looking for some info!

Hello all, I'm very new here but I have a couple questions I'm trying to get answers for.

I'm looking to find a good vape for my dad, who it trying to switch from traditional cigarettes to a vape, now he just wants something he can pull out and use, not something he has to fiddle with to get to work, so simplicity is a mojor concern.

He is pretty rough with his toys so I was thinking some kind of mod, and he is a relatively heavy smoker, so I was thinking a tank would be good for him. What else do I need to find out to make a good choice for him? And with this info, anyone got a good suggestion?

He doesn't want to get in to all the weird flavors, just "plain cigarette flavor" is what he wants. Anyone got a good suggesstion for juice?

My dad can hardly turn a computer on by himself, let alone use it, so I'm running the middleman.

I actually really want to start making mods as I have a decent grasp of electronics and I really like how personal they can be for the user, it's like a straight shot of creativity! All I have to do is understand how it all works, once that's out of the way I'll be all over it!

I'm sorry for all the stupid questions above, but we all have to start somewhere, and with all the diffrent options out there it's just all the more confusing.

Welcome to the VU.
2nd: there is no one answer that is right for everyone. I am happy with my Nautilus mini with a iStick 20watt,(the 30watt is now available and a better choice)
My girl friend likes the Smoktech RBC tank with stick batteries. If you go this way get several of both the tank and batteries.
I thought I would want a Tobacco flavor juice, when I started, but I found I really like flavors, like fruit and desert.
Local vape shops are nice to get advice and supplies quick, but they will charge you more. Several of the venders on here are a lot cheaper, I've use MyFreedomVape, Rock bottom vape, Heartlandvapes ,Vaporworld and have good dealings with all of them.
I'm sure other members will add more information if you wait a while for them to see your post.

I think most people "think" they want tobacco juice when they start.
I did not like any I tried and it does not compare with a cigarette.
I would get a couple of both for him to try to see what he likes best and his taste will change with time too.

I think the 30W istick is a good beginner mod. Tanks will be a choice of many and really it is just preference.
I would not start anyone on stick batteries if they don't insist on it.

Stick batteries are a good choice for my girl friend, because she has lost 5 of them in the last 6 months. She goes into stores and sets them down and leaves them. If she had lost 5 iStick/nautilus sets, it would add up quickly money wise.

I think the iStick, or even an MVP 20 watt, would be a good starter mod - compact, simple all-in-one device to power a basic tank. I've heard better things about the MVP's durability, but the iStick seems to be the hot new device. Either should be cheap enough that, as long as he doesn't drop it in water or bash it really, really hard it should last a few months.

You're going to get a million different recommendations on tanks, but I find the Nautilus style gives the best tight cigarette-style draw while still good on flavor and clouds, so that's one (of many) places to start. I've only used one to test out the cigarette-flavored juice I've made and gifted to my mother-in-law.

As far as actual good cigarette flavors, I was unable to find any on the open market from juice vendors. I quickly abandoned the quest to find any and found I like fruits a lot better anyway. There are some good recipes here to make cig-flavored juice yourself, but if that's not your forte I'm at a bit of a loss - the "tobacco" flavors I tried were so bad they drove me back to smoking once before I was able to make the vaping thing stick...

I agree with what was said about the devices and tanks.

Liquids in general, I recommend getting at least a few in smallest sizes. It will take a while to find the right juice. In addition, you should have 3-4 different flavors to switch around, in order to avoid the so called "Vapor's tongue", which is that you can't taste your juice anymore. Regarding tobacco flavored liquids, I wasn't much into those myself, until I tried some of http://www.heathersheavenlyvapes.com liquids. They have sample packs available.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I think I'm going to go with the 30 watt istick for him, seems like a lot of people are really happy with them! As for the juice, makes sense now, he'll just have to try some different flavors and see what he likes.

I agreed with RMarcusY, there is no one answer that is right for everyone, but there are some suggestions you take in mind,regular tanks+iStick box would be great for a vape newbie...

and for the ejuice,it's better to choose"tobacoo flaovr" at higher nicotine like 18mg at first..with Higher PG getting more throat hit

Nautilus is good if you can ignore the side effect discussion about the "wick" before...

Vapingzone has a flavoring called sc-real cig super concentrated that you can buy to mix and they have a premade liquid as well they make. Im not going to say its like a cig because really thats just not possible but what I will say its the only tobacco flavor that made me kinda sit back and think "hmm ya I can taste it". Its really hard to describe but it almost has a ashy type flavor but I mean that in a good way not in a lick the ashtray way.

