Looking for my first mod setup

Ok so I'm not new to vaping, vaped about a year on some pens then to variable voltage batteries with a few tanks. I know a lot about mods and sub ohm tanks due to the fact I watch YouTube video from a lot of different people. I wanted to get a good box mod and a sub ohm tank. A few weeks ago my plan was to get a sigelei box mod and the Atlantis aspire v2, now Atlantis is coming out with the tritan and I've been looking at getting the IPv4 instead of the sigelei 100 watt plus, but there is issues with both box mods. I was also wondering about the Dna 200 but still no info about that. Let me know your opinions on what I should do

Josh man ...welcome to Vaping Underground bud :)

Picking your first mod set up like what you're looking for is always the hardest thing because you want something that will make you happy and not give you buyer's remorse a few days later...we've all been there, done that, and some of us have had multiple trips threw that vicious cycle including myself because it always seems like the day after you buy something the next big thing drops. Let me give you the single biggest secret in vape shopping....heed this advice and you'll always be much much happier with your vape purchases. Ok, here it is...

....If something came out today don't buy it till next month. If it came out last month and the buzz around the forums is good on it, not nessicarily just the reviews, than it's more than likely a solid buy. :)

The reason for this line of thinking is except in the world of Evolv (DNA chipsets) it seems like devices and what not comes out faster than too much Taco Bell the next morning :) If you buy something within the first few days of it being out it will more than likely have a bug or a flaw in it because it's been rushed to market to be the competition's product to market and you're more than likely to have problems with a device because of it. After something has been out a month and a few different batches have been shipped over from china or if it's a stateside mod maker has had a few returns and notices a trend in the reason why things are coming back and has rectified the situation you've usually got a fairly solid device and are good to go. Look at the history of every major Evolv release and most of the high wattage box mods from china with their DNA style clone boards (and the fact a lot of those clone boards are half crap,) and even Yihi Cigar's had this kind of luck.

If it came out today, someone is going to have an issue with it and have to return it tomorrow...always wait for the second or third run. You mentioned the DNA200...yes...those boards have been released in a select circle but that's just the chipset, mod makers are starting to order them and it will be a bit before we see mods produced on either a small scale or mass produced like a Vaporshark so I would definitely wait on that one for at least 2 months to be safe and let all the bugs be worked out in.

In the meantime you just need to decide what you want out of a device and then go to a brick and mortar (even if you don't buy it there and plan to buy online,) and put a few mods in your hands to see how they feel....nothing on the internet can replace actual tactile touch of a mod. If you don't care about temperature control or limiting I would recommend the Sigelei 150....all the power you'll ever need at a reasonable price and it's a great mod, I couldn't be happier with mine and I got it new for under 80 bucks. If you want temp limiting then I would look at a mod with the Yihi SX-350J chipset or a DNA40....sure there are other mods that have temp limiting and from what I've read and seen they work (sort of,) but if you really want proper temp control those two boards are the only way to go and then decide which one is more suited to your liking and your budget.

I hope this helps a little bit, trust me bud, every time I've broken this rule of thumb I've regretted it. Below I am going to post a link to a couple of other threads here on the forum and an ohm's law calculator and the steam engine tool as well...even if you know all the info in the threads and ohm's law and what not I like to add them for the next new vapor that might come along with the same question as yours and might not be as knowledgeable as you are. Once again I hope this was helpful and if not I am sorry....happy hunting and best of luck :)

I own the Sigelei 100 Plus and the Sigelei 150W since either one came out. I use them daily, switching tops several times during the day. I haven't had any problems. On rare occasions, I'm getting a wrong reading of the coil's resistance, due to the 510 connection being dirty. A Q-Tip with a drop of alcohol on one end to clean, and a dry end to dry (if needed), solves the problem. That's just basic maintenance.
At the moment, I'm unable to give advice on a good mod with temp control, since I'm waiting on my pre-ordered Sigelei 75W.

I 3rd the Sigelei 150W. A ton of headroom in the power department, great price and so far reliable. I've used mine everyday for about 3 weeks. love it! I'm completely ignorant when it comes to temp control devices.

This was really helpful guys, I was always looking towards sigelei devices but the only reason I'm looking toward the IPv4 is because I want to start temp control usage especially with the new Atlantis Tritian coming out. I saw there is a sigelei 150 watt temp control coming out and might wait a month for it to come out and get good reviews. Just wondering what's you opinion on getting a black IPv4 which doesn't have the mirror screen issues

Yet another Sig fanboy here - still rocking my Sig 100 v1 as a daily driver at home, though I've been begrudgingly using an iStick 50 out and about until I get around to picking up a better travel mod to pair my tanks with...Sig 75 is a strong competitor there.

Can't comment on the tank, I've only used Subtanks (okay) and Arctics (good, could be better). There's a thread floating around called Subtank Wars with a lot of good reading on your options in that department...I've hopped off the clearomizer bandwagon for a while, the Subtank and Arctic are good enough for me while I wait for true champions of this tech to emerge, which should be within a couple months. Then we'll be on to the next fad and I'll pick up the new "old" tech on the cheap.

