Universal's upcoming reboot of The Mummy may feature a female monster, should the studio find a suitable fit for the role.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, there are currently two story options laid out for the Alex Kurtzman-directed film. One has been tailored around a story involving a male mummy, while the other features a female in the role.
Casting is expected to take place within the next few months, at which point the character's gender will be decided.
The Mummy is slated to hit theaters on March 24, 2017, and will serve as the first film in Universal's new series of interconnected monster movies. According to recent comments from Kurtzman, the movie will blend genres while retaining a horror feel.