If you mix its worth trying out or buy their premade. I can tell you if I had to go back to day one when I started I would have jumped for joy if I had that to vape. Also what ever you buy for him make it high nic. 24mg because not having enough nic is a leading cause of people to go back to smoking. Thats something you lower over time.

As far as device its really hard to beat a nautilus mini and some of the nice matching sticks aspire sells. That and plenty of heads he can just pop out and throw away is about as trouble free as he will get. If that is to fiddly for him then he just isnt ready to quit yet.

I never had cotton burn to ashes on me. However, I'd rather inhale burnt cotton than fibers of a ceramic wick, that won't come out of your respiratory system.

If your father is "kinda hard on his toys" persay you're going to want to consider something with a metal or plastic tank that is not too expensive in the beginning at least. I still give out old evod tanks (with homeade coils of course) to my friends who are curious about vaping but aren't sure if they're going to commit to the switch.

You might want to consider something like an Aerotank or a Nautilus and buy the metal replacement tank for a starting setup. I think the Aspire Nautilus BVC coils are heaps better than Kanger's little dual coil heads by leaps and bounds. Plus those tanks can be run on stick batteries, have decent capacity and are fairly simple "plug and play" style tanks that are far better than anything I had to start with. And are not a huge financial investment up front.

As for eliquid...if you have a Brick and Mortar store close by you can take your father to they should have samples of juice to try. Alot of B&M's have their own house juice but some also have "name brand" to sample as well. You can get him a couple small bottles there after he tries some and then you can use that as a starting point to go juice shopping online.

I know myself when I started I vaped that awful Dekang "turkish blend" that was supposed to be like a camel and it was horrible but I loved it...then I got wise to this liquid thing and vaped Boba's Bounty and Nicoticket's H1N1 till I branched out and discovered dessert vapes were more my style. But I still enjoy Boba's and H1N1 once in awhile.

It will just take a little time to get him setup. There are so many options now and so much gear that is so much better than there was even just a couple years ago it's plain insanity the choices we have. I am sure you'll find him something he likes in no time

Woo hoo a thread I can contribute too. lol Im a new vaper myself about a month into it. I have a MVP2.0 and a aspire nautilus tank been running this for about week and a half now. So far its been pretty rugged and has good flavor. It hangs out in my oil truck all day and gets bounced around and hits the floor pretty frequently. So I would recommend this setup for a new vaper. I would recommend stepping up the battery to an istick as Im already wanting more vapor and thinking I need more wattage than the 10w the mvp has. Hope this helps you in some way.

For a new vapor no its really not high unless your going strait into a low ohm rebuildable. While the nautilus heads are good 24 shouldnt be to much for someone starting out.

You have to remember ecigs for as good as they are just do not give us as much nic as a smoked cig unless again your doing a low ohm advanced setup. One of the big things also missing from switching from smokes to ejuice is that "kick" smoke gives ya and using a higher nic level starting out will help with that and cravings. I tried gums, patches, dip and everything else and for me it failed because of that.

For some the act of smoking and the feel of it is just as adictive or more than the nic itself and the higher nic level will help with that. Unless you have a heath problem the nic really is not the issue. Its kinda like caffine. Its just the other 4000+ chemicals they add and from burning that ruins all our fun(and lives).

Just a fyi on the vapingzone SC and gournet super concentrated flavorings. They are kinda a great gateway to mixing. They do not require any added flavors and its pretty much a one flavoring solution. I will also say I I almost exclusively vape tobacco's I mix from both lines and like them as well or better than any other tobacco's I have tried. Tobacco flavors are just a pita to find thats good. Island tobacco is my all day vape and has been for going on over a year now. I split time between that and the gourmet line melon.

Nice vid btw 2 weeks is pretty killer for a premade coil head.

I have the istick30w....and man I have to say its kinda like the SUV of the self-contained mods,so many features and little tweeks you can do.you want simple plug n play istick30 or if you want to subohm it has the capability to do that to.im in the Georgia national guard and have quite literally beat the shit out of mine and it keep on a trucking .best of luck

I'm actually thinking of switching up the setup now that I've done some more reserch!(IIt never stops does it)

I'm looking at the sigelei mini 30W with an RDA. after talking with my dad we decided he doesn't need the capacity of a tank, as he's not a big chain smoker, clouds and flavor were a little more important. And to top it off, I can rebuild the dropper a lot easier Than it seems you can a tank.

indeed. I picked up an arctic at my local shop and wow its pretty hardcore, it says it will do 100 watts but it's bullshit. only way to get more than even 50 watts without burned is to really thin the juice down,It's not as good as they said it would be.
