Ok,

I just received my scale, and am attempting to mix by weight instead of volume/drops.

I have noticed a BIG difference in weight versus using drops.

Most of my flavorings are FA in 10ml bottles. I am finding that using my mix calculator there is a huge difference. I am using Juice Calculator (http://diyjuicecalculator.com/).

I have my flavorings set up at 1g per ml. When I put 3 drops in it is coming out at a weight of .06 g.
the Calculator says it should be .15g. There must be something that I am missing here. I don't know if my
values for flavoring are incorrect, or if the drops are set up incorrectly.

I would appreciate any direction here.

TIA

Not all droppers are the same. A glass dropper will produce bigger drops than those needle tip dropper bottles, for example. That's one of the reasons I prefer to mix by weight.

One thing I notice is that one drop from a CAP bottle is heaver than one drop from an FA original bottle and the FA in a BCV bottles are different weights. The recipes I get on line work out but I had to re-do the ones I came up with to get them right. Trust the scale not the drops or syringe markings.

The number of drops per ml can vary greatly, and the Calcs "defaults" are usually off.
The weight will sometimes even be different between different flavors using identical droppers or dropper bottles.
Different flavors/brands use varying amounts of PG, Alcohol, etc., but they are usually close if using the same type dropper.
Warmer temps can make the drops smaller in size due to thinner viscosity IMO.

Scales are the most accurate with 1ml syringes being second.

I only use drops for adding Sweetener or Stevia, usually 1-3 in 15ml.

I have my calculator set....
Flavor= 1g per ml
PG= 1.04g per ml
VG= 1.25g per ml
Nic in vg= 1.25g per ml(I mix @ 1.5mg so it's close enough for me)

* Virtually the same weight values as Squonk suggested. I use them as well.
:wave::wave:That's where I got my values. I guess I'm slacking. I generally post that link. If it wasn't for me finding that thread while searching high and low on the "WWW" before signing up here, I'd most likely still be buying over priced pre-mixed. That thread is one of the main reasons I did join up here. Thanks Botboy141 !!!!:cheers:

Your calculator is probably set to 20 drops per ml which would have your drops vs. weight calculations off quite a bit. Also, as others have mentioned, different droppers yield different drops per ml ... some needle tip droppers require 40 or more drops before reaching 1 ml in volume.

I always use the "drop" method but then I use the same dropper bottles so all are the same. I also change the calculators drops per ml to 33 on each recipe I make. So far it works for me. I use such tiny amounts of flavorings and drops IMHO are easiest. I bought over 100 of the same dropper bottles to rebottle the flavorings in - so yeah my drops are all the same, sorry I forgot to say that. YMMV:mooncat:
