proud to say its been over a month since my last death stick, but NORMALLY wouldn't an ex smoker cough up all of the residue as the lungs come back to life? if so then I find it really odd that I haven't experienced this, I haven't been able to fully work out to see where my lung capacity stands so the only baseline that I have is that when I did smoke I of course was sucking wind trying to keep any pace.

If it helps any my vape setup is (as of now) subtank mini kit, 80/20 vg/pg @ around 25-35 watts.

I didn't have the mass exodus of left over residue when I switched.
I figured the body's cleaning function broke it down, and some got absorbed, while the rest was minutely dispersed thru coughs and sneezes over time.

I was just sitting here at work and I was like hmmm I don't have that ex former coughing episode, also since I pretty much vape high VG almost exclusively now, is there something to consider with the filmy type residue? not sure if I've experienced this.

As others have said, not necessarily. Depends on how much damage was done, how much has accumulated, and how well your lungs' drainage systems work... ...the thing is, what actually gets hacked up, even for people who hack up a lot, is only a portion of what ultimately comes out. Your lungs are constantly working to clear any fluids or build-up out. It's a process that's constantly taking place with each breath that you take. Smoking inhibits it. Once it starts working like its supposed to, it stands to reason that there should be nothing that has to be expelled by coughing.

When you're coughing stuff up, that's a sign that your lungs aren't able to self-clean properly. With nothing inhibiting that process, anything that's not supposed to be there should naturally be able to make its way out without you forcefully hacking it all up.

I can tell you that I hacked up an abnormal amount of brown mucus and clear fluid, but I was a very heavy smoker and it was normal for me to be hacking up fluid anyway... ...I was at a point where my lung function was so impaired that they couldn't clear themselves anymore. I think physical activity was playing a role in clearance as well. I was putting my lungs to work doing an hour of moderate cardio almost every day. I was also drinking a lot of water. Always had stuff churning up in my chest.

I'd say its about time to put your lungs to the test! Go out for a jog or hop on a bike and see where your limit is! That will tell you for sure where you're at clearance-wise. If you've still got a ways to go, you'll surely know it by the time you're done.

I think it was the vaping that kept it from happing. Sorta washed the lungs. every one that I know that vaped did not have it happen to them.

I hacked up all kinds of garbage.......but my mom quit 3 years ago (no vape, just quit) after smoking for about 55 years and never coughed up anything. I thought that was weird.

When going cold turkey from nicotine, the cilia become active again- nicotine sedates their function. That's when many people hack up stuff, often dark because it contains tar. But as long as the cilia are sedated by nic, occasionally coughing up phlegm helps the lungs clear themselves. It should be mostly clear. Green often means infection.

I have the occasional coughing maybe sneezing sometimes, that would make sense as far as nic keeping the cilia sedated, I guess I was just a bit concerned because I was under the impression that no matter how long you've smoked for you're going to be hacking up for a few weeks-months

I always thought the same thing till my mother told me she never had. I've been quit for over 14 months and still get the coughing up "spooge " spells. Sometimes it just shoots up in the back of my throat and chokes me (though not often), and those coughing spells are usually always followed by the sneezing fits. Strange....

Wonder if yours is more allergy/sinus drainage than anything. Have you been tested for allergies? Or seen an ent?

Nah, I'm not allergic to anything. None of that started till I quit smoking. But I did smoke quite a bit for a very long time.

I've been vaping for over 3 yrs now and I still occasionally hack up a loogy...it's not that creosote looking brown goo anymore though, just clear. Took almost 2 years for me to encounter the clear. In the interest of full disclosure, I do have some radiation damage to my right lung from lymphoma treatments 10 years ago, and my blood pressure meds cause a cough. Regardless, it's far less than when I was smoking.

Are you experiencing any dry mouth or hoarseness beforehand? Sometimes the normal saliva and mucous in there coagulates when your mouth dries out. And then when you get to take in more fluids and/or get some more saliva flow coming through, it comes out as clear, sorta viscous fluid.

Or maybe its just VG that's accumulated in the airways. Who knows?

I'm pretty sure most people feel the need to hack and spit occasionally, though I suppose your unique situation bears consideration.

No dry mouth or hoarseness to speak of, and I vape a low VG liquid almost exclusively (Halo SubZero). Regardless, the loogy exfil's are infrequent (once or twice per day perhaps?), which is far better than when I was smoking. I still feel that any harm from vaping is orders of magnitude less than smoking just based upon how I feel after some considerable time now. I'm convinced I was on the verge of COPD which is what led me to vaping in the first place. One of best decisions I've ever made, imo.

If it makes the OP feel any better; I just had a lung Xray yesterday and was told that I have the lungs of a non smoker. They are beautifully clear! So, whatever the reason for the lack of lugey, I'll take it!

No. This is not true. Nicotine has nothing to do with the function of cilia. Cite your sources or stop writing garbage.

I don't know you, or care frankly, but this is just wrong. Cigarettes have thousands of toxic chemicals in them but nicotine is not the demon.

Nicotine increases ciliary beat frequency by a direct effect on respiratory cilia.
