I'm looking into getting my first rebuildable, but have a question first...

On Amazon, while looking at Kanthal, I noticed different millimeters.
Does this matter? I'm planning to use 28 Gauge, but there are different millimeters.

Thanks! :D

.28g is ok to use but, id get .32g as its a good guage to learn on.
IF you can afford it, id get 32, 28, 26 and at least 100ft of each, will last ya a bit while yer learning and then once ya get the hang of it you could start practicing twisted, claptons, zippers, etc... THEN get some flat kenthal... then the fun begins.. lol

but honestly, .28g is ok..

my crappy image will give you an idea how different wire guage thickness is::

of course... have you researched the ohms law on vaping and wire resistance? battery mah and the such....?
Good site to see a vast array of the above mentioned
http://www.steam-engine.org

Larger numbers in resistance wire mean the size of the wire is actually smaller, so 28g Kanthal is physically larger wire than 32g. Different gauge resistance wire is going to give you different resistances. so a .24g wire will drain more power from your battery, a .28g wire wrapped 9-12 coils will drain more than a 5-7 wrapped coil..

No, I haven't. I wasn't aware that it mattered.

I was just planning to build a standard micro coil using 28 Gauge, wrapping it 10 times or so.

Rip Trippers made a video on that coil.

Wire gauge is just a different way of measuring diameter. US uses gauge, Europe uses mm.

Oh, so Amazon is just covering their bases, basically?
Mentioning both gauge and millimeter for both US and European customers?

European manufacturers make and sell kanthal in millimeters, US ones in AWG, they are not the same.

I mean that both are listed in the product name. See this example.

It says both the gauge and the millimeter in the name...

This is 28g kanthal with a translation of how much is it in mm, but theres no such thing as a 0.32mm kanthal. Theres 0.3 and theres 0.35 etc.
The only one that exists for both is 0.4mm which equals 26g

So they just got the translation wrong? Which wouldn't matter because I'm in the US, so the gauge is important.

What mod and atty are you going to use? This will determine what gauge will work well. Also, amazon and eBay are not good sources to use for most vape gear. Better to deal directly with a known and trusted vendor. No reason to use a third party site.

actually .28 (awg) is 0.321mm wire...

I wouldn't get all caught up in the wire AWG vs mm battle.. Like said above, go hit yer favorite vape shop and talk to them about wires n coils.
that being said, .28 to .32 kenthal is perfect learning wire. I would lean more towards .28, but that's me..
Your local shop should sell it by the foot or premade rolls of 10, 25, 30, 50 or 100ft.. pick up at least 30ft to start off and pay no more than $8 (usd) and that's high priced... if they are selling the wire for more, then walk out cause im sure all their FastTech clones are marked up 200% too.....

Right now I have an iStick 20W, but plan to upgrade to the new 50W. I'm planning yo get the Kayfun V4 by Tobeco as well.

Amazon seems like a good enough place for wire and cotton though...

Many people, including myself, consider 28g to be about the best gauge for Kayfuns. It will perform very well in that device when attached to a 20w or higher power supply.

Alright; I just bought the Kayfun V4 by Tobeco! :D

I'm probably going to go with 28 Gauge Kanthal off of Amazon, because I have gift cards.
I'll be getting Organic Cotton off of there as well; probably cotton pads, but maybe cotton balls.

Nice score on the Kayfun 4. When you get ready to build it let us know if you need help deciding on a good build to start with. I use 28g and cotton in my kayfun and run it around 16-18watts so I'm familiar with what you have to work with. It's the best kayfun setup I've found. You're gonna like it. ;)

Thanks, man! I scooped it up off VapeNW for $19.99! :D

I'm poking around Amazon right now looking for a good deal on organic cotton. Wire is easy to find on there.

I know you have a gift card so I understand shopping amazon, but for future reference I got a big bag of organic cotton balls at Walgreens for $4. It's gonna last me for a long time.

Thanks for the suggestion! I can spare $4 if they have them and use the gift card for the wire and some juice supplies. :D

Did the same thing at RiteAid. If I wanted to spring for Japanese Cotton, yeah, I'd get looking on line, but for $3.99 at RiteAid, I'll scoop that right up.

These seem like a pretty good deal.
That many might be overkill though; I don't know how much of a single cotton ball gets used per wick.

That's three 100 count bags (300 total) for $12 and my single 80 count bag was $4. Depending on shipping, that's a better deal than the drug store stuff. Also the drug store stuff is whitened with hydrogen peroxide and the linked cotton isn't which I kinda like. I still have over half my 80 count bag left and I've had it 6 months. It's a good deal, but it's almost too much. Is there any Japanese cotton pads on there anywhere? Maybe get a smaller quantity of the balls and add some jc to try? Just a thought.

Edit: you can get several wicks from one cotton ball.

I'm looking for supplies for myself and my friend; we both bought the Kayfun V4 today.
So, the more cotton I can get for the best price, the better. That's why I like that bag on Amazon.

They do have some Japanese cotton pads, but they take forever to ship; these.

"Customers also bought" items are ALL vape supplies and all "related items" are beauty products. Funny.
21-31 days shipping huh? Crazy.

There's also these, which are the same thing, but Fulfilled by Amazon (3-5 day shipping).
200 Labo cotton pads for $21.47 shipped or 300 of Organyc cotton balls for $17.15 shipped...

Which do you think is the better deal?
I'm wondering how many wicks can be made from each pad vs each ball.

Well, I just pulled the trigger on the following:
  1. Cotton Labo Japanese Cotton Puffs
  2. Kanthal 28 Gauge Wire
I think that should make for a nice build in my (and my friend's) new Kayfun V4! :D
Maybe now I'll actually be able to taste my juice. :p
Don't get me wrong; I like my Mini Nautilus. It's just not the greatest for flavor is all.

Be careful when buying vape supplies from amazon. I bought some lightning vape kanthal but what was shipped to me was generic non labeled kanthal. I checked my order history and the defaulted vendor was kanthal supply, not Lightning Vapes. The 24g worked decent but the 26g was brittle when fired. I just now reordered but this time through Lightning Vapes LLC.
