iStick 40WTC - watts adjustable in temp mode?

So I got home today and there on my desk was a brand new iStick 40WTC. I loaded up a stock Kanger OCC TC coil into a Subtank Nano and started playing with it. So I locked the coil resistance and started trying to find a temp for the liquid that I put in the tank.

One question though - can I adjust the watts while in temp mode? In the manual on page 2, #2 at the bottom of the page it states that the max output wattage in TC mode is 40W. Seeing as how the wattage stays at 40 no matter how low I set the temp, I'm thinking that it does not matter and will not change. No big deal if it doesn't on this mod....I'm just curious since the manual refers to a "Max" wattage but nothing about a "Min" or how to change it.

BTW, this is a good 40W mod so far. Feels like an iStick, buttons rattle like my iStick 30W, but the vape is very nice. Lots of flavor, decent cloud (500 degrees on a .15 coil running 50/50 blend). I only filled the tank up enough to go just a little above the holes in the coil to see how it handles running out of liquid and to see if I get a dry hit.

Nope, in temp mode it's fixed at 40 watts (which only dictates how fast the coil heats up in any event)!

Thanks Amanda....that's what I figured. I just wanted to ask due to what the manual said.....

Nonetheless....the mod works as a TC mod should. I ran it out of liquid and it just quit firing in the same way a regulated mod a dead battery will. The display stays on but nothing happens. So now on to a week or two worth of testing to see if it will continue to work and to see how well these prebuilt coils hold up.

Jim - my 40WTC rattles worse than my 30W actually. But I do have the 100W version arriving on Monday so we shall see what is worse (I don't have the 20W or 50W for comparison though)!

I agree though that the iStick 40WTC is "entry level" but so far I'm very impressed. And like you, I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop regarding reliability. But my 30W has proven itself to me after a few months and so far the 40WTC is on par to do the same. Time will tell I guess!

BTW....I also have the IPV4 and have upgraded the firmware......just haven't played with TC yet. I really bought the 40WTC only to try out TC....and for an inexpensive 40W mod. Besides...it was only $24 shipped!!

Where did you buy it for so cheap?

I ordered mine last weekend from myfreedomsmokes.com when they had the 17% off sale and used some of my points. Since I was always missing out on the Vapor Joes daily deals on them, I had to jump when I spotted the price. They still have them in stock and on sale for $29.99.

Fast shipping as well. I ordered it on Sunday, it was mailed on Monday and was delivered on Wednesday from NC via USPS.

Ah man, I missed that sale by a day. I ordered from China today, lets hope it gets shipped soon.

What do you think? Don't you own this mod?

I'm still waiting for the "big problem" with this little guy.

I call it "entry level" TC and for the price, I've no complaints.
Having to set the temp higher compared to other TC mods is the closest I guess.

I had to check the buttons just now. Mine doesn't rattle much at all, and nothing compared to all the 30s. If you want to hear iStick rattle... pick up a 100. Works great, feels fine for $30, buttons rattle like a child's toy. :p
How is it entry level? I own one and it works as Temp Control is supposed to work, even better then some of the more expensive models.

Yes....I do own this mod and opened it up around 6PM or so last night. Not sure what you're asking about here.....

Because...
- it's only ~$25
- it's only 40watts
- the watts are locked on max in TC (not horrible with only 40)
- the TC curve seems off... have to set it quite high, or trick the mod with a high res
- Ni only, no Ti mode
- built in battery (sorry eVic)
- single built in battery (yay eVic)
- it's an Eleaf iStick (yeah... cheap shot but I have 6, well... now 5 :( )

There are plusses as well for so low a price, and so far no "second shoe".
I'm still saying that given value for cost, it's a no brainer... for an "entry level" TC mod.
I have tried some temp contro mods, But the reason I like iStick is because you just have to raise or decrease the TC. Temp is temp no matter what, I just dont understand why we would have to raise the wattage with TC. I didn't realise iStick worked off the wattage. I thought it just measured the temp.

The wattage merely defines how fast it reaches the temp. The TC still works (although it seems to run low).

The wattage also ramps back up as the temp cools when you draw air across the coil. Hit the fire button and you can see the watts ramp up, back off, and ramp up again to maintain the temp setting.

I'm new to the TC scene (even though I have an ipv4....haven't used it that way yet). I am digging the istick 40wtc......it has replaced my istick 30w as a pocket carry mod already. And here's a big reason why it is an entry level TC mod - it's easy to use and it works.

Serioulsy, drop your atty of choice on the deck in TC mode. When it asks"newcoil?" You say Yes. Adjust you tempo taste and vape away. No options, menus, of choices given. Learn it, love it, live it. It's easy to use and does what it's supposed to do extremely well. Tomorrow is a my ipv4s tc test day.

By the way.....this post brought to you via my post samsung galaxy tab 10.1 tablet that likes to jumble words and preempt what I what to say. So if anything makes little sense then blame the folks behind your 18650s.....then again......

My100w arrived yesterday and I just started vaping on it a few hours ago. So far it is just what I want out of a 100w dual 18650 mod. If battery life works as i think it should then it will be a great knock about all day mod for me.

Putting in my thumbs up for the 40W TC. It's small and discreet, comfortable to hold, easy to adjust, and very user friendly.

And while it may not have a "titanium mode," it does work with titanium or nickel coils. I'm also in the school of thought that it doesn't matter that you can't change the wattage in temp control mode. The mod is throttling on and off the coil to regulate temperature, so if one were to back off on the wattage, it wouldn't "come to temperature" as quickly, and would perhaps have more difficulty evenly regulating said temp.

Just my 2 cents, could be wrong.

Wow....it's only been 2 weeks with this mod and I'm still digging it (not so much the juice at the moment....but that's another story). It keeps putting out the vapes like it should and I have no issue with it.

Although, battery life could be better IMO. Then again, I am used to the bigger dual 18650 mods so I can't complain too much!

I just looked at the box and manual for mine and they both state 2600 mAh.

yeahp... 2600 mAh. I've seen some recent videos where they were testing prototypes of the 40W TC... perhaps those had a little less oomph before the final version came out like... two months ago. That's business for ya... things are changing until the final product comes out.

What is battery life vaping in temp control with the IStick TC. I have one, but haven't used it yet. I am waiting for tc coils until then I will use my other devices.

The TC 40 does have a titanium mode. To get to it you need to switch it off, press and hold the fire + up button for 25 secs and presto... Ti mode. Switch it back on and you will be able to switch between wattage, Ni and Ti modes.
