Looking for a lil help with my dark horse

I'm new to using a rda and building. I have a dark horse on a fuhattan carbon fiber competition mod running on an efest 3100Mah 3.7v 20a battery. For my second dual coil build I am using a set of 28g twisted wire coils running at 0.17 ohms. It works good. But after just a few hits off of my dark horse my rda gets really really hot and my mod starts to heat up too, prolly cuz therda is so hot. Is that normal or am I doing something wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First that's way too low with a 20 amp battery so the battery is definitely heating up. Second someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think those 3100 mah efests are rated for under 10amp continuous (efest lies about specs). I would either put a much higher resistance build on it or put the mod down until you can get a better battery. Sony Vtc4s are 30 amp continuous. Or if you can stay above .21 Id recommend the samsungs 25rs

Wonderfully stated! You're asking for a flaming ball of trouble! I've had a mod explode in my hand, and it is scary as all hell. When building on an unregulated device you REALLY need to pay attention to the battery's amp limit. I would never build anything below .25 on a 20A battery. Listen to the last comment carefully, and don't use or buy a battery without knowing the amp limit. Always use a 30A or higher battery when building below .3 just to be safe. Unless you think 10 fingers is too many! Good luck-vape safe!

...and take what local stores and the battery wrappers/labels say with a huge grain of salt.

For example, the efest 2500mah "35 amp" battery is actually a 20amp continuous battery. The 35 amp on the label is its pulse rating and should not be used as a guideline when building safely.

And just yesterday I was in a local store and asked what they had for high drain 18650's. The guy tried telling me that the Samsung 25r's were 60 amp continuous and 100 amp pulse, and that he also had some other batteries arriving I the mail later that day which were 40amp continuous. The thing is, no such batteries are actually produced by legitimate battery manufacturers, so anything claiming to have those specs basically has a lie printed on it's label. These companies selling 35-40 amp batteries are buying in bulk from (hopefully) reputable battery manufacturers, then rewrapping those batteries with their own custom labels. All of those batteries are 20amp continuous, at best, regardless of what the label claims. Since 99% of them are coming directly from China, they give no fucks about our product labeling laws or our safety.

The exception to what I just said about everything being a max of 20amp continuous is the Sony VTC5. They were 30amp. They are no longer being produced, and almost everywhere currently selling them are selling fakes with lower specs, rewrapped to fool you into thinking they're the real deal.

Build safely, and have fun.

yeah what they said. build closer to 1.0 with that tiny battery. also it is hard to find real sony batteries so get samsung or lg batteries. the sony and samsung batteries are very plain wrapped because they arent made for vaping these types of batteries are originally from laptops flashlights and powertools. as far as i know there is no batteries being manufactured from scratch that are specifically for vaping. as far as the heat low ohms will heat up fast. make sure you have the airflow wide open and if its heating up take a hit with no power and just let cool air flow through the rda.

So new you are forgetting ohms law asking Darwin to bless you with a face full of vented battery acid and a handful of pain.

Out of curiosity, i found vtc5's. they seem to be a reputable source. still likely a clone/fake?

Make sure your coil is lined up and in the middle of your air vent. I watch a u tube video and found out I was building my dark horse completely wrong and it was heating up. This is aside from your low ohm/battery problem.
