LF high capacity Mesh RSA

New to BF's - I got a couple Profile Mods and a managed to get a Centaurus Quest before @BobsHere bought them all, lol

RSA's -
Profile 1.5
Nitrous
Elder Dragon

Really liking the Profile 1.5 RSA with Clapton mesh coil - I can vape it at 60 watts without burning the shit out of my lips/tongue. But with all that cotton in there, there is no room for juice and it runs dry after 3-4 hits. The air holes are a bit low and I keep pushing juice out of them when squonking.

Nitrous with the RDL tip helps too but running at 40-45 watts for the most part. Running single coil as 2 coils = more heat.

Elder Dragon was what I started with and I do like it for the most part but is also hot.

What I would really like to find is a larger sized mesh RSA that holds 2-3ml of juice so that I can get 6-7 hits on it before having to squonk.

I see some big fat RSA's in the Squonk Porn thread but dont know what they are...

This seems to be a Pulse 22 that holds 7ml?? Is that right? Seems like a lot for an RSA but would be just the kind of thing I'm looking for! 7ml in the well, 10ml in the bottle - good for the day!

1665607292198.png

Is there such a thing as a BF RTA?

Suggestions please - also open to purchasing used gear!

TIA!!

EDIT: I am seeing on other sites that the Pulse 22 only holds 1ml of juice - sure looks like it holds more and not sure why the first place I saw it said 7ml???

Seems like I've seen a BF RDTA but I can't name any. Others probably more helpful with different atty suggestions.
Rayon and a little bottle management will fix your Profile trouble. You also have a Profile RDTA....

Doing better with the squonk issue since you mentioned pulsing the bottle every cpl hits rather than the drenching I was going for. I opened the Profile RDTA to look for a squonk pin - was hoping it would squonk into the tank but no such luck. Haven't built the Revurve v2 either. Been focusing on juice recipes the last cpl days. Did notice someone talking about a BF RDTA so that's why I asked and that Pulse 22 looks great but would like to find a mesh version of that.

And just realized there is a difference between RTA and RDTA - I was using those terms synonymously..

I believe there are squonkable versions of the Flave RTA and the Krma Gen, but neither of them is mesh. Also the tank capacities are small and they are single coil and RDL, so not all that much airflow.

I don't ever squonk heavily enough to leave juice standing in the RDA. I want the squonk action to draw the excess juice back into the bottle so that my RDA doesn't leak on me when I tilt it a little to vape it.

@BobsHere 's suggestion to use rayon is a good one. Also make sure you have thinned the tails so the Profile wicks well.

Pulsing instead of drenching should also help with the heat. I'm not exactly sure why, but I find drenching the wick when squonking causes heat. More than the power setting should be creating.

Sometimes do let juice stand in a well. Then, as you write tilting can be an issue. Been looking more at top based airflow for that reason.

Like a teacher told me this past week. "I'm just such a hot, hot, hot mess." *smh* Woman my age wearing spandex leggings and seeming to be flirting with the "help". Just thought, "that's two too many hots for me" & "lady grow up, quit using trendy catch phrases that were cliche thirty years ago and lose the spandex, something lipstick and pigs."

Profound most know I. Squonking most ultimate, riddles of life it bears masters even cannot it some times fathom. *bows, snores with wisps of vapor rolling from himself the snoring sounding like squonk*

I do have a squonkable RDTA but the tank capacity is small & is single coil & definitely RDL. I can’t remember the name of it right now.

Was looking at the Hellvape Hellheim S30 BF RDTA - WOW! That thing is a beast! Not mesh but dual coil and 12ml tank. Sounds great but way bigger than I'd want. And would prob eat a single 18650 in an hour. Saw a guy vaping it at 120watts and taking long hits. The heat off dual coils at 120 watts has to be like sucking on a torch.

I think I'm getting ahead of myself here - what I get for watching videos and reading about what others are doing.

As a few have said, "too much juice in the well can lead to leaks"... I def don't want that. Prob my biggest dislike is leaking juice... Like being attacked by a toddler after he got hold of a jar of strawberry jam!

