There are plans to one day send humans to Mars, but a combination of factors could seriously risk their mental health on the journey, a new study has found.
According to New Scientist, the study from the US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine say isolation, radiation and other dangers could interact with each other and be harmful to astronauts on long term space missions.
“Two of the most critical issues are the radiation exposure beyond low Earth orbit and the psychosocial effects of confinement and isolation,” said Carol Scott-Conner at the University of Iowa, chair of the report's committee.
