budget.

I am use to having a lock show up next to the ohm reading like on the Stout and other mods that use the joytech chip but the IPV5 doesn't do that. The reason to lock the resistance is because the resistance can change when the coil heats up and for TC to work correctly it needs a steady resistance. My understanding is when you push and hold the + and - buttons you can set the resistance even if your coils are already hot if you already know what the cold coil resistance is. Just as long as your resistance is consistent than you will get consistent results with TC.

5 clicks on the fire button will get you into the menu. Keep clicking the fire button to scroll through until you get to that option then hit the up (or down) button to change.

Yeah, click the fire button 5 times to go into the menu. When in the menu click the fire button once to get into mode then click the up or down button to switch between joule and power mode.

Get to the memory slot you want (up button) hold the down button for a sec and it should switch from "M#" to "ADJ". Then you can set the watts you want. Once there, hit the fire button and that memory slot is set.
. o O (presets!) I'm liking this mod more and more.

The reason you lock resistance while the atty is at room temperature on Yihi chipped mods in TC is because they don't have auto-lock in TC mode. The way TC mods know what temperature the coil is at, is by measuring the raise of resistance of the coil as it heats up in relation to it's room temperature resistance. You only lock it once when it's at room temperature. The only time you re-lock it is if you switch attys or build a new coil/change the coil head.

Different TC wires have a different raise in temperature compared to their raise of resistance. That is what the TCR of each wire denotes.

Cheers,
Steve

What ohm coil are you running? The ohms have to be low enough for any device to fire that high, if it is a 1.5 ohm coil you won't get 200 watts, probably not even 100 watts.
Actually low ohms are the problem. A lot of the new boxes are being built with 25 amp limits, they will only hit 200 watts with builds above .3 ohms., a .1 build would only give you 62.5 watts. For a 25 amp box your resistance X 625 = max watts possible, up to the limit of the box.

so I am still trying to figure out how to lock the resistance on the ipv5.....holding the +- buttons down brings you into the resistance setting where you can adjust to whatever setting. Should I set the crown ni .15 coil at .15 even though it reads .16 or .17 on other mods? And is setting it there the same as locking it in? I don't see a way to get a "lock" symbol like other mods I own. Is this a reason for me to buy an ohm meter so I can know exactly what to set the coil at for actual resistance?

My Yihi chipped mods don't display the locked setting. On my IPV3 Li, I held down the + and - button until the set resistance screen disappeared. I would lock it at what the mod is reading it at (room temperature of course), not what a different mod reads it at. The mod will be reading the change in resistance from what it read at room temperature to the increase resistance as firing to calculate what temperature the coil is at.

Cheers,
Steve

Hey all regarding my earlier question on switching from joules to watts, I was referring to switching in tc mode (joules). I have only had devices that show watts in tc mode and thus have no idea what to set the joules at for proper ramp up time with the 5. I will be using either the .15 ni coil from crown or ss .25 coils, also perhaps will try the herk+ ss coils. Any insight greatly appreciated. :)

Indeed it does come with a manual, however there really isn't much in there as is the case with most mods. Sadly lacking in information, but really can't fault them for not having the joules info, that is something I think users are expected to know, henceforce my inquiry here to all the far more knowledgeable folks than myself.

Aside from the sparse information in the manual, I can absolutely say the 5 is a fantastic mod. I have the 4s and let me tell you, the fit and finish is far above that of the 4s, the functionality is flawless. I am glad I ordered 3 of them for my collection.

You won't be disappointed. What color did you order?

That happened to me yesterday while I was fiddling with watts to find the right combo for the TFV4 with triple coil. I am not sure if I hit a set of buttons to lock the up/down. The fix was to just take a long drag at the watts it was set on and presto, the up/down buttons worked again. I don't see a section for locking the up/down buttons in the owners manual but I was clicking buttons with reckless abandon just effin around.

Trust me, that's the only slight hint of a problem I have had. So far the IPV5 is my favorite mod over the RX200 and Stout. I just got the Octuple coil for my TFV4 and it is hitting like a champ, crazy clouds I can hardly see my keyboard :D

I have been very pleased with the customer service overall. Everything I have ordered from them has arrived super-fast and in great shape. Will def. order more from them.