Think I'll back off a bit, play with what I have and work on some rayon builds.

Thanks for the replies and insight - sometimes my imagination needs to be reigned in a bit - much appreciated!

I've found that drenching sometimes causes spitting, too, which is so uncomfortable. It takes a little bit of practice to get squonking just right, imo.

Often when squonking, I squonk about every eight to twelve draws from the RDA/RSA (atomizer). Some prefer squonking every draw to consistently have fresh juice. Always bear in mind a wick can hold ~ 1 ml of juice when saturated. A juice well for a squonking atomizer is there in some part to let the juice from the wick "retract" when not being heated. I usually see atomizers having 1-4 ml juice wells. That lets you maybe have an extra ~1.5 to 2 ml in a well plus the 1 ml in the wick.

To coils, wattage and so on:

I like using a single coil with just plain old single strand of wire. Build that to roughly 0.30 to 0.50 oHms.

Wattage on a single cell 18650 for a mechanical mod runs about 28 watts high end on a full charge to around 20 when your battery has around 20% charge left. So, an average is 24 watts.

Do not prefer to use regulated devices. For my luck they have all seemed to go wonky on me. Not an electric engineer so really no desire or capacity to repair a regulated device. Mechanical mods can "break" at times but usually ten minutes or so, a bit of fiddling and you can be back to vaping. There's very little to go wrong.

I guess, what I had in mind was a 3-4ml juice well - but as others mentioned, this has the potential to leak when tipped...

The profile 1.5, with the thick ass cotton, and very small lip, seems like it holds 1ml at best.

I've found that 3-4 good draws will run that cotton dry.

This is what led me to "desire" an RSA like the 1.5 but with a 3-4ml juice well.

Pulsing after every hit or two seems to be working well - I'd lose track of how many draws if it was 8-12 and run it dry so what I'm wanting as a fix, would likely just be a trade for a different problem.

But yeah, it's a matter of me learning to adjust to the device(s) in my hand. This will take longer than I want due to using tanks for the last 12+ years. I'm a bit impatient and tend to want to fix my problem with a new device - "Take a pill" mentality - rather than take the time to learn how to use what I have.

Joe to Pro in 1.5 seconds, lol

You'll get the handle on it. The last "tank" I used was a Smok Tech ARO version 4. Also used to use a "genny" type from Smok Tech. Preference for me made those seem like drawing chrome off a bumper through a straw. Did not seem I could get "enough" vapor.

Mind, not really a cloud chaser. Still it's nice to fill your lungs, exhale at least something. Modest clouds I get and exhale from RDA/RSAs. I'm also not a "stealth" vaper. Why ought I be? I'm an adult. I'm responsible, well generally so. It is my life and if I want to enjoy a bit of nicotine & caffeine, I ought to be able.

In fact the U.S. Constitution ensures I am able to enjoy those substances. How? Well, the Constitution grants you one express right alone. You can enjoy a good healthy shit, at least once daily. Why else do we call it "taking a Constitutional"?

Those substances help me go poo & as such are Constitutionally protected under freedom of religion, or lack of religion as I so choose, whilst taking my Constitutionally protected shit.

Thought of this just a few minutes ago. When I started into RDAs/RSAs, used this atomizer. Might want to look for "Velocity style deck" atomizers. The build decks on those are pretty straight forward, ample spaced. Really no going wrong learning to build using Velocity style decks. Well, if you want to do micro-coils using that may be mistaken. Got away from micro-coils, lack dexterity to fool with them. After that I went on to Goons and NaRDAs.

With mesh, and at least for me, I've found that less is better. don't want strip to be lacking in wick or saturation, but it doesn't have to be as tight inside the coil and most or all reviewers would proclaim.
Using Cotton Bacon Prime I'll thread it much like a reg coil..meaning enough to have a little resistance on the inside of the coil while pulling it through, but not tight. Keeping the cotton fluffy inside the coil instead of dense and hard might help you. Could also try thinning the tails while leaving them long. Both to promote juice flow.

Much of the capacity will have to do with how well, or much, the bottle pulls the juice back in and how much it leaves in the well.

