Sure I'll bow down.
In flannel even! And yeah, I learned bow shooting on a 70lb draw weight recurve. My uncle then passed me his ambidextrous limbed Bear 60 lb compound bow. Talk about a full world of difference. The difference not so much in the 5lbs difference of breaking "draw" but just a full world of responsiveness, feel.
For those what don't know, the 70 lb recurve requires you pull back 35lbs of pressure "weight" and then you pull back another 35 lbs. My grandfather kept trying to pull the full 70 lbs without taking the pause the "break" offered. That tore his shoulder up real bad too. I figured out how to take the pause from what my uncle told me.
The compound bow only required you pull 30 lbs of pressure weight. Then, you pulled back more but it wasn't under any discernible weight as the compound "gears/pulleys" took over the weight for the shooter. This is why a lot of bow hunters prefer compound bows as it helps to not be required to exhaust yourself holding the full weight back.
A recurve bow can break people. Know my Pap's recurve tried breaking me. I tried as hard to not be broken. Never could hold the full "load", 70 lbs, for a full 30 seconds before firing. Because once you pull it all back then you do need to take the "load" of the full weight required.
