Lavabox DNA200

So, just a little backstory here: Yesterday, I traded my Reuleaux RX200, with batteries, for a barely used Lavabox DNA200. I'm super stoked because I only paid $53 for my Reuleaux, and this Lavabox is a massive upgrade. That being said, this is the first non-18650 mod I've ever had, so I don't really know dick about lipo batteries. What are my options as far as replacement batteries go? Will other lipo batteries besides the one you can buy from Volcano work in this thing? Or should I only stick to the battery made by the manufacturer? Can I use a lipo battery with a higher mah rating than the one that came with it? Thanks!

It really depends on whether a bigger Lipo will fit in the enclosure. As long as it's a 3s lipo, putting out at least 25amps and has the correct connector. I don't see why you can't use a different Lipo. Think of it like 18650's. As long as they both put out 20 amps continuous, it doesn't matter if it's a Samsung or LG.

The main problem is getting a bigger Lipo to fit. I thought I remembered Volcano talking about having an option in the future to get a bigger Lipo but I believe you were going to need an extended case (the case is 2 parts).

Cheers,
Steve

Okay, sweet. Thanks for the tip!

The battery that comes with the new Lavabox is 50amps IIRC which I like compared to the 18650 batteries, on the other hand I don't have a dead mod when it dies. Although, there is a pass through changing system. But that's not ideal for on the go or a daily driver.
I do like that you can change settings to ramp it down once battery life reaches a certain point, pin point it on what you like and it could last a whole day
I look forward to what your thoughts are on it. A buddy of mine loves it and swears by it.

Yeah, I was a little hesitant at first just because of the lack of convenience when it comes to the battery. But so far the battery life is not too bad. I messed around with some settings in escribe and that seemed to helped the battery life out. I do like the fact that I can get a true 200 watts out of this thing, but my battery life would be garbage if I did that, lol. And this thing charges super fast, faster than 18650s, for sure. And you can't argue with the DNA200 chip. It's super accurate and the ramp up time is next to nothing. All in all, I'd say I got a killer deal, considering that the cost of the Reuleaux and the batteries I bought was still $80 less than the retail price of this mod. And I don't have to worry about buying sets of batteries anymore.

@BananaSammiches you got one hell of a steal on that one. That's another thing that was raved about, true wattage and super fast charge time. What wattage do you use for most of the day? He was rocking a TFV4 @ 100watts and it lasted most of the day after some tweaks. Really impressive.

I run it between 90-100 watts on a .15 ohm fused clapton build, so between 3.7-3.9 volts. It usually lasts me for a little over half the day, but I vape a lot so that's probably not a good comparison, lol.

He was saying that he burns through over 120ml of juice a week. That's a lot more than me, so I'm sure that battery would last me all day, haha.

Holy shit, lol. That's a lot of fucking juice. I usually go through 180ml in two weeks. But he's using a tank and I've got an RDA, so my coils probably take a little more oompf to fire then his do. I'm sure if I slapped a tank on this thing I'd get double the battery life.

I believe he drips at home. I'll have to ask him more about it when I go back up there some time. Looking forward to hearing more about it the more you play with it.

I'm waiting to hear something negative about it, little bugs that come out after a few months usage, if any. Wait for a v2 perhaps, if it's going to be one of my last mod purchases. Which I intend it to be.

Congrats on that thing again, bro. Eating a rather large peanut butter and jelly sammich right now

I have a Lavabox. I've had it since they were released. It's been flawless so far. My only minor gripe is the tinted front cover over the screen. I only say that because with my old eyes (lol) I need all the brightness I can get. It's only a minor gripe, it's not bad at all. If I was still in my 20's I wouldn't say that, probably wouldn't have even noticed. The problem is, I'm not anymore and I have to use reading glasses to see small print now . Here's a picture of the DNA200 stable. I really like all of them. As a matter f fact, I haven't used my other mods since getting them. I'm sure you will like yours!

@Wingsfan0310 Which is your favorite of the DNA200's you currently own?

It's a toss up between the VT200 and Lavabox. If I had to pick, I would say the VT200 by the slimmest of margins. Mainly because it a touch slimmer, has the indent where you put your fingers while holding it, and even though it's supposed to be 1300mah (it's really closer to 1100mah), it lasts a bit longer. I really mean it when I say it's a toss up. I use those 2 equally. I think the Lavabox looks a bit nicer, like the rubber grip, etc. I've been asked that question more than once and I still have trouble picking a clear winner. Can't go wrong with either one.

Cheers,
Steve

Edit To further clarify. All the DNA200 mods work the same. It really all comes down to personal preference. It's what's important to you. Could be looks, battery life, maybe small size, how it feels in hand, etc. In the end, I really like the chip, I like tinkering around in Escrbe. It's basically limitless the amount of customization you can do. From being able to add your own TCR's, adding your own curves, making custom screens, etc. I guess you get my point.

That's an awesome collection, man. If I could afford to buy hardware like that, I totally would. The only reason I even have a DNA200 mod is because I didn't pay anywhere close to full price for it, lol.
Update: I've it for a couple of days now, and it's been great. Battery life leaves a little to be desired, but I'm going to try throwing a higher resistance build on it so I can keep my wattage lower and see if that helps. Overall, I'd say my battery life is 50% better than my mech mod. BUT, I can get a true 200 watts out of this thing, and the chip is waaaay more accurate than my RX200 I traded for it. It charges pretty quickly, though, so it's really not too much of an inconvenience. Plus, I kind of like not having to wait for 18650s to charge. I had it charged from 12% to max in slightly over an hour. Not too shabby. I'm also using an RDA with this thing and my go-to build is a .15 ohm dual fused clapton build, and I've heard that using a tank will get you way better battery life. I don't own a tank yet, so if you have any other tips as to how I can maximize the battery life on this thing, they would be greatly appreciated!

You can go into Escribe and reduce the amount of time your screen stays on after a vape. You can also reduce brightness. I did the first thing, but not the second. I figured I didn't need the screen to stay on 60 seconds after a vape. In TC you can also lower your preheat in Escribe. It comes from the factory set to 200 watts. Since your buddy had it before you he may have already did some of those things. I figure every little bit helps.

PS I got those mods for killer deals. It's the only reason I have 3 of them. Since getting them, they are basically all I use. I really like the DNA200 chip!

Cheers,
Steve