I think this is the issue with the Profile 1.5 RDA - there is no well so all the extra juice gets sucked back in - the only juice there is, is what's in the cotton. The Elder Dragon, my first RDA, has wells so it lasts a little longer.

Depending on the design, like if the rda's juice hole goes up to the wick under the mesh, then it could potentially even suck some back out of the wick.

Funny you should mention this... I was just about to remove some cotton from the bottom middle of this wick becasue it seems that's exactly what's going on. I think I got too much cotton in there and am only getting 1 hit after a full squonk.

Like I know you will :D

LOL... 1666021910363.png

I did remove some cotton but it wasn't like that middle white tab was depressed or anything so I don't think I had too much cotton or it wouldn't have had room to press down. Still only getting 2 hits before it runs dry. It does seem like the squonk bottle is returning to normal faster than it was... It seemed like it was taking a long time to pull the juice back which made me think it was tight against the cotton and drawing the juice out of the cotton - if that makes sense???

I dunno - I guess - like everything else - it doesn't work LIKE I WANT, so therefore it is broken, like me lol

Don't know that it has to press down. May not be a cause, probly isn't. I don't use enough with to press down in my mesh RTA.

You don't press down on the tab to get cotton through?

I used a method shown by @BobsHere - Cotton on the bottom, Rayon on top so I had to press down to get the Rayon on top of the cotton.

I'm also using the Clapton mesh which snags the cotton - perhaps regular mesh doesn't snag like that?

Are you saying you use so little cotton that you dont have to press down on the spring tab? That 'seems' like it wouldn't put enough pressure on the cotton to push it against the mesh...??? Very curious!!

Right. I don't use so much wick that I have to get the spring loaded ceramic to press down in order to get it threaded. I do pretty much just like a reg round coil. Enough to, as I wick it, feel that the wick rubs on the coil, and other parts like the ceramic or other exposed deck parts in there. The wick always winds up touching the mesh everywhere, I don't run into the wick collapsing before it's usual re-do, and no dry hits.

Maybe you could show us a pic or 2 of during your wicking? Like thread it and thin -n trim the tails, then a pic before tucking the tails in?

I will do this next time I wick it. I just rewicked it 2 days ago with Bob's cotton/rayon method. I tore a 6mm wotofo mesh cotton strip in half then used rayon to match the other half so I would end up with 6mm total. Def using more than what you are saying but not more than the wotofo 6mm.. and removed about 1mm of cotton from the bottom.

The cotton bottom half is cut off flush with the block, rayon top half is thinned (tails) and cut off half at angle towards the block and I also cut the edges of the tails off at an angle... So there isn't a lot of tail tucked down to the well.

The dia of laces are usually off for me. Thicker. I caught a sale on these for .3 id coils and bought a few boxes. Have to remove some of it to use it so stuck w/Prime, now I have surplus lol. Same with some other laces I've had. You'll wind up wicking by feel rather than size.
1666027717291.png

Can't comment on what's in the coil sinse can't tell from photo.
But the wick ends look short? Is there plenty fully touching the bottom of the deck? Like, all the way across the tail? I just wonder if its not picking up what it should, or losing a bit of juice retention.

yes, tails are touching bottom - edges are trimmed as per a thread by KingPin showing how to wick this

Screw work - I re built - here are pics - Still having same issue - after squonk, every little bit is sucked back into bottle, nothing left to be wicked!

Thin tails and cut edges at 45 - this might be where I'm going wrong but the problem seems to be that even after squonking, there is no juice in the well to wick

I can see where it looks like the wicks are not touching the bottom of the well, but I asure you, they are...

To repeat - the issue seems to be that even after squonking until juice shows at the bottom vent holes, it sucks EVERY bit of juice back into the bottle - leaving no juice to wick up.

If I drip into it and full it up to the holes, I can get multiple hits until it runs dry - so it's wicking.

But then when I squonk again, it sucks everything back into the bottle and I get 1-2 hits before it runs dry.