Do you ever experience issues with the button or anything else wrong with the sigelei 150 watt

I understand where you're coming from bud...I dabble with temp control a bit but I use DNA40 devices to do it...from the posts and video's and reviews I've seen on other mods...sure the temp control works on them, but if you're really going to go the temp route than just like batteries and a good charger, you're going to want to go all in and not cheap on it as nickel is much more sensitive to resistance changes than standard resistance wires and if your mod isn't calibrated properly and reading ohm's perfectly it can misread a nickel coil by as little as .02 or .01 and that can drastically change the quality of your vape from fantastic to crap in .02 seconds :) If you're going the temp route I would go for a mod with a Yihi SX-350J chip or a DNA 40 in it right now and get a quality device. The reason I recommended the Sig 150 route is that gives you all the power you'll ever need for any standard resistance applications whether it be dripping or tanks or both...all the while the new DNA and Yihi chipsets come out and are perfected over the next two months and the current high end gear price drops signifigantly so you can get a much better deal on whats out now down the line and have a couple good mods to suite all your needs or the next gen high end devices will have the bugs worked out of them by then and you can get that much more bang for the buck for the same amount of money you would be spending on what is out now..

Does that make sense bud? trying to maximize your vape dollar and happiness and quality all at the same time here...but I can't tell you what to buy...these are just suggestions. I can't make you like anything, you have to get what will make you happy now for you...so if you can't wait than go for it...just make sure you get a quality mod that has a solid chip properly calibrated...nickel's a bitch to build when everything's working right...i'd be pure vaping hell to try and make it work on something that wasn't and not know any better

I experience no issues whatsoever with it...it's got the same basic chip as the IPV 3 but spec'd for segelei and it preforms about the same. The SX-330 chip in general sometimes will fire at a slightly lower voltage than it shows when you are firing super low ohms at super high wattages,,,but this happens on all SX-330 devices, it's not something unique to the Segelei...and if you've ever vaped a true 100 watts or higher you'd know that only a very small percentage of maybe one percent of vapors would be able to tell that and they're just f'n nuts :)

Bottom line, for the price the mod is solid...and to get a little 90's style up in here...."it rocks in keids and two socks." oh yeah, i just went...there ;)

Ok I looked into more of what you talked about, I've decided I'm going to get a sigelei 150 watt mod I just hope I get a good batch because I heard a lot of issues about button problems, and for a starting tank I'm still going to stick with the Atlantis aspire v2 until I feel like building coils. I have had a Vaporshark rDNA and have been loving it. It's only 40 watts though. That is plenty of power for me but you may not feel the same. Right now they have a 15% off discount with the code SHARKWEEK. I also have a Hana that I like but not as much as the rDNA, it doesn't seem to work as well will the ni200 coils and is very finicky. I do know I barely use my non temp control mods anymore. I really have to get around to listing them in the hardware section.

IMHO, the build quality of Sigelei APVs is second to none.

I have the 100 watt version for at home or car trips.

I also have the 30 watt mini for use in public places when I don't want to call attention to myself.

I just mentioned this the other day in another post simular to this one...I have a "rule of thumb" for vape shopping that as long as I've always followed it I've been happy and haven't had problems with any gear I've bought with one exception,,,and with that exception the customer service has been excellent and both times I had an issue with that mod I sent it in and they did the work free under warranty and that was with my Vaporshark DNA 30 when mine had bad solder joint issues and that mod has been fantastic other than that.

Anyways, the rule of thumb is this...if a piece of vape gear came out today wait till next month to buy it if you want to be happy with it. This is especially true with any Evolv chipset release and several Yihi chipsets as well...usually the first run of a mod or a chip is rushed to get to market and the first round of pre orders and buyers are the real "beta testers" to see what the problems are that come back with the returns and what needs to be fixed for the second and third runs and so on. With my 150 I waited a couple months to buy it to make sure I was way past the "bug and issue" stage and it's been nothing but wonderful and I got it at a great price. The one time I broke this rule is I got one of the first Vaporshark rDNA40's because I couldn't wait to get my hands on a temp limiting device and I got one of the first round DNA40 chipsets with issues and I kicked myself in the ass for not waiting. I love my rDNA but if I would have waited like I normally do I would have gotten the better chipset with all the features and the bigger screen :)

Right now I am waiting on the next big Yihi release so the SX mini M class will come down a bit, I really want a mod with a SX-350J chip in it and I have my sights set on that...so far I have heard/read/seen good things about it but I am waiting a bit longer to make sure they're good to go by the time I get around to buying it because they'll be old news and the vape world will be onto the next big thing like I was talking about in my earlier post :)

Congrats, I'm jealous :) I get paid by the job instead of paychecks every week or every other week so the first half the month is just shot to bills, I can't wait till the end of the month when I' get my "vape allowance" back...one of those might find it's way into my mailbox and I'll be vaping DIY liquid for a month like I should be instead of ordering my liquid premade like I have for the last couple months out of laziness and curiousness. I've been DIY'ing pretty much as long as I've been vaping because when I started on 36mg liquid it was very hard to find and if I could find it it was always a very small selection and it was usually cheap juice that was made in the back of a vape shop by just adding more nic into a bottle that had a lower nic level to start with dilluting the flavor and annoying me....now that I've gotten down to such a low nic level I find myself buying more and more premade stuff to taste all these other wonderful flavors that I haven't mastered or thought of yet :) And then there's the laziness factor, I won't deny that for a second, it's so much easier to "click" than mix :)

Enjoy your new mod and congrats again bud :)
