Japan is taking one of its Shinkansen bullet trains and giving it a redesign to resemble a mech from the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Japanese train operator JR West is heading the project, with Evangelion director Hideaki Anno serving as a supervisor, in order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the popular anime as well as the 40th anniversary of the Sanyo Shinkansen train line.
The "500 Type EVA," as it's now called, will get a purple paint job to match the Evangelion Unit-01 seen in the show, in addition to a new matching interior that will be stocked with memorabilia for riders to buy. Additional events are in the planning stages, but they have yet to be revealed.