And I need to take a break, lol My head is spinning from taking 30 hits in 10 minutes, lol

Be aware, my method is for an OG with mesh. Some fine tuning may be needed for the 1.5 deck, limited experience with that deck. It's bigger.
One big difference is the pin itself. Only 1 hole in the top vs the OG has 3, top and 2 on the sides.
I don't cut the rayon on the sides like that, 45 degree I think you stated....
There is also a big difference between using cotton and rayon. Going to take more rayon under the mesh than cotton.
That pin may be a deal breaker for my method of wicking it.
If it's not soaking the wick and spilling a bit out in the deck will need to reevaluate.
Trial and error. You'll get it.

Happen to find someone that wicks mesh like I do. Albeit that clapton isn't mesh, myself would treat it the same. He doesn't show how he trims it...

...but this one does. 45° in the opposite direction. When I saw your cut it made me wonder if the created bend from going down over the bottom cotton part on the wick has to do with anything.
Note how thick/thin the tails are.

What I would try, and doesn't mean its a fix is looser in the coil, thinned tails angle cut bottom to top, thinned/tucked then can trim some straight across the top if there's a hump right before it goes into the coil...at the coil it only needs to be slightly taller that coil.
When i thinned I'd do each material separately. First the cotton, then the rayon, to get it consistent. I'd start at the very ends of the tails and work my way towards the coil, being careful not to pull strands from the already looser wick inside the coil. And I'd 45 both materials with the same cut.

After all that, Centuarus BF is a firm press, at least mine is. Might depend some on the size of the hole in the 510 pin, but, I'm sure you've squonked it with the tip or cap off to visually get used to how firm and for how long to push. And finally that mod's has a built in valve that should auto open when an atty is attached. So as long as it's squonking good.

All in all, Profile 1.5 might be best used as a dripper. Some don't squonk as well and vice/versa.

I use the cotton under rayon cut flush at the ends of the clamp, simply to give the rayon some support. The total mass of rayon reduces when wet. Fibers don't shrink but it will droop down from mesh.
I cut about half the rayon on the underside and the only thinning is done from the bottom if the sides are not even.
Cut straight across and tuck.

This works like a champ on the OG. Rayon wicks super fast and doesn't gunk.
I regularly go through 100 ml bottle with one rewick. Have ran up to 180 ml of clear juice on one wick.

The 1.5 may be better suited to cotton due to the changes in the pin.
Cotton and rayon are apples and oranges to me. Both wick but not at all the same properties.

Been a very, very long time since I wicked one with cotton. I like the way the guy in the second video does it. That's what I would try if I was going to use cotton, which I'm not, lol. 😉

The mirtazapine made me do it that way and Bob's dog forced me to use rayon!

Did 2 more builds -
Followed the second video and cut a smidge off the top at a 45 like in the video. Ran with that for about 45 minutes or so. I did use cotton bacon and my judgement as to how much. It pulled through much like a regular coil - snug but only slightly moving the coil. Was still having the issue where the squonk sucks all the juice back into the bottle and I get 1 hit before it runs dry and I get a dry hit.

Torn that down and used a wotofo 6mm shoelace thing - did not cut the top like the vid, bc as the guy in the video said - it's not necessary and will wick just fine without cutting the top off. Not tasting so great - not burnt - prob the wotofo china cotton - or perhaps vape tongue since I've vaped about 15ml in the last 5 hours. I haven't tested the squonk action on this. Saturated it and dripped a bit to make sure it was well soaked.

Going to let this thing rest and pick back up tomorrow.

It doesn't suck, lol
LOL, mine does!!! I took the cap off, squonked until it almost overflowed, and it sucked every bit back into the bottle! That was with the Rayon - when I could see the bottom. Doing better with all cotton and no trimming at a 45. I can't even see the bottom now so I can't tell if it's drawing it all back in or not. More cotton - holds more juice? I am getting 4-5 hits now before it runs dry.

Not sure what you got going on there. The only hole is in the top of the pin, how does it pull juice off the deck? Hole needs to be flush to do that....(?) Is it flush? Thought it was higher...
I always pulse a couple times every couple hits, just habit. Soaks the wick, no issues.

yeah, I've been giving a quick squeeze every 2 hits and it's working good enough. I like it saturated - seems to be better flavor.
