Ok. Probably a bad idea but what about the vanilla and almond type extracts you can buy at the grocery store??

Those worth anything?

Out of curiosity, has anyone extracted vanilla into pg or vg and then used said vanilla solution to extract coffee? Seems like it could have some interesting results (this may be the type of thing that I think is a good idea, but is actually terrible)

I have tried vanilla, orange, mints, cinnamon and menthol crystals..
my issue is, I can't seem to let it steep long enough and vape it all gone..

I like mine thick.. but the alcohol I add thins it a bit.. so I reduce by stove top the alcohol by 2/3 starting point..
the alcohol carries my flavor additives held in a small glass jar.. then second small jar has my tobacco...
i kept the tobby nice and warm, never boiling.. then wrap it up in a heating pad with a towel..

and then slowly reduce the alcohol.. that holds my flavors..
once it is 2/3rds down.. the next step is to bottle that, then the tobby.. i used 10ml bottles..
using a 3rd 10ml bottle I add 1/4 tobby.. a little over 1/4 of my flavoring.. then top it with vg and my vg nic..
it's gone in a day.. yummerzz :)

I tried to do it all at once, and screwed things up.. the tobacco turned too week for me.

Simplest steam distillation method: http://www.care2.com/greenliving/rose-water-how-to-make-your-own.html?page=2
They're using rose petals, but that concept could be extended to other compounds that are volatile at relatively low temperature. The result would be very dilute, but it's using water, which could be easily boiled down. I've done this basic idea with mint leaves and stevia leaves (not for vaping, just for food flavorings), with reasonable results.

Interesting info here on vacuum distillation; check out the setup he's using, too: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/02/dining/02curious.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

ps - distillation is key; boiling stuff in liquid and using the liquid to vape is a bad idea because of the sugars and random detritus

the only bad thing on that, is buying the equipment to do it.. I don't have the funds for all that.
If I did tho.. I'd use it for more than just ejuice :D

Interesting. If/when I get around to trying this, I will probably have some follow-up questions for you.

This does not, and will not work for making flavorings for vaping. Even taking the peel without pith attached will contain too many oils and sugars.

Smoky's advice is spot on regarding coffees, teas, herbs. Fruits cannot be extracted without distillation or chemical extraction in order to remove oils and sugars naturally present. I dont know who this fog person is saying it is possible, but I hardly doubt he is onto anything I didnt test, think of, or try... repeatedly. Ive spent countless days and hours figuring out how to do extractions. Some of those days and hours were exploring ways to make fruit extractions. I gave up on it. I have no plans for buying a distiller or doing chemical extraction.

Heres a little bit of what Hangsen goes thru:
http://www.hkhangsen.com/about-125.html

If you can do that at home I wanna hang out with you and borrow some money... lol.

Citrus fruits can be done with method described here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/823937 You'd want to let a lot of the alcohol evaporate before using it as flavoring. Or search that page for "James Green" to find how you can make your own Grand Marnier (for drinking, not vaping). I am gonna do that one, including some peel from a bergamot orange, like the real stuff uses.
