Muted flavour | SubTank RBA ~ LONG POST

Hello everyone,

I'm fairly new to vaping and I got subtank as my first atomizer paired with joyetech vtc mod.
I was having problems with it since day one, I didn't quite like the OCC coils that came with it so i threw them out after some time and started tinkering with the rba deck. For a week or so I was struggling with dry hits and burning the coil and eventually managed to set everything up perfectly. I did 4 wraps of 26g kanthal and some organic cotton. I was extremely satisfied with it and chainvaped it for 4-5 days, had zero issues with it. Eventually I wore out the cotton and decided to replace it. I messed up the coil a bit and built it again the same with. This time all my problems started coming back - dry hits and burnt taste after a few hits. I managed to stop the burnt hits but the problem now is the flavour - it is muted, I can barely feel any. I have tried everything I could think of or found online, i tried building coil ranging from .4 ohms to 1.2 ohms, i tried using both the 26g kanthal and 24g, I even tried twisted kanthal (not sure how many gauges is it), I tried pancake wicking method, tried putting different amounts of cotton. I tried from wrapping the coil from 3 to 8 wraps, even tried parallel coil and horizontal coil. Absolutely nothing seems to bring back the flavour. I ofcourse tried many different brands of juice, mostly 3mg, tried 40/60, 30/70, 20/80 vg juices - no success.
I thought I might have vaper's tongue or whatever its called, but I tried vaping my "dealer's" setup and I could definitely feel the flavour, so I dont think its that.
Of course I could through out this tank and get a something else, but the thing that bothers me is that I managed to get amazing experience on it and I cant understand why I cannot get it again.
Any advice would be helpful because I'm quite desperate and out of ideas.

The pre built coils usually take a while to get good flavor, not sure how long you gave them. Usually a full tank.

Building coils and having a good result is usually easiest with a dripper just because you have more room to build and you can tweak it since it's not buried in juice in a tank

Maybe others with direct experience with the tanks rba can help further

Well I definitely gave them more than a full tank, and I have the 7ml version of the subtank. Didn't work out well for me.

Tried and true rebuildable dripper may be something to look into, can't go wrong with flavor with those.

I haven't tried the subtank other than testers at a vape shop so not a lot of experience but they seem ok.
My fav is a dripper at home and any tank that takes a triton SS coil when out and about.

I'm sure others that see this thread and have used that tank and more specifically that tanks rba will chime in.

Most of what I see from just about all the tanks are the rba is not as good as the pre built but when your coils are all dead though, a rba would be nice if you can get it to vape ok at least.

Nice tank, but yeah u have a combination of VAPERS tongue and wicking problem I THINK... Some VAPERS love the subtanks don't get me wrong, but I would suggest a 26 g spread out 8 wraps on a 2.5 ID, start around 20 watts

Yeah, on vapers tongue... if you could taste the juice at the vape shop... maybe you just need to change up your juice. Especially if you vape only 1 to 2 different flavors... add a 3rd. If you love fruits, add a dessert. Love desserts? Add a fruit.

Thank you all for your replies.

I tried couple of drippers and they definitely perform better and I plan on getting one soon.
As I said before, the thing that bothers me is that I got to experience the true power of this tank and I really loved it. It was amazing both in terms of flavor and clouds. I would give up on this tank if I never got to experience that. But now I just want to figure out what I'm doing wrong, and I feel that I'm definitely doing something wrong.
I did try several juices, I have couple of different desserts and a fruity flavor.
I will also try 8 wraps of 26g today and let you guys know how is it.
I still doubt that it's vapors tongue, because I could taste different flavors just fine at the vape shop.

Juice in DRIPPERS taste a whole lot different, unless you have one of those SUBOHM RTAS like the Griffin, mtank, etcccc
If you still can't taste the juice it's time to DRIP then learn how to wick a subohm RTAS
