Just Started Building. Help me learn

Hey all!

I hate to be "that" guy but i know this question has been asked but i was not able to find anything that explains what i am looking for... I tried searching. Sorry in advanced if this is a very repetitive post. I have been vaping for a few years now and ted to nerd out on it from time to time. I go through phases. For the questions below, lets assume that i know very little about vaping other then it makes you look cool.

As the title suggests, i am just beginning my journey to building and i am looking for some advice/tips. I will ask 2 questions that should help both myself and others.

1) Other then this forum, and a local B&M, what are your go to resources when it comes to building?

Now my main question/request. (I know some items may seem like a no brainer but please feel free to tell me i need batteries )

2) What items do i need to successfully start building my on rigs? I would like a list of items that span from absolutely needed to nice to haves to I did't know they made gold covered tweezers. etc...
Below is my list of items i can think of so far but i know i am missing many many things.

*Mod
*Batteries
*RDA/RBA/RTA unit
*Wire
*Cotton
*Ohm Reader??

Absolutely needed:
Wire of some kind. 26g kanthal is a good one to start with

Mini screwdrivers - can also be used to wrap coils

Nail clipper to cut wire

Ohm meter

Cotton

An understanding of ohms law

Nice to have:
A coil mandrel (2 of them is better)

Flush wire cutters

Bench vise

Cordless drill and bearing swivels

Kanthal in 24-28g and 36g
Ss316L in 26-30g and 36g

Ceramic tweezers

In response to question 1, best thing to do is experiment with builds. Or ask advice on here, providing your mod, rda, batteries, and what kind of vape you are shooting for.

I could write a wall of text explaining how to build, but the best way is to see not to read, so your best option is youtube.

As for tools, you would need something to wrap around like a rod or a screwdriver, diagonal cutter to cut wire, twizzers, scissors and add whatever else you need as you go along.

There are some coil jigs, but can't recommend any since I don't use them.

Forgot an "absolute need" that @nightshard mentioned - scissors

Even better, in the nice to have column: fly tying scissors in particular. Super sharp and precise.

For your first question, youtube is full of coil-building tutorials. I'd start there.

For your second question, just buy a coilmaster kit and be done with it. That's what i did when i started building.

There's a new coilmaster v3 kit that just came out and it comes with a nice ohm meter, kanthal wire and some cotton.

That said, i never really used my ohm meter. I guess i just got used to building on a mod. That or because my ohm meter cant fire up my coils. Elbow tweezers are a must and are heaven-sent though my ceramic tweezers dont see much use since i build spaced coils.

Nice to have... one of those clapton-making kits reviewed by mike vapes, i think or was it by rip trippers?

To add to @BKTOAD's list:
Batteries: Samsung, LG, or Sony only! Best all around Sony VTC5A. Don't forget a charger
Mod: Hohm Wrecker G2 and/or just about any Squonk box
RDA: really liking the Goon, but anything with a Goon style or Velocity style deck with be easy to build on.
RDTA: Avocado 24
RTA: Boreas or Griffin 25, if you can afford $60 @MannyScoot will be along shortly to recommend the Modfather
Cotton: KGD
Ohmreader: USA Meter
Also get scissors just for cutting cotton nothing else, Friskers are always a good choice.

I find a vise absolutely necessary; it saves me from having to chase the stupid thing all over the counter -- a third hand, which holds the base absolutely immobile till I'm done. None of the "build stands" are as heavy as a good 3" vise, which means they'll move and wiggle -- that 3" vise will not.

Small nail clippers for clipping the wire; drill bits in whatever size you prefer; ohm meter, unless you have a regulated mod that can read the resistance without needing to press the fire button.

I just buy them.... A (3) core 26g Kanthal and 38g ni80 wrap..., (4) coils $10.00 that's $2.50 per coil.....

They are excellent.... Beautiful taste and clouds at 50 watts...

As mentioned before, the Coil Master Kit will get you through most builds, and YouTube, YouTube, and more YouTube LOL (as far as how to build the desired Coil)! A good regulated device will display ohms and i tend to use that more than an ohm reader, which might be a mistake, but I do it anyways :/

It's only a bad idea if you have to press the fire button to see the resistance -- not a big problem with most modern regulated mods, which have multiple buttons (usually you can get the resistance if you press the + or - buttons). It was a problem back a couple yrs ago with 1-button mods -- Provaris, Sigelei Zmax, and maybe a couple others.
