Vaping, the final frontier.

It’s a new industry, a new trend, and a new Wild West. Vaping has become a hotspot for new products, new innovations, and new flavors. Previous to picking up the Kangertech SUBOX Mini, I hadn’t owned a “vaping” device since the first generation “hookah pens” that became the buzz a couple years back. Clearly, I had some catching up to do.

If you’re looking for a more in-depth, part-by-part analysis of the SUBOX Mini, I’d suggest taking a look at the Vaping360.com review. If you’re just looking to jump into vaping and want another newbie’s perspective, then keep reading.

As an actual hookah smoker over the past few years, I’ve always looked at vapers with a sort of jealousy. Their clouds are attractively fluffy and their flavors are delicious (which is why I got into hookah), and once I saw the Public Health England study that put vaping somewhere around being 95% healthier than smoking, I decided to take the plunge, and this Kangertech was my choice.

Recommended by my friendly vaping buddy, Rhett, at the Cinder Room hookah lounge in Carlsbad, California, I decided that the SUBOX Mini was the perfect setup to introduce me to vaping.

As a newbie vaper myself, I had to become educated on everything from mods to tanks and from batteries to atomizers. Most “setups” are a hodgepodge of custom components that are picked by their owners to specific needs. Some vapers want bigger clouds, some want smoother hits. It’s more complicated than you’d expect.

The SUBBOX Mini includes just about everything you need to begin vaping, and while it’s certainly not the best vaping setup in the world, it has to be one of the most well-rounded if you look at all the in-depth reviews. Even though this kit is marketed as a starter kit, the truth is that even the most experienced vapers are encouraging people to pick up the SUBOX Mini because of its versatility, small form factor, and overall excellence.

If you are also new to vaping, or are considering purchasing your first vape mod or e-cigarette, I’d consider checking out some beginner guides such as the one’s on Vaper’s Knoll or Misthub.

On top of the SUBBOX Mini, you’ll also need to purchase a battery (or batteries)and your e-juices. I picked up a Samsung INR 18650-25R battery and 2 different e-juices, the Kilo Dewberry Cream (3mg) and the Lost Art Liquids Space Rocks (3mg).

While this review isn’t about the e-juices, I’d recommend both of those flavors, especially the Dewberry Cream.

The package comes with a USB charger, coils, and tools necessary to utilize the rebuildable coil (alongside instructions for it all).

(Rebuildable coils are more for expect vapers, so I’d suggest using the magical Google if you’re more interested in that, otherwise, stick with the non-rebuildable coils.)

If you’re wondering what the “3mg” means, or what level of nicotine to get with your new vape mod, I’d suggest taking a look at this guide, but keep in mind that this guide doesn’t include 3mg, which is now considered the “entry level” nicotine level. To be truthful, I don’t know anybody who goes above 6mg, so keep that in mind when choosing.

As somebody coming from a hookah background, this setup was really exciting to obtain. No longer would I have to go through the messy process of setting up my hookah at home, no longer would I have to lay down $15-20/day to get a hookah from a hookah shop, and no longer would I have to worry about the most dangerous part of smoking tobacco – the carcinogens and the tar.

I have to say, after using this setup for just a few weeks, I can already see an improvement in my lungs, and quite frankly, I believe the “smoke” you get from a vape is more refreshing and tastier.

Using the SUBOX Mini is quite easy. Setup takes about 5-10 minutes, and everything is covered in the included instruction manual. One thing you’ll notice is that you’re able to change the wattage, which basically controls the temperature of the coil, which will change the level of vapor coming from your device.

E-Cigarette Forum compared this level to “the options on these fancy toasters: bagel or normal bread…”

You’ll learn to find the “sweet spot” for you. If you’re new to vaping, I’d suggest starting around 15-20 watts, and move upwards or downwards, depending on if you believe it’s too harsh, or if you’re not really getting anything. I, personally, leave mine at 30 watts at all time, and have found that most reviewers find this to also be the “sweet spot” for this kit.

I’d always suggest going to your local vape shop or hookah lounge (that has a vape specialist) to help setup and learn more about your setup. Not only will they be able to answer questions and ensure that you’re using your mod correctly, but they will also help guide you to the tastiest e-liquids, and even help you upgrade to a larger mod if and when you’re ready. Not to mention the fact that if something goes wrong, most of these shops will either help you fix the issue. It’s somewhat like buying your car from some guy on Craigslist or from the dealer. You’ll pay a premium at the dealer, but it may be worth it down the line.

Overall, my Kangertech has become a part of my everyday carry arsenal. It gets me the (albeit small) nicotine fix I need without most of the downsides that a tobacco-based delivery system has, and I also get to fill the room with delicious flavors like dewberry or strawberries and cream.

My boss walked into the office the other day and exclaimed, “who lit a candle?”