Bummer your whitey didn't work :( Hopefully your second is pristine and functioning. I have two from them and my housemate also got one and both are firing on all cylinders so fingers crossed for your replacement and my blue one enroute! :)

Yeah, I've never gotten a bad mod in 5 years. It was going to happen sooner or later. I don't fault them for it.

I went to the pioneer4you.com website in hopes of finding a firmware upgrade to my IPV5 because it only goes to 75W. Anyone else have that issue? Suggested corrections?? I contacted the vendor last night but, nothing yet.
I just got mine as well and it wouldn't go past 75w I went to the power/joule option and selected joule, selected SS and then clicked out of it, went back to power/joule and selected power and boom now it goes to 200w

seems like there is a mixed bag with these, some having the issue and others not. What color was yours? I haven't had any issue with my black or silver. Blue will be here on Monday so we will see....and the white one...well if breazy ever ships it to me...others have gotten theirs so I am hoping soon...

Nice to see all you beta testers hard at work. ;) I'm interested in this, really liked the ergos of a D2 I used to have. From the pics I have seen it appears that there is about a 1/2" of wasted space at the top, making it unnecessarily tall. How does it feel in the hand? And a 20j max output, will that limit the power to low ohm coil builds. Thanks

Be real hard to make it shorter and keep it's thinness. Feels great in the hand, feels better than the Reuleaux imo

Did you mean to say 120j (it's 120j, not 20j)? Joules are only used in TC. That is more than enough for TC imo (on my DNA200's I normally use 30-50 watts in TC). Here's a link to the IPV5's specs.

Output Current: 1.0A-45.0A I think this is for wattage mode, which is plenty. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to electricity, but my current (no pun) understanding is that the spec below is a kind of safety feature when using very low ohm builds, but will limit power when perhaps you don't want it to.
  • Joule Output Range: 10~20j

Here are the specs from P4Y's website - I posted the link for you on my above post:

Output Power: 10W-200W
Output Joule: 10J-120J
Standard Resistance:0.15ohm-3.0ohm
Joules Mode Resistance:0.05ohm-1.5ohm
Output Voltage: 1.0V-7.0V
Input Voltage: 6.4V-9.0V
Output Current: 1.0A-45.0A
Input Current: 1.3A-45.0A
Temp. limit Centigrade: 100°C-300°C
Temp. limit Fahrenheit: 212°F-572°F

Here's the link again
http://pioneer4you.com/goods.php?id=107

PS Joules are a measure of power over time. I'm not sure why Yihi chose joules for TC. My guess is because Evolv already had TC and was using watts (thinking they did it to be different). Since the mod doesn't know how long you be firing it. Joules in vaping mods is the amount of joules you select per 1 second which coincidentally is = to watts. What I'm saying is for our purposes, joules and watts are the same thing.

I love the form factor and performance. Have had the button issue a few times when bringing it out of standby mode, fired it and they went back to working normal.

You need to 5 click the ipv5 and go to power mode, and put it to "ADJ"....I was having this issue, i just tinkered it and got it to run at 200WW on anything:)

Hey, y'all! Long time no talk to! Had a discovery today...

I did a stainless steel coil and went into the menu to set the TCR manually. Vaped on it most of the day and, it was awesome. Decided to put another topper on the iPV5 and tried to crank it up to 85W. Stopped at 75W. WTF?!

I went back to page 2 of this thread and found the video where there is a glitch in the software. Sure enough. That's what fixed it. So, if you run into the same situation, you'll have to do the reset just like the problem I had with the first iPV5 I received.

I am not going to go through the exchange like I did last time with Ecigavenue. Awesome folks but, I'm not gonna do that. I'll just keep working with it the way it is.

Hi Red,
Hopefully they come out with an update that will do away with the glitch. I've been using SS 430 for awhile now in TC and it really is great. Glad you're happy with the results you are getting. With SS you can use it in power mode or TC, what's not to love!

Cheers,
Steve
