Hey all.... I have a question. I’m a nichrome80 user. I DO have a lot of kanthal, but I just think it tastes AWFUL!! Is it something that just needs to grow on me after awhile? Has anyone else changed wire and had to get adjusted to the flavor change? Did it take long? Do I need to maybe do a good preheat on kanthal? Thanks!

I haven't used kanthal for months. Did put a kanthal clapton in rta quite awhile back, didn't last a half hour. I use 316l ss now. Put some ni80 in SMM a few weeks ago and it doesn't work for me anymore either, used to love it. I've found my tastes have changed considerably since I first started vaping.

Yes, needs to be wiped clean with spirits and then torched repeatedly - to taste only less crappy

Me, NiChrome tastes like shit, I hate it. My preferred wire is 317L SS and I do use Kanthal once in a while and it's a pretty neutral taste for me. NiChrome has a real shitty metalic taste.

Also worth mentioning is a lot of it will also depend on quality wire. I use quality wire and not crap Chinese wire.

Totally an individual thing. I don't taste anything but ejuice from kanthal coils, while SS tastes like a bad fork -- y'know, that taste that silverware sometimes gets where it just tastes like metal... yeah, that. And titanium tastes like every tastebud in your mouth has died or gone on vacation -- no taste of anything at all, including the ejuice.

If I taste metal from a kanthal coil, it means it's time to replace it.

I've never used kanthal outside of maybe prebuilt coils from the clearomizers I used to use. When choosing which wire to use starting off with rebuildables I saw that ss316 was compatible with both power and t.c. so went with it. Tastes fine to me and I'm of the mindset if it ain't broke don't fix it. I've used ni80 as a clapton wrap and don't notice any bad taste. Everyone's tastebuds are different though.

Even if everyone said kanthal is great and you think it personally tastes like shit, well then it tastes like shit. I'd try whatever types of wire and decide for yourself, you're the one who's tasting your vape. If something is a flavor that's an 'acquired taste' or a taste that needs to 'grow on you', sounds more or less like a polite way of saying it tastes like ass. lol. I want something that's pleasant to my tastebuds, not something that I have to repeatedly expose myself to until it becomes 'tolerable'.

I used kanthal for years and never had an issue with it, other than a slight off taste . Ni200 used to taste like swamp ass to me, though. Nichrome tasted like almost swamp ass.
SS, however has never given me any taste issues.

Yes
Swamp ass is much harsher and sometimes exceptionally musty.

I buy all my wire from Temco, SS 316L, NI80, and Kanthal and they all are clean tasting to me after a few puffs. I never dry burn.

How do you clean your coils? Do you just wrap new coils when gunky?

I've cleaned a few times wiping with wet swabs but found it's faster to wind a new coil, takes me about a minute to wind a 6 wrap spaced coil and shape it up. And the doggy style is so easy to install the coil and wick I do four at a time and that lasts me 10 days at around 2ml a day juice consumption on my 3.5ml doggy style tanks. It's a fresh new tank every fill and not any harder than cleaning and putting in a new coil on a nautilus
